Shannon Sharpe is not tolerating slander of Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa

If you stacked up all of the quarterbacks in the AFC East, where would Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Tua Tagovailoa stack up for you? Odds are, despite the fact that he hasn’t played a down in the NFL, Tagovailoa would sit high on most everyone’s list of rankings — except, of course, for NBC Sports’ Chris Simms.

Simms recently made waves with an assertion that Tua is less talented than new New England Patriots starter Jarrett Stidham — after ranking Tagovailoa as the 40th quarterback in the NFL entering this 2020 season.

“(Tua) is a creation of Alabama,” said Simms. “You don’t think Jarrett Stidham or like Justin Herbert would have set the world on fire if they got to play with four first-round receivers and two first-round tackles?”

Worry not, Dolphins fans! Hall of Fame tight end and Fox Sports analyst Shannon Sharpe will not stand for such slander — which is why he called it “ridiculous” to rank Stidham ahead of Tua.

“The system that you see at Alabama? Tua created. They were run the football, play defense. Now all of a sudden they throw the football and they don’t play defense nearly as well,” Sharpe said with a laugh.

“Come on Skip, we gotta stop this now. Tua is as good a prospect coming out — his ability to throw the ball, his anticipatory skills, his accuracy is second to none. Great touch, great leadership. And to say ‘oh, it’s because of —’ No! (Alabama) has had great athletes before. But they didn’t throw the ball like this with Julio (Jones). They didn’t throw the ball like this with Amari Cooper. With Calvin Ridley. They’ve had top-flight receivers. Tua created the system.”

Sharpe offers some good points regarding the lineage and history of the Tide’s offense — which entered new levels of passing efficiency under the direction of Tagovailoa. If we are going to be hesitant for ranking Tua Tagovailoa without any NFL reps to sample, that’s fine. But the assertion that he’s just a product of his system isn’t going to fly for many — Shannon Sharpe included.

Shannon Sharpe reflects on phone call with Drew Brees

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees reached out to FS1’s Shannon Sharpe after drawing criticism for speaking out against peaceful protests.

[jwplayer vYKNT1P3-ThvAeFxT]

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees went through a whirlwind of attention last week after speaking out against peaceful protests during the national anthem before NFL games, with retired Super Bowl champion and Fox Sports 1 host Shannon Sharpe among the loudest voices condemning Brees before he issued a public apology and backtracked on his stance.

Sharpe was an outspoken critic of Brees’ first remarks, using his platform on Fox Sports 1 to lambaste Brees for missing the point of protests during the national anthem while also, in a hotter take, calling for his retirement.

It left an impression on Brees, who reached out days later to speak with Sharpe over a phone call. The pair were able to talk things out in a lengthy conversation, which Sharpe described in another television spot.

“I said ‘Drew, for one second we didn’t want you to be Drew Brees, we wanted you to be one of us. We wanted you to ask yourself what if that was your brother [killed in police custody], your uncle, your father,'” Sharpe said during a Monday appearance on FS1. “What hurt the most is that it came from you. No white quarterback in the history of the NFL has had black support like you.”

Sharpe elaborated on his criticism of Brees’ initial stance, which you can find where we’ve embedded it below or by following this link. But the Saints’ face of the franchise changed his perspective after days of dialogue with his teammates, and has remained steadfast even when called out by President Donald Trump.

It’s been one of the more surprising storylines of the 2020 Saints offseason, but the capacity for growth Brees has shown — and the support his actions have earned from the rest of the locker room — speak volumes. These galvanizing moments could pay off when the Saints run into more adversity once the season starts.

Shannon Sharpe: Tom Brady to Giants doesn’t make any sense

Shannon Sharpe thinks the Tom Brady to New York Giants rumors are ridiculous, make no sense and should come to an end.

For reasons that make sense to few, rumors surrounding quarterback Tom Brady potentially joining the New York Giants have persisted at the 2020 NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

In fact, several executives, coaches and scouts have even suggested that the Giants could very legitimately turn out to be a potential suitor for Brady if he and the New England Patriots can not get a contract done.

Why? Probably because of Joe Judge’s presence in East Rutherford. After all, nothing else about these rumors seem logical. And you can now add Shannon Sharpe to the list of people who believe it’s all lunacy.

“It doesn’t make any sense, to me, because — look, they have OK weapons,” Sharpe said Thursday on FS1;s Undisputed. “I like (Darius) Slayton. They have Golden Tate, they have Evan Engram, Sterling Shepard, but their offensive line is terrible. He got beat up last year. The one thing I’m gonna want — I want weapons, but I need some protection so I can throw the ball to those weapons. That makes no sense to me.

“I just don’t see it. ‘Oh, well Joe Judge is there.’ How much talking to do you think Tom Brady did with Joe Judge, who was a receivers coach and at one point in time I think he was special teams coordinator. C’mon, man. Stop this. . . I don’t see the Giants doing it. They just took a quarterback with the sixth pick in the draft. They got rid of the guy that won them two Super Bowls. Well, he retired, but the writing was on the wall. He didn’t want to be a backup. So I don’t see this happening. It’s pie in the sky.”

It’s not even pie in the sky. It’s just people saying things for the sake of saying them. Right?

