Vikings news roundup: Mattison fined, Darrisaw returns, scouting reports begin

There was quite a bit that happened with the Vikings this week

For a 10-2 team, the Minnesota Vikings have been relatively quiet in terms of both major injuries and major storylines. The only thing they seem to have is the major discussion nationally about one-score wins and the sustainability of the Vikings play so far this season.

Despite the national pundits not believing in the Vikings, there is plenty of optimism surrounding the team and within the local media.

The last four times that the Vikings started 10-2 or better, they made the NFC Championship Game and there is no reason why they can’t do it again.

This week brought a lot of news and the first batch of scouting reports for the 2023 NFL draft cycle. Get yourself caught up heading into gameday on Sunday.

SKOL Search: Who in the 2023 QB class could be the Vikings’ future?

If the Vikings choose to look for the next quarterback, there are a lot of options in this year’s draft class

The Minnesota Vikings are at the very beginning of the Kevin O’Connell era and things are looking bright for the future.

While the Vikings are ascending with a new regime, the rival Green Bay Packers are starting to flounder. After signing Aaron Rodgers to a three-year/$150 million extension this offseason, things are not looking great after seven games.

As we wrote about on Friday morning, the Vikings could potentially set themselves up for the next decade-plus if O’Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah are able to hit on the next franchise quarterback.

There will be a lot of debate if the Vikings could or should take one in this year’s draft, but there are a lot of options that the Vikings could take if they choose to. We identified 12 quarterbacks that could be the next franchise guy for the Minnesota Vikings if they take one in the upcoming draft.

Vikings get rising edge rusher in way too early mock

The edge from West Texas could be heading to the Vikings come April

The Minnesota Vikings are 3-1 and in a position to make a run at a Super Bowl.

Unlike in previous years, the Vikings are winning games that they shouldn’t. Head coach Kevin O’Connell has this team playing with confidence right now and they are finding ways to bring home the victory.

The draft is still months away and is an afterthought at this point, but it is still important to continue to look at the upcoming class and get a sense for what is going on.

The latest mock draft comes to us from PFF’s Mike Renner. Four quarterbacks and four wide receivers went in the first round. The Vikings didn’t go in either direction instead taking rising edge rusher Tyree Wilson from Texas Tech.

Here is what Renner had to say about Wilson.

“The Vikings add another long edge rusher to the fold to keep the heat on opposing quarterbacks. Wilson is a freakishly long 6-foot-6, 275-pound edge rusher who is only scratching the surface of what he can do on the field. He’s notched 27 pressures already through five games this season as he continues to climb up draft boards.”

The Vikings could definitely use an edge rusher to develop and the futures of both Danielle Hunter and Za’Darius Smith are both up in the air.

SKOL Search: quarterbacks shine late night

This past week, quarterbacks ruled the college football world especially in the late night slot

Week two of college football is in the books and it was a wild one.

Things were chaotic across the board as we saw three teams in the top 12 lose on Saturday.

As things were last week, one of the biggest takeaways were the quarterbacks, especially the ones that kicked off after 9pm central time.

Here are five noteworthy performances from Saturday that Vikings fans need to know.

SKOL Search: Anthony Richardson captivates the nation

Welcome back to our SKOL Search series! To kick off the season and 2023 NFL draft coverage, here are the top performances from week one

Welcome to SKOL Search 2023: a series dedicated to who the Minnesota Vikings could draft in the NFL draft.

Throughout the course of last season, we brought you scouting reports, mock drafts and different scenarios under this banner and will continue that this season with an expanded format.

This year, the banner of SKOL Search will cast a much wider net. Every week, there will be a roundup-style breakdown of major prospect performances, scouting reports throughout the season, mock draft roundups and much more.

After week one, the quarterbacks were the ones that stole the show.

SKOL Search: Is Andrew Booth Jr. the steal of the draft?

Booth Jr. is a second-round draft pick with first-round talent.

This pick was great from the get-go.

The Minnesota Vikings went into the draft needing a cornerback and passing on one with both the No. 12 and No. 32 picks—long before the trade down from No. 34 made Booth Jr. feel like a pipe dream. Luckily for the Vikings, there was an opportunity to trade up for the star cornerback from Clemson.

A consensus five-star cornerback ranked as the eighth overall player by Rivals, Booth Jr. came in with a high pedigree and thrived when given an opportunity as a sophomore. He played 979 snaps over his three seasons, per Pro Football Focus, and helped the Tigers defense play at an extremely high level.

All things considered, Booth Jr. is arguably the steal of the draft. He has three main attributes that will get Vikings fans excited.
