Seton Hall at Villanova: Three things to know

  1. Villanova has had three separate program pauses due to COVID-19, and this contest marks the Wildcats’ first game since Dec. 23. The program’s most recent stoppage ended with a return to practice Thursday; only eight players were available for that session.
  2. The Pirates have won eight of their last 10 games, but they had a game nixed Saturday and haven’t played since Jan. 9. Seton Hall is 4-1 straight up and 4-1 against the spread over its last five road games. Dating back to last season, the Pirates are 5-1 ATS on the road against teams with a .600-or-better home record.
  3. The last four games of this series have seen the underdog win outright. A year ago, Seton Hall lost to Villanova by two at home and by six on the road. The game at ‘Nova had 10 ties and lead changes, and the Pirates were within 3 points with fewer than 90 seconds remaining.

Seton Hall at Villanova: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Villanova 72, Seton Hall 66

Money line (ML)

The Wildcats are the superior team, but their layoff makes them an iffy proposition. A straight-up play on Seton Hall would need a boost from the current price in order to bring some value. PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Pirates have a few wins under their belt compelling enough to peg this one at around a 6-8-point contest. Figure SHU getting enough done inside and at the line to earn an ATS win against a rusty Villanova five.

BACK THE PIRATES +9.5 (-120).

Over/Under (O/U)

There are too many question marks to call for much of a play here, but both teams play a slow-tempo game. There is a lean on the UNDER 139.5 (-110).

The Seton Hall Pirates (4-3 overall, 1-0 Big East) visit the Marquette Golden Eagles (5-2, 1-0) Thursday for a 9 p.m. ET tip. Below, we analyze the Seton Hall-Marquette college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Seton Hall at Marquette: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 5:15 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Seton Hall +145 (bet $100 to win $145) | Marquette -175 (bet $175 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Seton Hall +4 (-115) | Marquette -4 (-105)
  • Over/Under: 145 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Seton Hall at Marquette: Three things to know

  1. Seton Hall enters on a 3-game win streak, recently beating St. John’s 77-58 Friday as a 5-point favorite. Senior F Sandro Mamukelashvili scored a career-high 32 points – his second 30-point game of the season – as the Pirates won their Big East opener and covered the spread in their third straight game. Mamukelashvili and junior G Jared Rhoden lead the Pirates with 20.4 and 14.1 points per game, respectively. They also are the team’s top rebounders, averaging 7.4 RPG each.
  2. Marquette prevailed in its Big East opener, defeating ninth-ranked Creighton 89-84 Monday as an 8.5-point underdog. The Golden Eagles produced a 29-10 run in the second half to turn a 9-point deficit into a 70-60 advantage with 7:26 to go. The lead was cut to 76-75 at the 2:31 mark, but the Golden Eagles never relinquished the lead and closed with a 13-9 run for the win. Sophomore G D.J. Carton led Marquette with a career-high 20 points, and senior G Koby McEwen, added 18 points. McEwen leads the Golden Eagles with 15.7 PPG.
  3. Seton Hall has won the last four in the series, including an 88-79 victory at Marquette as a 2.5-point dog last season (Feb. 29). Marquette leads the all-time series 19-11, including 18-11 since joining the Big East in 2005-06.

Seton Hall at Marquette: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Marquette 79, Seton Hall 77

Money line (ML)

Marquette (-175) is 2-0 vs. top-10 teams. It beat Creighton and upset then-No. 4 Wisconsin 67-65 as a 4.5-point dog on freshman F Justin Lewis‘ tip-in at the buzzer off a missed free throw. The Golden Eagles should squeak out a win here, but it will be too close to risk a -175 ML bet on. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

Back SETON HALL +4 (-115), which is 5-2 ATS, while Marquette is 4-3 ATS. The Pirates are 5-0 ATS in their last five games vs. the Golden Eagles. Look for Hall to keep it close, but come up just a tad short.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 145 (-115) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1.5 times your usual wager. Marquette, 3-4 O/U, averages 76.3 PPG, while Seton Hall is 4-3 O/U and averages 77.4 PPG. The Over is also 9-3 in the Pirates’ last 12 road games.

