The 2021 NBA draft is just more than a month away and two former Auburn stars are waiting to find out where they will be starting their professional careers.

In the latest mock draft by Bleacher Report, both Sharife Cooper and JT are predicted as first-round picks with the former moving up a few spots from the last.

Cooper, who played just 12 games last season as a freshman due to eligibility and injury issues, is slotted at the No. 19 spot and going to the New York Knicks who made the playoffs for the first time since 2013 this past season. Former Auburn point guard Jared Harper was on the Knicks’ roster for a part of this season after making waves in the G League.

As for Thor, the freshman is predicted to go just five spots later with the No. 24 pick to the Houston Rockets who own the pick via the Milwaukee Bucks.

If both Cooper and Thor are selected in the first 32 picks, it will be the first time that two Auburn players have been selected in the first round of a NBA draft in program history.

The draft begins on Thursday, July 29.

LOOK: Sharife Cooper has high school number retired

Former Auburn star Sharife Cooper had his high school jersey retired over the weekend.

With the amount of talent coming out of McEachern High School in Georgia, they might run out of numbers to retire.

That didn’t stop the school from putting former Auburn point guard Sharife Cooper’s jersey up in the rafters.

Cooper followed in the footsteps of former Auburn and current Cleveland Cavaliers forward Isaac Okoro in five-star players to come out of the high school. After one season at Auburn, Cooper is expected to go in the first round of the upcoming NBA draft.

One and done! Sharife Cooper officially declares for NBA draft

Auburn star freshman point guard Sharife Cooper has officially declared for the NBA draft.

Sharife Cooper’s days in an Auburn uniform didn’t last long.

On Friday, the Auburn freshman point guard officially declared for the 2021 NBA draft, foregoing his eligibility.

“This past year has been nothing short of special – one of the best years of my life coming here to Auburn and being embraced by something that’s bigger than me. It’s hard to imagine what it was like when I was in high school when I wasn’t here yet, but I always couldn’t wait to get here. Being here and being embraced by Auburn and the community is something that I’ll live with forever. Through thick and thin, Auburn and my family have had my back, and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. In times like this, I like to reminisce and just thank the people that have been there since the beginning.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank God. Without him, none of this is possible. I’m just so thankful for people like my mother. She’s been there every step of the way and at every game. I can’t remember a game that she’s missed, whether it was watching it or being there. My dad – it’s hard to pinpoint one thing that I could thank him for. Just being there, being him, the person he is, I couldn’t be more thankful for having someone like that in my life. My brother and my sisters – Te’a, Mia, Omar – I couldn’t be more thankful for them. They’re my rock. To the Auburn staff – Coach Pearl, Coach Bowman, Coach Flanigan, Coach Steven Pearl, Coach Davis and the rest of the staff – they’ve helped me tremendously just getting better, getting stronger and becoming a better player and a better version of myself on the court and off the court. To know in the back of your head that Auburn has your back is a feeling that I can’t explain.

“It was a tough decision, a hard decision, but with that being said, I would like to declare for the 2021 NBA Draft and hire an agent. I’m forever grateful to be a part of the Auburn Family. If I had to make the decision a million more times, I’d pick Auburn every time. War Eagle.”

In 12 games for Auburn, Cooper averaged 20.2 points and 8.1 assists per game.

We’re very excited for Sharife,” Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said. “While he may have signed his National Letter of Intent in November of 2019 and only played in 12 games, he was an Auburn Tiger way before that. Players that came before him like Isaac Okoro, Devan Cambridge and Babatunde Akingbola knew full well that Sharife wanted to follow in the footsteps of some of our great point guards.

“His character and his hard work clearly shined through his lone season with us. After missing 72 days of practice, he started his first game against Alabama and put up 26 points and nine assists to help us take the would-be SEC champions down to the wire. He is a once in a generation point guard who has an uncanny ability to score and help others score. I’m proud of him, and he’ll always be an Auburn Tiger.”

Sharife Cooper will spend just one season on the Plains.

Per Adam Zagoria, the Auburn star freshman is expected to enter the 2021 NBA draft after a season with the Tigers in which he missed the first 11 games due to eligibility reasons and last five because of an injury.

Cooper, a five-star recruit in the 2020 class, averaged 20.2 points, 8.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds for Auburn during the 2020-21 season. He is expected to be selected as high as a lottery pick in the upcoming draft.

Hoops Hype has Sharife Cooper as late first-round pick in 2021 NBA Draft

Auburn freshman point guard Sharife Cooper is slated as a late first-round pick in the latest Hoops Hype NBA mock draft.

Sharife Cooper has a difficult decision facing him as the Auburn point guard decides whether to enter the NBA draft or return to the Plains for his sophomore season.

While signs point toward him going the pro route, the idea of having him back along with all the talent returning for the Tigers next season is fun to think about.

The NBA experts at Hoops Hype currently have Cooper down a bit in draft status compare to other analysts as they have the 6-foot-1 guard going in the 23rd spot.

Cooper’s freshman season was interrupted twice as he missed the first 11 games due to eligibility issues and then the final four games of the season due to an ankle injury. In between, he was the leader of the Tigers’ offense by averaging 20.2 points and 8.1 assists per game.

WATCH: Auburn fans chant ‘One More Year!” at Sharife Cooper

Auburn fans let their feelings known on Saturday as they chanted “One More Year!” at star freshman Sharife Cooper.

