Notre Dame vs. Army: First-Quarter Analysis

So far, so good for the Irish.

So far, Notre Dame is off to the start every one of its fans was hoping for in this Shamrock Series game against Army. All you really have to know is that the Irish have a 14-0 lead, but let’s go into specifics anyway because every unit contributed in the first 15 minutes.

The Irish’s defense started out fine by forcing a Black Knights three-and-out. Then, the offense took over, and [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] needed a little over two minutes to lead a drive that consisted of nothing but positive plays and ended with him throwing a 28-yard touchdown pass to [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag].

The Knights then went three-and-out again, but the ball never left their side of the field because [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] blocked the ensuing punt, and it was recovered by [autotag]Christian Gray[/autotag] to set the Irish up at first-and-goal. After two runs didn’t go very far, Leonard threw to [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] for a 6-yard touchdown.

The Knights had better success on their next possession, getting into Irish territory and being aided by an offside penalty by [autotag]Jaylen Sneed[/autotag] on fourth-and-1. When the quarter ended, they were in the red zone. We’ll see how much that makes a difference in this game later on.

Notre Dame kicker, Army veteran highlighted in NBC Sports video

The Irish have a hero on their team.

Notre Dame walk-on kicker [autotag]Eric Goins[/autotag] is 30 years old, but there’s a reason he’s older than most college football players. After four years at The Citadel and seven years serving in the Army, he decided to pursue his MBA at Notre Dame. While doing so, he also decided to become a walk-on for the football team.

Goins has appeared in six games for the Irish this season and even registered a tackle. But his time at Notre Dame is about more than football. It’s about transition from military to civilian life, and he’s living proof of how much support the university offers military veterans who choose to continue their education there.

Still, Goins surely is bound to have some feels when the Irish go up against the Black Knights during the annual Shamrock Series game at Yankee Stadium. Both teams are fighting for their College Football Playoff lives, so this game is about more than just pageantry.

Regardless, Goins, with some additional thoughts from military brat [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag], talks about his experience in this video from NBC Sports:

Best of luck to Goins for the rest of the season and in pursuing his degree. We also thank him greatly for his service to our country.

Notre Dame drops the game trailer for the Shamrock Series vs. Army

It’s almost time to see the Irish back on the field!

Every Friday during the college football season, the Notre Dame football social media team puts together a hype video ahead of the Irish’s game that week.

Since it is the end of the work week today, the trailer for this weekends Shamrock Series game against the Army Black Knights in Yankee Stadium has been released.

Like they have done all season, the Irish social team has used an old school hip-hop song to go along with a variety of highlights from the season. They ultimately used Eric Sermon’s song “Feel it” accompanied by Sy Scott.

Once again, they do a great job in getting everyone ready for the game on Saturday, and this one featured some pretty cool background newspaper “clippings” of getting an chance to play in the historic baseball stadium.

While we will have to wait until Saturday night to see the Irish trying to extend their win streak to 9-games, the hype video can hold us over for a bit.

Notre Dame, USC to be featured throughout NBC tripleheader Nov. 23

Don’t make any plans for that day.

Notre Dame and USC make up an intersectional rivalry unlike any other in the country. One upcoming Saturday will showcase both schools on national TV perhaps like never before.

NBC Sports has a longtime association with Irish football, and USC now is part of a Big Ten which has its games broadcast by the same company. And the stars are aligning for one heck of day.

NBC will kick off a tripleheader of coverage involving both schools with the Irish and Trojans women’s basketball teams meeting in Los Angeles at 4 p.m. EST. All eyes will be on that to see whether [autotag]Hannah Hidalgo[/autotag] and [autotag]Olivia Miles[/autotag] get the best of JuJu Watkins and Kiki Iriafen. Both duos are incredibly dangerous.

Next will be the Irish football team’s annual Shamrock Series game with Army at Yankee Stadium. Wrapping up the day’s coverage will be the Trojans football team facing UCLA at the Rose Bowl. Both games will be the teams’ last before playing each other at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum the following week.

Clear your schedule for Nov. 23, Irish fans. It will be the right day to do so.

New York Yankees Museum features relics from Notre Dame-Army rivalry

Want to see pieces of Irish history in the Bronx?

The 2024 Shamrock Series will mark the first time Notre Dame has faced Army at Yankee Stadium since 2010. However, Irish football historians know that the teams playing each other in the Bronx goes back nearly a century.

The Irish and Black Knights faced each other at the original Yankee Stadium nearly every year from 1925 to 1946. The one exception was 1930, when the game was played at Soldier Field in Chicago.

