MLB fans called out the All-Star Game for bizarrely skipping Rays’ Wander Franco and Shane McClanahan during intros

This was a weird omission by the All-Star Game.

The MLB All-Star Week is a time of celebration across the league. It’s a time when baseball’s best of the best all congregate in one place to show off their skills as representatives of their teams.

Unfortunately for the Tampa Bay Rays, an announcing snafu skipped the introductions of two of its players during Tuesday’s All-Star Game. Shortstop Wander Franco and pitcher Shane McClanahan were both absent from the All-Star Game introduction announcements despite taking the field during that time.

While neither Franco nor McClanahan were among the American League starters — as Randy Arozarena and Yandy Díaz were both introduced — the pair were seemingly skipped over so the Seattle Mariners could get reception from their hometown crowd.

Talk about an extremely bizarre oversight for sure. The Rays on Twitter, meanwhile, took matters into their own hands about introducing Franco and McClanahan to the festivities.

MLB fans were not pleased about the All-Star Game missing Franco and McClanahan from the event’s introductions.

Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan had the White Sox looking hopeless against his unfair changeup

That pitch seriously doesn’t look real.

Despite seeing their 13-game win streak come to an end last week, the Tampa Bay Rays have hardly missed a beat. They’ve won four-straight games and are already pulling away in the AL East standings.

It certainly helps to have a pitcher like Shane McClanahan.

The 25-year-old left-hander wowed MLB fans earlier in the season with a changeup that seemingly had a mind of its own. And on Saturday, he was back at it again, which was bad news for the White Sox.

McClanahan threw just 88 pitches in the Rays’ 4-3 win and recorded 33 swings and misses. According to MLB, that’s the most swings and misses a pitcher has drawn in an outing with fewer than 90 pitches thrown since tracking began in 2008. That changeup — which isn’t a splitter despite a similar grip — was a huge reason why.

I mean, just look at the pitch he threw to Romy Gonzalez.

That pitch had a ridiculous 19 inches of horizontal break, and that’s not even the best movement that McClanahan is capable of producing.

No wonder MLB fans were once again in awe by McClanahan’s changeup.

Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan stunned MLB fans with a mesmerizing frisbee-like changeup

Actual sorcery.

The Tampa Bay Rays are off to one of the best starts in MLB history with 11 straight wins to open the season. And when you see what pitcher Shane McClanahan is throwing out there, it’s easy to see why.

The Rays took care of the Boston Red Sox, 7-2, on Tuesday to get within two games of the MLB record for wins to start the season (13 by the 1982 Braves and 1987 Brewers). McClanahan was dominant on the night, allowing one run in five innings on two hits and nine strikeouts. Of those nine strikeouts, none was more impressive than the pitch used to retire Rob Refsnyder in the fourth inning.

The 88 mph changeup appeared to be cutting towards the plate before breaking late to the outside with 19 inches of run. For that pitch to come from a left-hander, it really wasn’t fair. By the time Refsnyder realized what that pitch was doing, he had already committed to the swing and had no chance of making contact.

It seriously doesn’t get much nastier than that pitch.

MLB fans were justifiably impressed. He made Refsnyder look silly out there.

Cameras caught Shane McClanahan in an extremely emotional moment when he realized he hurt his shoulder and couldn’t start

Get well soon, Shane McClanahan.

Sports can be fun and filled with good, silly moments that are just filled with joy. Other times? They can be cruel. So so cruel.

We saw one of those cruel moments with Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan on Tuesday night.

The dude has unequivocally been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season and is an AL Cy Young candidate, to be sure. Through 24 starts he has a 2.20 ERA and an 11-5 record. He’s been balling this season.

But he was a late scratch on the mound for the Rays as they were heading into a start against the Marlins. He had what the Rays are calling a left shoulder impingement and couldn’t go.

That’s never good, but it’s always tough to hear you can’t play when you’re playing so well. But it’s especially so when it’s because of injury.

That’s why McClanahan took it so hard when he found out he couldn’t go on Tuesday. Cameras caught him having an extremely emotional moment after figuring out he couldn’t play.

He looked absolutely devastated. And who could blame him? He’s been on fire this season. Of course, he wants to continue that. Especially when the Rays are leading in the AL Wild Card race for the playoffs.

Hopefully, things aren’t as bad as they seem and he can get back on the mound ASAP. Fans felt so bad for him.
