Former Boston Celtics big man Shaquille O’Neal on being inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame

“I am extremely honored to be inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame. Representing the United States was such an honor,” said O’Neal of his induction.

Few fans of the Boston Celtics since the time iconic big man Shaquille O’Neal played on the team do not know the LSU alumnus is in the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.

But that is not the only Hall of Fame Shaq has been inducted into. His play internationally was enough to get him the nod into the FIBA Hall of Fame as well.

“I am extremely honored to be inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame. Representing the United States was such an honor,” said O’Neal of his induction.

“Being on the winning World Cup title team with the Dream Team II in 1994 and winning the Olympic gold medal in 1996 were two of the biggest achievements of my career.”

Take a look at the video embedded below to see the Big Aristotle in action in the international play that got him into yet another Hall of Fame.

Former Celtic Shaquille O’Neal’s 1994 FIBA World Cup highlights

Long before he would join the Boston Celtics in search of a ring as a backup big man in the twilight of his Hall of Fame career, NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal would represent the United States at the 1994 FIBA World Cup.

Long before he joined the Boston Celtics in search of a ring as a backup big man in the twilight of his Hall of Fame career, NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal represented the United States at the 1994 FIBA World Cup. The svelte and young Shaq dominated international play.

The future Celtics center was a force to be reckoned with in FIBA play that offseason, O’Neal played well enough to add to an already-impressive resume that made him a shoo-in for the FIBA (as opposed to Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame of Springfield, Massachusetts) Hall of Fame that is located in Alcobendas, Madrid, Spain.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to see his highlights playing for the US National Team in FIBA World Cup competition in 1994, courtesy of FIBA’s YouTube Channel.

Kenny Smith decked Shaq into a Christmas tree on the NBA on TNT set and fans loved it

Kenny Smith got Shaq good here.

It takes a lot to push around Shaquille O’Neal and his seven-foot frame, but Kenny Smith did just that and then some on the set of NBA on TNT.

On Tuesday during the broadcast, Smith and Shaq were in the middle of a segment when suddenly, the pair got up from the desk and ran towards the back of the set. Hilariously, Smith then checked Shaq into the giant Christmas tree at the side of the set as they were running, with the former Los Angeles Laker falling right through with only his feet sticking out.

The other two TNT cohosts, Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson Jr., had to then come fish Shaq out of the Christmas tree as the segment truly went off the rails in this hilarious moment.

That takes some incredible skill there from Smith to toss Shaq right into the tree like that. Even better, this isn’t the first time Smith got to Shaq, as years ago, the same thing happened between the two! Except back in 2014, the Christmas tree was much smaller and didn’t do nearly enough of a good job of breaking Shaq’s fall like this time around.

One day, Shaq will get revenge on Smith for this double Christmas tree tumble and it will be sweet. NBA fans, however, could not contain their jokes at Shaq’s expense after the hilarious affair.

Shaq says he ‘should have called’ Kobe Bryant before he died in 2020

Shaquille O’Neal talked about his regrets about his relationship with late Lakers great Kobe Bryant in an interview with People magazine.

Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant made up one of the greatest — and most  controversial — superstar duos in NBA history back in the day.

Both were brought to the Los Angeles Lakers by then-executive Jerry West in the summer of 1996, and over the next eight years, they experienced tremendous success, when they weren’t seemingly at each other throats.

In reality, the animosity between the two wasn’t as bad as it was portrayed, and fans and observers often remember them in terms of what they didn’t accomplish instead of what they did get done. But O’Neal and Bryant were almost as successful as any other duo. They led the Lakers to world championships in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Their on-the-court relationship ended when O’Neal was traded to the Miami Heat in 2004. Although he initially denigrated Bryant publicly every chance he had, he eventually mended fences and formed a real relationship with the superstar guard.

The legendary big man was especially devastated when Bryant died in a tragic helicopter crash in January 2020, and he recently told People magazine that he wish he had done more to cultivate a relationship with the Black Mamba.

Via People:

“You put off (getting in touch),” O’Neal, 50, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, on newsstands this Friday. “I’ll never get to see Kobe again, in real life, forever. And I just should have called. He should have called. We both should have called. But he’s working, I’m working, so it’s ‘I’ll see you when I see you.'”