St. John’s at Seton Hall odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s St. John’s Red Storm at Seton Hall Pirates sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The St. John’s Red Storm (5-1) visit the Seton Hall Pirates (3-3) for a Big East battle at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the St. John’s-Seton Hall college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

St. John’s at Seton Hall: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:30 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: St. John’s +170 (bet $100 to win $170) | Seton Hall -210 (bet $210 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: St. John’s +4.5 (-110) | Seton Hall -4.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 150 (O: -110 | U: -110)

St. John’s at Seton Hall: Three things to know

  1. St. John’s squeaked past Rider as 18.5-point favorites Tuesday with an 82-79 win. The Red Storm’s keys to the victory were their ability to control the glass—out-rebounding Rider 41-30—and quality performances from wings Julian Champagnie and Vince Cole.
  2. Seton Hall won its second straight by rolling Wagner 78-45 Tuesday. The Pirates defense smothered the Seahawks, holding them to 27% field-goal shooting and 15% (3-for-20) from behind the arc.
  3. Both were scheduled to play other Big East teams but COVID-19 forced those opponents to pause basketball activities. This is the second year on the job for St. John’s head coach Mike Anderson and the Red Storm lost both meetings with Seton Hall last season. They covered once against the Pirates.

St. John’s at Seton Hall: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

St. John’s 78, Seton Hall 75

Money line (ML)

What St. John’s is missing in experience and size it can make up with pressuring the ball handler and getting out in transition. The Red Storm is sixth in the nation in steals per game and 10th in adjusted tempo.

Also, St. John’s moves the ball a lot more, averaging 18.5 assists per game (31st in the country) compared to Seton Hall’s 14 assists per game (151st). Ball pressure and tempo can minimize the Pirates’ size advantage.

lean ST. JOHN’S (+170) for a quarter-unit to maximize value because I am going to hit the spread harder.

Against the spread (ATS)

Money is flooding in on the Red Storm with 86% of the money wagered and 63% of the bets placed on St. John’s, according to Pregame.com. It has moved the line from the 7-point opener to 4.5 points.

The percentage of money wagered on St. John’s is key because that’s typically considered the sharp side of the market. The Red Storm’s swarming defense can always flip the momentum in the game and help them sneak in the backdoor if need be.

GIMME ST. JOHN’S +4.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

St. John’s and Seton Hall have a combined 9-3 O/U record this year because both teams have issues defensively. The Red Storm are great at creating turnovers but are 286th in opponents’ effective field-goal percentage but the Pirates are ranked below St. John’s in defensive efficiency.

lean Under 150 (-110) for a half-unit.

Seton Hall at Louisville odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Seton Hall Pirates at Louisville Cardinals sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Seton Hall Pirates (0-0) and Louisville Cardinals (1-0) meet at the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville Friday at 4 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Seton Hall-Louisville college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Seton Hall at Louisville: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Seton Hall +220 (bet $100 to win $220) | Louisville -278 (bet $278 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Seton Hall +6.5 (-121) | Louisville -6.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 142.5 (O: -115 | U: -106)

Seton Hall at Louisville: Three things to know

  1. We haven’t yet seen the Pirates in action, and there are questions on how Seton Hall will fare without the likes of Quincy McKnight and Myles Powell. The cupboard is certainly not bare, and the Pirates still have the dynamic F Sandro Mamukelashvili to be a force in the middle, while G Bryce Aiken transfers over from Harvard and will be an immediate impact player. G Myles Cale and G Jared Rhoden also return, so the Pirates will be strong early on if they can jell.
  2. Louisville looked strong Wednesday in its opening game 79-44 win over Evansville. The Cardinals blasted out to a 20-point halftime lead and had it on cruise control the whole way. G Carlik Jones looks like the next big thing, going for 18 points, 8 boards and 7 assists. Although, no offense to Evansville, but we should pump the brakes until we see him against a legit D1 team.
  3. There were more contributors than just Jones in the opener. The Cardinals had four scorers in double digits, and G/F Samuell Williamson was even more effective knocking down two-thirds of his shot attempts while finishing with 17 points, 6 boards and 5 dimes. He turned it over four times, too, something he needs to curb.

Seton Hall at Louisville: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Louisville 79, Seton Hall 70

Money line (ML)

Louisville (-278) is a little more expensive than I care to wager on a standalone ML play, although tossing it into a multi-team parlay is not something I’d be averse to doing. Straight up, though? AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

LOUISVILLE -6.5 (+100) passed the eyeball test on its home floor in the opener, but again, it was against an Evansville team from the Missouri Valley Conference which did not win a league game a season ago.

We’ll get a much better idea of the legitimacy of the Cardinals after this one. I liked their athleticism in the opener, however, and the fact they have a game under their belt, while the Pirates are playing for the first time is a huge difference.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 142.5 (-115) is a decent value play here as long as the Pirates do not show a lot of early rust in its initial foray into the 2020-21 season. Louisville hit 58.5% from the field in the opener, and it was a respectable 37.5% from behind the arc. The Cardinals look to be a high-flying offense just scratching the surface.
