Senators at Canucks: Projected starting goalies

Marcus Hogberg (0-1-0, 3.78 GAA, .862 SV%) at Braden Holtby (2-2-0, 3.70 GAA, .888 SV%)

Matt Murray coughed up seven goals in Monday’s 7-1 loss in the opening game of the two-game set at Rogers Arena, so Hogberg is likely to get a chance to face the Canucks. Vancouver has scored 3.3 goals per game to rank ninth in the NHL, so it’s a tough assignment for either netminder.

Thatcher Demko received plenty of support in a 7-1 win Monday. However, Holtby wasn’t signed to sit on the bench, and he’ll get a crack at the Senators in the second game, looking for the same kind of offensive support Demko enjoyed in the opener.

Senators at Canucks: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Canucks 5, Senators 2

Money line (ML)

The CANUCKS (-155) should be able to push past the Senators (+130) after winning the front end of the back-to-back with a six-goal win. The Senators allowed 4.3 goals per game, and they’re the worst team in the league in shots on goal allowed with 36.4. Vancouver will enjoy plenty of offense again on Wednesday.

Against the spread (ATS)

The CANUCKS -1.5 (+165) are a good bet based upon their showing Monday, but bet lightly. They’re 2-2-0 in four games at home this season, and they covered the puck line only once. But facing the Senators will provide plenty of opportunity for offense, and they should get the puck-line cover as long as the Vancouver goaltender holds up.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 6.5 (-115) is worth a small-unit play. The Over has cashed in six of the past eight for Ottawa when playing on a day of rest, and 4-1 in their past five after allowing three or more goals. The Over has cashed in five straight for Vancouver, while hitting in each of their four games at home, and six of the past seven as a favorite.
