UFC 281 proved to be a brutal event, and the medical suspensions handed out by the New York State Athletic Commission speak to that.

On Monday, MMA Junkie received the full list from the NYSAC, which oversaw UFC 281 at Madison Square Garden in New York. It showed 19 fighters suspended indefinitely on a card that featured 11 finishes, which means those fighters will need doctor’s clearance before returning to the cage.

Among the 19 indefinite suspensions, five fighters – [autotag]Frankie Edgar[/autotag], [autotag]Dominick Reyes[/autotag], [autotag]Nicolae Negumereanu[/autotag], [autotag]Seung Woo Choi[/autotag], and [autotag]Ottman Azaitar[/autotag] – received the longest mandatory minimum of 90 days.

Former lightweight champion Edgar was knocked out by Chris Gutierrez in his retirement fight; Reyes was knocked out by Ryan Spann; Azaitar lost by knockout to Matt Frevola; Choi lost by TKO to Michael Trizano; and Negumereanu was knocked out by Carlos Ulberg.

Both fighters in the main event, [autotag]Alex Pereira[/autotag] and [autotag]Israel Adesanya,[/autotag] received indefinite suspensions as a result of Pereira’s fifth-round TKO win to claim the middleweight title. Pereira was suspended 30 days and Adesanya 60 days.

Scroll below to see the medical suspensions handed out to each fighter. It’s important to note that fighters can return to competition sooner than the allotted suspension if they are cleared by a doctor.

UFC 281 weigh-in results: Israel Adesanya vs. Alex Pereira avoids issue in dramatic fashion; two others miss weight

Check out results from the official UFC 281 weigh-ins in New York, where Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira made weight with a little drama.

NEW YORK – MMA Junkie was on scene and reporting from Friday’s official UFC 281 fighter weigh-ins, where two fighters missed their marks.

In the main event, middleweight champion [autotag]Israel Adesanya[/autotag] (23-1 MMA, 12-1 UFC) takes on challenger and former kickboxing opponent [autotag]Alex Pereira[/autotag] (6-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC). Adesanya was among the initial burst of fighters to weigh in, but Pereira needed until the final minutes of the two-hour window. With five minutes left, Pereira made weight inside the weigh-in box UFC fighters use to strip down for some extra help on the scale.

Women’s strawweight chcamp [autotag]Carla Esparza[/autotag] (19-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) and former titleholder Zhang Weili (22-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC), who meet in the co-feature made weight without issue. In addition, [autotag]Michael Chandler[/autotag] (23-7 MMA, 2-2 UFC), and [autotag]Dustin Poirier[/autotag] (28-7 MMA, 20-6 UFC) successfully hit their marks ahead of a key lightweight fight.

Preliminary card fighters [autotag]Mike Trizano[/autotag] (9-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and [autotag]Ryan Spann[/autotag] (20-7 MMA, 6-2 UFC) missed weight, however. Their fights against [autotag]Seung Woo Choi[/autotag] (10-5 MMA, 3-4 UFC) and [autotag]Dominick Reyes[/autotag] (12-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC), respectively, will proceed. Trizano and Spann each will forfeit 20 percent of their purses to their opponents.

Former lightweight champ [autotag]Frankie Edgar[/autotag] (24-10-1 MMA, 18-10-1 UFC), who fights in what likely will be his retirement fight at banamweight against [autotag]Chris Gutierrez[/autotag] (18-3-2 MMA, 6-1-1 UFC), made weight again, which made it 30-for-30 in his UFC tenure.

The early weigh-ins took place at the UFC host hotel in New York and precede the ceremonial weigh-ins for the fans, which take place at 4 p.m. ET at Radio City Music Hall in New York. The nearby Madison Square Garden hosts Saturday’s event, which has a main card on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPNews and early prelims on ESPN+.

UFC on ESPN 25 video: Seung Woo Choi stings Julian Erosa with quick TKO flurry

It took only 97 seconds for the Korean featherweight to end Julian Erosa’s night.

[autotag]Seung Woo Choi[/autotag] keeps on rolling.

Saturday, at UFC on ESPN 25, Choi (9-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) extended his winning streak to three with a violent flurry of punches that finished [autotag]Julian Erosa[/autotag] (24-8 MMA, 3-4 UFC) quickly. The stoppage came 1:37 into Round 1.

The featherweight fight was the third on the UFC on ESPN 25 main card. The event took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and streamed on ESPN/ESPN+.

Though the fight lasted only 97 seconds, Choi appeared to be a step ahead throughout. He landed a handful of punches prior to the finish that put Erosa on notice. In the finishing exchange, a left hand dropped Erosa to the canvas. As he attempted to recover, Erosa left his guard down and was met by a series of Choi follow-up shots. Referee Mark Smith dove in as Erosa’s head bounced off the canvas.

Choi’s current three-fight winning streak comes after he lost his first two promotional appearances. Meanwhile, Erosa won both of his promotional appearances in his third stint with the UFC prior to Saturday.
