How to watch Texas A&M vs. Oregon in Game 2 of the College Station Super Regional

Texas A&M’s will attempt to earn a bid to the College World Series for the second time in three seasons

Texas A&M’s (48-13) Game 1 10-6 victory over the visiting Oregon Ducks (40-19) in the Super Regional round wasn’t all positive. Star outfielder Braden Montgomery suffered a season-ending ankle injury in a base-running incident, leaving the Aggies’ lineup with a postseason hole.

However, after Ryan Prager allowed seven hits and all six of Oregon’s runs, head coach Jim Schlossnagle called up Chris Cortez to the mound. In one of the best pitching outings of the year, the junior shut down the Ducks’ offense with 5.2 innings, ten strikeouts, and just two hits and three walks allowed on the afternoon.

After exiting, reliable closer Evan Aschenbeck closed things out with 3 Ks, striking out 60% of the batters he faced. On Sunday, Schlossnagle will now look toward lefty Shane Sdao on the mound. The sophomore is 5-1 on the year, with his most recent start coming last Sunday against Louisiana. He lasted 5.1 innings with six strikeouts in the Aggies’ 9-4 Regional win.

To replace Montgomery in the lineup, expect Kaeden Kent to play second base, while Travis Chesnut will likely stay in the outfield.

Game 2 of Texas A&M vs. Oregon at Olsen Field will be broadcast on ESPN2 on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. CT.

The Collegiate National Team has extended a training camp invite to Shane Sdao

Sophomore standout pitcher Shane Sdao has been invited to Team USA’s training camp

One of the welcome improvements for the 2024 Texas A&M baseball team has been their pitching. With the hiring of Max Weiner, the pitchers across the board have been better as a whole. Their walks have dropped from 4.92 a game to 3.09 and ERA has dropped from 5.67 to 3.85.

While all of the pitchers have benefitted from Coach Weiner, sophomore Shane Sdao has proven to be a reliable start or reliever for this team. He currently has a 5-1 record with a 2.61 ERA and 55 strikeouts. His performance this season has been recognized by the Collegiate National Baseball Team earning him a training camp invite for this year’s team.

The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp will feature 56 of the premier non-draft-eligible college players for a two-game Stars vs. Stripes intrasquad series in North Carolina on June 26 and 27. USA Baseball will name the final Collegiate National Team–inclusive of an International Friendship Series roster and a Summer League Tour roster–following Training Camp on June 29.

Sophomore lefty Shane Sdao discusses No. 3 Texas A&M’s defense vs. No. 23 Louisiana

“The defense makes it really easy to pitch, especially when I throw a lot of strikes. I know that I’m not going to strike everybody out.”

Sophomore left-handed pitcher Shane Sdao led the No. 3 Texas A&M baseball team to a 9-4 win against No. 23 Louisiana on Sunday night at Blue Bell Park to advance from the Bryan-College Station Regional.

Sdao (5-1) started on the mound and earned the victory. He tossed 5.1 innings and allowed 6 hits and 1 run with 6 strikeouts on 79 pitches.

“The defense makes it really easy to pitch, especially when I throw a lot of strikes. I know that I’m obviously not going to strike everybody out. So whenever those balls do get put in play, I have no worry because I know my defense is great,” Sdao explained. “It means a lot, especially whenever I can give some innings to the team, have some rest in the bullpen and not have to use everybody. Every time I go out there, I try to give as much as I can.”

The NCAA Super Regionals versus Oregon begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Olsen Field on ESPN2.

How to watch Texas A&M baseball in Sunday night’s Regional Final

How to watch Texas A&M baseball vs. Texas or Louisiana on Sunday night

Texas A&M (46-13) defeated rival Texas (36-23) in an extra-inning thriller on Saturday night. The Aggies stay undefeated in the regional heading into Sunday’s final, while the Longhorns will now play Louisiana with a chance for a rematch.

Following the game, head coach Jim Schlossnagle made an exciting announcement. Sophomore lefty Shane Sdao, who was named Co-SEC Player of the Week after a stellar performance against Ole Miss, will be taking the mound on Sunday night. This will be his second start of the year, and fans are eagerly awaiting to see if he can replicate his success.

While the Aggies’ offensive woes hindered their chances at building a sizable lead, three Texas errors led to three Aggie runs, as Ted Burton’s memorable single in the top of the 11th led to a 3-2 and eventually final 4-2 lead as the Texas A&M finally took advantage runners in scoring position.

Texas A&M vs. Texas or Louisiana will begin at 7:00 p.m. CT. and is currently slated only to be available for streaming on ESPN+, but this could change just hours before game time.

No. 4 Texas A&M baseball run-rules No. 2 Arkansas to win final regular season series

Texas A&M’s offense explodes for 14 runs, run-ruling Arkansas 14-4 to win the season series

Entering the weekend, Texas A&M’s (44-11, 19-11 SEC) goal was an SEC West title, which would have come to fruition with a sweep against the division-leading Arkansas Razorbacks (32-12, 20-10 SEC), who were just one win away from securing the crown.

After defeating the visitors in Thursday’s elite pitching duo at Ted Burton’s walk-off walk in the bottom of the 11th inning, Arkansas responded on Friday with a late 6-3 victory to earn what is the last division crown in the SEC as the conference will eliminate the East and West starting next season.