Regardless of whatever their problems with each other may have been, O’Neal and Bryant should be remembered as a devastating superstar duo, and not as one that supposedly left championships on the table when they split in 2004.

We really hope Shaq’s new theory about multiple moons is a joke

C’mon. Really?

We’ve seen Shaquille O’Neal come up with some outlandish theories before.

There was that time he said on Inside the NBA that you could just stop and get $20 worth of gas instead of filling up your tank. Or his takes on how close the moon is to Earth that had his colleagues floored.

The latest take also has to do with the moon: He was driving and it was on his left. Then, the moon was behind him.

Therefore, according to Shaq … there’s more than one moon.

He has to be joking, right? It makes for good television when he says stuff like this:

Wow. Speechless!

Watch: Trailer for upcoming HBO documentary on Shaquille O’Neal

A documentary on Shaquille O’Neal’s incredible life on and off the court will premiere on HBO next week, and fans can now watch a trailer.

The Los Angeles Lakers have had several dominant big men throughout their history, and their lineage of such players is a huge part of their championship tradition.

But the most dominant one in team history was Shaquille O’Neal.

For eight seasons with them, he put fear into the hearts and minds of  opponents, and once Kobe Bryant matured into a superstar, the Lakers reached the NBA Finals four times in five seasons, winning three straight championships.

Off the court, O’Neal has been as big a personality as any with his humor, braggadocio and countless endorsements and TV appearances.

Later this month, HBO will air a documentary about him, and the network just released a trailer.

This documentary will come on the heels of some other excellent ones that have recently been released, such as “The Last Dance,” “They Call Me Magic” and “Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers.”

For a trip down memory lane to a more glorious period in team history, not to mention a respite from the team’s recent struggles, fans will want to catch O’Neal’s documentary when it premiers on Nov. 23.

Boston Celtics place 17 alumni on the ‘Bill Russell Scale’

Yahoo Sports’ Ben Rohrbach named a metric designed specifically to measure Russell’s sort of greatness.

The greatest winner of all time, Boston Celtics Hall of Fame big man Bill Russell, had such a profound impact on the sport of basketball that Yahoo Sports’ Ben Rohrbach named a metric designed specifically to measure Russell’s sort of greatness.

Updating it for the second straight year since its creation in 2021, Rohrbach recently released the 2022 version of what he has dubbed the predictably-titled “Bill Russell Scale” to help us take stock of how greats across eras are currently stacking up against one another. “Russell’s accomplishments also do not fit neatly into a statistical box,” writes Rohrbach. “He was not an all-time great scorer, and PER fails to properly capture the impact he clearly had.”

“This is why setting him as the gold standard makes so much sense,” adds the Yahoo analyst — and with that, let’s see where Celtics alumni stack up in 2022.

Boston Celtics big man alum Shaq’s three NBA regrets

Shaq does not have too many regrets when it comes to his legacy on the court, but he does have a handful worth looking at.

Boston Celtics Hall of Fame big man alumnus Shaquille O’Neal does not have too many regrets when it comes to his legacy on the court, but he does have a handful worth looking at. Widely regarded as one of the best centers to ever play the game, the Celtics short-timer might have pushed his already-impressive resume even further towards a top argument in the greatest player of all time debates.

The former Boston big broke down his thoughts about potential NBA career regrets in an interview with the host of the eponymous “In Depth with Graham Bensinger” show, and while The Big Aristotle does have a few, they are pretty understandable given what Shaq was able to accomplish in the NBA.

Take a look at the short embedded below to hear what they are.

Celtics alum Shaquille O’Neal tells how he spent a million dollars in just one day

The Big Aristotle learned an important lesson about NBA finances in a hurry as a result.

Financial literacy is an issue for most young people headed out into the wide world from under the auspices of their parent or guardians for the first time, but when those young people are signing checks for millions with endorsement deals coming with them on a similar scale, the amount of money one can burn in a hurry is quite staggering.

Boston Celtics big man alum Shaquille O’Neal knows as well as anyone. Despite having developed the sort of business acumen to have averted disaster, the rising star could have seen his personal finances on the rocks.

Talking with the eponymous host of the “In Depth with Graham Bensinger” show, O’Neal revealed how he burned through a coll million in just one day — and how it ended up teaching him a valuable lesson.