Auburn fans know who they want running the point guard position next year for the Tigers and they made their feelings known right after the season finale on Saturday.

Following the 78-71 victory over Mississippi State, the crowd in the stands at Auburn Arena starting chanting at star freshman Sharife Cooper.

Mississippi State 34, Auburn 32: Three-point shot attempts for everyone!

Auburn took 23 three-point shot attempts in the first half and trail Mississippi State 34-32 in the season finale.

You, yes YOU, might have shot a three-pointer for Auburn in the first half.

Who knows? It’s quite possible. The Tigers took the phrase “go big or go home” literally during the first 20 minutes of the matchup against Mississippi State, attempting 23 threes and making six of them.

It was, to say the least, interesting to watch. Anyway, here are some first half thoughts as the Tigers trail the Bulldogs.

  • Mike Morgan brought up the movie “Hoosiers” and made one of the more interesting mistakes about the film: the high school was the Hickory Huskers, not Hickory Hoosiers. (Cue shooting stars and “The More You Know” logo.)
  • This team’s inability to close the first half is still frustrating. State finished on an 8-0 run to take the lead. Tigers can’t come out out of the locker room sluggish.
  • I’m so excited to see the jump that J.T. Thor makes in his offensive game leading up to his sophomore season. If he puts it all together, he will be nothing short of a lottery pick.
  • Jaylin Williams just continues to do the dirty work and me a solid player.
  • You know the only reason I would like to see Kentucky win the SEC Tournament? Because you just know John Calipari would then have the nerve to gripe about the Wildcats’ seeding. He just wouldn’t be able to help himself despite having a losing record.
  • Devan Cambridge continues to confuse me with his shooting. He literally has the confidence of Jared Harper but the shooting prowess of … well … not Jared Harper.
  • Dylan Cardwell has been extremely quiet.
  • What else? Yeah, that’s about it. Let’s see if the Tigers can close out the season with a victory.

Bruce Pearl updates status of Sharife Cooper ahead of Saturday’s season finale

Auburn point guard Sharife Cooper is doubtful for Saturday’s season finale against Mississippi State, said head coach Bruce Pearl.

Auburn takes the floor for the last time in the 2020-21 season on Saturday as the Tigers host Mississippi State in a rescheduled game from a few weeks ago.

Tigers fans hoping to see star point guard Sharife Cooper one last time if he opts to go pro following the season might be disappointed.

“I doubt it,” Bruce Pearl said of if Cooper will play, per OANow’s Jordan Hill. “He worked out yesterday. He went through some play-call review … He just didn’t look like he was able to push off as much as he would need to.”

Cooper has missed the last three games after injuring his ankle in practice the Sunday prior to the matchup against Florida. With his NBA draft stock continuing to rise, it is likely that he will decide to become the second one-and-done in as many years for the Tigers following Isaac Okoro.

In 12 games this season, Cooper averaged 20.2 points, 8.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Everything Bruce Pearl said after Auburn’s loss to Alabama

Auburn cut it to five points in the second half but couldn’t get any closer in a loss to rival Alabama.

[jwplayer idZ6VNXL]

Opening Statement…

“We shaved 24 points off the 94 that they got in Auburn Arena. It was our only chance. I thought our kids really competed, played hard, won the battle of the boards. Obviously for the game, if you look at Alabama’s shooting percentages, we gave ourselves a chance to win. But offensively we’ve got some limitations. We weren’t able to make some shots that we made at home against Tennessee. We turned the ball over way too many times. We turned it over 23 times here. We only turned it over 12 times against Tennessee. Obviously, that was the difference in the game.”

On the cause of the turnovers…

“Alabama was much more aggressive. They trapped our ball screens and made it difficult for us to throw out. Then when we did get it down in there, at times, advantage/disadvantage at the post, we turned it over inside. Our point guards, between Allen (Flanigan) and Jamal (Johnson), partly because of the way Alabama defended, had nine turnovers. Our inside guys, on some of those roll downs, we didn’t finish it. Dylan Cardwell for example, had a couple of great dunks, a couple of great catches, but he also had a couple of turnovers on those throw downs. Some of them weren’t forced. It was probably the difference, offensively, between us scoring the points we scored. Alabama is a really good defensive team. One-on-one they can guard it. They’re the best one-on-one defensive team in the league. They can guard their yard. We had a step up defensively tonight, we did, but we were without our best offensive player in Sharife (Cooper) and it was hard to score.”

On cutting Alabama’s lead to five later in the game…

“First of all, we are not happy with the loss. We’re not happy we’re getting swept. We’re not happy we didn’t take advantage against our rival. We’re not happy. Our guys battled. Again, to shave 24 (points) off of that, I told them it was an unbelievable effort. Part of our offensive problem was our roster and part of it was Alabama is a great defensive team. They forced us into a lot of looks. ‘Look how open he is.’ We just couldn’t get it to him, and then if we did get it to him, I’m not sure what he would’ve done. Would he have caught it? We played really hard and we had a really good defensive game plan, but you’ve got to make plays offensively. Individually, Jamal Johnson had a little bit of a run. Devan (Cambridge) made three 3s. Jaylin Williams was very productive tonight. Trying to get it to him more, need to get it to him more. We didn’t have enough offense to step up, and got no offense off our bench.”