The fact that the Brady to Giants rumors simply won’t die suggests that at the very least, Brady’s camp is using New York as potential leverage. Of course, there could be some additional fire to the smoke, however unlikely and ridiculous that seems.

The bottom line? While the speculation is fun, there’s next to no chance Brady actually signs with the Giants this offseason.

Shannon Sharpe gives his take on Broncos QB Drew Lock

“It looks like they found their quarterback in Drew Lock,” Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe said of the Broncos.

Shannon Sharpe has never been shy when it comes to sharing his opinions.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end was an entertainer during his playing days and he had one of the best mic’d up moments in NFL history. Sharpe is still an entertainer today — he co-hosts a sports talk show with Skip Bayless on FS1.

In 2018, he said offensive tackle Garett Bolles was going to get Case Keenum injured. In 2016, he said offensive lineman Ty Sambrailo was going to get Trevor Siemian hurt. Clearly, Sharpe tells it like he see sit.

When it comes to Broncos quarterback Drew Lock, Sharpe has only good things to say.

“It looks like they found their quarterback in Drew Lock, he played unbelievable coming down the stretch,” Sharpe said during an interview with the team’s official website earlier this month. “I like his moxie, I like his poise. You can tell he’s a leader — you can tell guys like following him, you can tell guys like being around him.

“And that’s part of the battle because you have to win the locker room over. You have to convince those guys every single day and when you take the field on Sunday, ‘I’m the best chance for us to win this ball game.’ And it seems like he’s done a great job of doing that.”

That’s a pretty good endorsement from Sharpe, who isn’t afraid to criticize players when he feels it’s deserved. Lock went 4-1 as a starter last season, completing 64.1 percent of his passes for 1,020 yards with seven touchdown passes against three interceptions.

Lock look to build on those numbers as a full-time starter in 2020.

Jamie Foxx reveals his latest hilarious sports impression: Shannon Sharpe

“Skip Skip Skip Skip SKIP!”

Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx has done some all-time great sports impressions.

There was his Stephen A. Smith (although he called himself Cleveland A. Smith for the movie All-Star Weekend) that he actually took to the set of ESPN’s First Take. There was his LeBron James, in which he strutted around the stage of Jimmy Kimmel Live with a near-perfect facial expression. And the Doc Rivers take on The Tonight Show went extremely viral.

Now, let’s add another one to the list: he did a pretty perfect Shannon Sharpe yelling at Skip Bayless on Undisputed. Sure, it’s mostly him saying “Skip … Skip … Skip.” But it’s still good:

Broncos legend Shannon Sharpe snubbed from NFL 100 All-Time Team

Former Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe was snubbed from the NFL 100 All-Time Team on Friday. He won three Super Bowls during his career.

Denver Broncos legend Shannon Sharpe was not among the five tight ends named to the NFL 100 All-Time Team on Friday evening. Instead, the league selected Mike Ditka, Tony Gonzalez, Rob Gronkowski, John Mackey and Kellen Winslow.

Sharpe isn’t the first former Bronco to get snubbed. Cornerback Champ Bailey, safety Brian Dawkins, defensive lineman DeMarcus Ware, linebacker Von Miller and running back Terrell Davis were all nominated but did not make the cut. NFL Network is yet to reveal which wide receivers and quarterbacks made the all-time team.

If former quarterback John Elway does not make the list, there’s a chance that the Broncos won’t have any representatives on the all-time team. That would be surprising given that Denver has made it to eight Super Bowls since 1970.

Sharpe won three Super Bowls during his career, two in Denver and one with the Ravens. The eight-time Pro Bowler and four-time first-team All-Pro is a member of the NFL’s 1990s All-Decade Team and the Broncos’ Ring of Fame. Sharpe ranks third in receiving yards (8,439) and third in receiving touchdowns (55) on Denver’s all-time list. He was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

Ditka and Winslow were questionable selections over Sharpe.

Ditka made five Pro Bowls and won one Super Bowl as a player, totaling 5,812 receiving yards and catching 43 touchdowns in his career. Winslow was also a five-time Pro Bowler but did not win a Super Bowl. He totaled 6,741 receiving yards and 45 touchdowns in his career.

Sharpe’s 10,060 career receiving yards rank fourth in NFL history among tight ends. His 62 receiving touchdowns represent 19 more than Ditka’s total and 17 more than Winslow’s total.

Sharpe is ranked No. 3 on Broncos Wire’s list of the 100 greatest players in franchise history. Sharpe now stars alongside Skip Bayless on FS1 talk show Skip and Shannon: Undisputed, which airs on weekday mornings.

The complete team of 100 players and 10 coaches will be revealed on NFL Network on Friday, Dec. 27 in celebration of the league’s 100 years.

Zach Ertz becomes the 2nd-fastest TE to reach 500 receptions in NFL history

Zach Ertz becomes the 2nd-fastest TE to reach 500 receptions in NFL history

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered another loss on Sunday but tight end Zach Ertz made NFL history on the day and cemented his status in team history. Ertz broke the receptions record for tight ends in a season last year and on Sunday, he became the second-fastest tight end in NFL history to reach 500 career receptions.

Only Kellen Winslow did it faster.

On the season, Ertz has 55 catches for 621 yards and two touchdowns. On Sunday against Seattle, Ertz had 12 catches for 91 yards and a touchdown.