I was in New York this past weekend to make my first trip to Yankee Stadium, where I came across the New York Yankees Museum. That’s where I discovered programs from the teams’ games at the original stadium in 1941 (a scoreless tie) and 1945 (a 48-0 blowout victory for the Knights).

The relics didn’t end there though. There was a piece of the goalpost from the 1932 game (the Irish won, 21-0) and a marker indicating that the 1928 contest is when [autotag]Knute Rockne[/autotag] famously told his team to “Win One for the Gipper”, which it did, 12-6.

So if you ever get to visit Yankee Stadium, swing by the New York Yankees Museum before or during the game. Admission is free, and you’ll be in awe by every historical relic you see, but especially those related to the Irish.

Notre Dame football releases its Shamrock Series jersey’s in an epic video

Sell Like a Champion Today

It was teased yesterday, and on Wednesday Notre Dame football released its [autotag]Shamrock Series[/autotag] uniforms for the 2024 season.

As the Irish have done before, they spoofed a movie, this time being Wolf of Wall Street. The video wasn’t as expansive as previous ones like The Hangover, but what was important was the jersey.

Notre Dame will wear all blue jerseys with gold numbers and accents. You have to give some props to the social media team as well, as the caption reads “Sell Like a Champion Today.”

The Irish will wear these jerseys against Army, in a game that will be played in historic Yankee Stadium.

I’m a big fan of alternate jerseys, and this one checks all the boxes. We all can’t wait to see Notre Dame wearing these on November 23rd.

Here is a closer look at the uniforms.

Notre Dame football releases its documentary on its 2023 trip to Ireland

It has been released Irish fans!

As you may have known, Notre Dame football has been working on a documentary on its most recent trip to Ireland where they faced Navy.

The Irish won fairly convincingly, but that didn’t matter much. It was all about the experience and history of Notre Dame returning to Ireland. It opens up with how this all started in 1996, and how well that turned out for the program.

Since the originally scheduled game happened during the COVID 2020 season, it was a big question if the game would be played. Obviously it did, and the behind the scenes planning was major.

The documentary goes over all aspects of the game, the trip, the activities the players got to participate in, and the aftermath.

The 30-minute video was released on YouTube, and you can watch it here.

Notre Dame football will release documentary on its trip to Ireland on Monday

A must watch for Irish fans

Notre Dame football has been playing games in Ireland since 1996, when the Irish faced off against Navy in the [autotag]Shamrock Series[/autotag].

This past season Notre Dame once again faced the Midshipmen, with the Irish prevailing 42-3 in front of a crowd of 49,000 in Aviva Stadium. Not only did Notre Dame come back with a win, but they took plenty of behind the scenes videos as well.

On Monday, the Irish will release a full feature on their most recent trip to England, one that surely will be a fantastic watch. Personally, I love when you get to see behind the scenes action, as it really gives another insight into all of the inner-workings of a football team.

If you are like me, you’ll watch this shortly after it’s released on Monday at 6 p.m. EST.

Hannah Hidalgo, Notre Dame to face JuJu Watkins, USC in home-and-home

You won’t want to miss these two First Team All-Americans battle it out.

Women’s basketball fans will be in for a real treat over the next two seasons. Notre Dame’s [autotag]Hannah Hidalgo[/autotag] and USC’s JuJu Watkins both were First Team All-Americans as freshmen during the 2023-24 season. Given that and the schools’ football history together, there was an appetite to see these two face off in college. Fortunately, we’ll have that chance.

The Irish and Trojans have announced a home-and-home for the next two seasons. The first game will be played Nov. 23 in Los Angeles, hopefully before the football team’s Shamrock Series game at Yankee Stadium kicks off. The Trojans will come to South Bend the following season.

This isn’t only about the two phenoms though. Both the Irish and Trojans are expected to contend for the national championship this coming season, and everyone with even a slight interest in women’s basketball should be excited for this first game especially. We’ll see where the teams are by the second game, but for the moment, this is a series worth getting hyped for.

Notre Dame will face Army in 2024 Shamrock Series at Yankee Stadium

There are historical ties to this game.

This year will mark 100 years since the game that gave birth to the famed Four Horsemen moniker took place. This is cause for celebration, so why not do it during the annual Shamrock Series?

Notre Dame and Army, the teams involved in the Four Horsemen game, will face each other Nov. 23 in New York, the city where the game took place. The Shamrock Series is returning to Yankee Stadium for the third time, and it’s the third time the Irish will face the Knights in the annual off-site home game. These teams also met at Yankee Stadium in the 2010 game.

It would be surprising if the buildup for this game didn’t feature many references to the Four Horsemen. They played a big part in making Notre Dame the legendary program it’s been for much of its history. The least they can do is do those gentlemen homage as part of the hype machine.