For the Aggies, winning the series was all that mattered now, and the offense responded accordingly, hitting .441, including four home runs and seven walks with only six strikeouts on the afternoon, as Hayden Schott led the day with a 3-3 performance at the plate.

Exploding in the sixth and seventh, Texas A&M netted nine runs as freshman Gavin Grahovic recorded his 19th home run of the year. At the same time, Braden Montgomery’s lead-taking homer early in the game was a good sign heading into postseason play.

On the mound, Shane Sdao was solid for the most part but gave up four runs, three of which came off a game-tying home run in one of his rare starts. In relief, Chris Cortez (8-2) was stellar on the bump, striking out eight. Together with Zane Badmaev, Arkansas failed to score another run after said home run.

To end the game in yet another run rule for the Maroon & White, senior Ryan Tagac, who had moved down the depth chart and had been serving in coaching rule throughout the season, was given the nod to take what could be his final collegiate at-bat, pinch-hitting for Ted Burton in the seventh frame.

Leading 13-4, Targac delivered with an RBI single to left center, as the Aggie, as Blue Bell Park roared his name in the process.

With the win, Texas A&M has solidified a four-seed in the SEC Tournament, which guarantees a first-round bye. Next Wednesday, it will play the winner of the five-vs.-twelve-seed match.

Texas A&M Baseball’s pitching lineup vs. Arkansas has been announced

Texas A&M’s pitching rotation for the season finale series vs. Arkansas has been announced

Showing remarkable resilience, Texas A&M (42-10. 17-10 SEC) bounced back on Sunday against the Ole Miss Rebels, delivering a 6-0 shutout win. This victory, just a week after a tough loss to LSU, is a testament to the team’s unwavering spirit.

Wasting Ryan Prager’s ten-strikeout performance on Friday night, Justin Lamkin took the bump on Saturday only to give up five runs in 1.2 innings. The Rebels put up double-digit runs in a 10-2 blowout over the visitors to take the series, as the Aggies looked confused and borderline uninspired.

However, sophomore lefty Shane Sdao made his first start of the season on Sunday, setting career highs in strikeouts (7) and hits allowed (3) while earning Co-SEC Player of the Week honors in the process. He deserves most of the credit for the 6-0 victory.

This weekend, the No. 4-ranked Aggies will finish out the regular season against the visiting No. 2-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks (42-10, 19-8 SEC), as head coach Jim Schlossnagle’s squad still has a shot at the SEC West title with a sweep this weekend. Ahead of Game 1 on Thursday, here is the starting pitching lineup:

  • Game 1 (Friday): Ryan Prager (8-1, 95 SO, 2.71 ERA)
  • Game 2 (Saturday): TBA
  • Game 3 (Sunday): Shane Sdao (4-1, 46 SO, 2.03 ERA)

Texas A&M returns to Blue Bell Park to take on Arkansas. Game 1 is set for Thursday, May 16, and will air at 7:00 p.m. CT. on ESPN2.

Texas A&M baseball drops in newest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

Texas A&M drops a couple of spots in the newest USA Today Sports Coaches Poll. No. the sky is not falling.

Texas A&M (42-10. 17-10 SEC) rebounded on Sunday afternoon to once again salvage a disappointing road series vs. Ole Miss, losing the first two games frustratingly just a week after similarly falling to LSU.

After wasting Ryan Prager’s ten-strikeout performance on Friday night, Justin Lamkin took the bump on Saturday only to give up five runs in 1.2 innings. The Rebels put up double-digit runs in a 10-2 blowout over the visitors to take the series.

However, a bright spot emerged on Sunday afternoon, as sophomore lefty Shane Sdao made his first start of the season, only to set career highs in strikeouts (7) and hits allowed (3) while earning Co-SEC Player of the Week honors in the process, leading to an impressive shutout 6-0 victory.

Even with the win, Texas A&M’s consistency issues at the plate needed to be mended before taking on the No. 2-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks to finish the regular season. Losing four out of their last seven games, the Aggies dropped two spots in USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll rankings to No. 5 on Monday afternoon.

Texas A&M returns to Blue Bell Park to take on Arkansas. Game 1 is set for Thursday, May 16, and will air at 7:00 p.m. CT. on ESPN2.

SEC names Texas A&M’s Shane Sdao Co-Pitcher of the Week

Texas A&M sophomore pitcher Shane Sdao earns SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week after a career game

The Texas A&M pitching staff has been a little shaky the past few weeks causing head coach Jim Schlossnagle to make some adjustments to his weekend starting pitchers. So, in a change left-handed pitcher Shane Sdao got the nod and had a career day on the mound helping salvage the weekend.

The SEC recognized the sophomore’s production after the big week by naming him SEC Player of the Week. Below is the excerpt from the release from the conference officials:

Texas A&M’s Shane Sdao tossed a career-high seven shutout innings and allowed only three hits en route to his fourth win of the year Sunday vs. Ole Miss. The lefty also matched his career-high for strikeouts with six and retired the final 10 batters he faced. Texas A&M went on to finish off its ninth shutout of the year, which is tied for the third most in program history.
