Watch: Chairlift changes direction, causing chaos at resort

A chairlift malfunctioned and began going backward at a high speed, forcing riders to jump before the chair crashed at the terminal.

A chairlift at a South Korean ski resort malfunctioned and began going backward at a high speed, forcing riders to jump to safety before the chair crashed into a pileup of chairs at the terminal.

The incident occurred Friday afternoon at Bears Town Ski Resort in Pocheon, Gyeonggi, as reported by the Korea JoongAng Daily.

For more than a minute, the chairlift was out of control with onlookers yelling to those on the ski lift to detach from their gear and jump. Once on the ground, some needed to duck their heads to avoid getting struck from the succeeding chair.

Instagram user bonocoo captured the mayhem.

After operators managed to stop the chairlift, more than 100 riders were left stranded, some for more than two hours before being rescued, according to Snowbrains.com.

The Pocheon Police is investigating the incident, and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority was said to be checking the condition of all other lifts at the resort.

Watch: Snow reporter photobombed by very clumsy skier

A video ski report from Pennsylvania’s Seven Springs Mountain Resort is piling up views on social media mostly because of the hilarious episode playing out behind the reporter.

A video ski report from Pennsylvania’s Seven Springs Mountain Resort is piling up social media views mostly because of a hilarious episode that plays out behind the reporter.

The accompanying footage shows Abbey Way providing a detailed report about new and continuing snowfall while a skier precariously navigates down an icy stairway in ski boots.

As Way touts 16 inches of snow that fell during the past week, the skier enters the picture trying valiantly not to slip and injure herself – the latter task made possible, thankfully, by a railing that she clutches with both hands while loosing her footing.

“Someone please help that person in the back,” reads one of the hundreds of comments.

More than one follower alluded to this being a staged publicity stunt, and if that’s true it was superbly executed.

But assuming this was, in fact, an unintentional photobombing event involving a novice skier learning how to walk on ice in ski boots, there are many among us who can relate.

See Chloe Kim get an outrageous amount of air on her latest dominant halfpipe win

Chloe Kim is unbelievable.

Snowboarding superstar Chloe Kim is favored to defend her Olympic championship from the 2018 Pyeongchang Games and win back-to-back gold medals in the women’s halfpipe. And her latest performance on Saturday — less than three weeks out from the 2022 Beijing Games’ Opening Ceremony — serves as another reminder of why.

In the four years since Kim won Olympic gold when she was just 17 years old, she took a 22-month break from snowboarding, but when she came back last year, she picked up right where she left off: winning.

And Saturday in the halfpipe final at the Laax Open in Switzerland, now-21-year-old Kim had a stunning performance to win her sixth straight contest since her return to her board. The only snowboarder in the final to earn more than 90 points — which she did on her first run at 90.25 — she dominated.

But in her first of two 1080s on this run, Kim got an outrageous amount of air, and it looked for a second like she could have flown over the rest of the halfpipe. She gets so much air on her first two moves, and it’s unbelievable.

Behind Kim, Japan’s Mitsuki Ono finished second with 89 points, and Spain’s Queralt Castellet was third with 80.

As the International Olympic Committee noted, she hasn’t lost a halfpipe World Cup competition she’s entered since the beginning of 2018. And clearly, she looks ready to defend her Olympic gold medal at the Beijing Games next month.

Alvin Kamara hits the slopes, shows off custom NHL Predators jersey

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara visited Montana for a week of snowboarding and ice hockey, wearing a custom NHL Predators jersey.

Could Alvin Kamara make an appearance at the Winter Olympics? Or maybe the X Games? The NFL’s Renaissance man got a taste of winter sports during a vacation in Montana, hitting the slopes for a few days of snowboarding before trying his hand at ice hockey. While he had some trouble trying more advanced moves, Kamara took to these new pursuits about as well as a unique, world-class athlete might hope to.

He just had to remind himself not to “get too cute” after wiping out on one flashy maneuver. When a fan asked if Sean Payton was cool with Kamara’s offseason adventures, the New Orleans Saints head coach replied “41 cool like Luke,” so that’s quite a green light to receive.

It makes sense for Kamara to look natural out there. One of his best athletic traits is his balance and tremendous core strength, which are perfect for snowboarding. He’d probably be a very gifted surfer if he chose to try it. For now, though, we’ll be happy to enjoy watching him set franchise scoring recovers with the Saints.
