UGA great Nick Chubb is dominating NFL defenses

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is one of the greatest runners in Georgia history and now he is dominating the NFL.

Georgia’s second all-time leading rusher, now Cleveland Brown Nick Chubb is one of the most beloved running backs in UGA history, which is saying something.

‘RBU’ has produced some of the greatest runners in football history, including guys who went on to dominate beyond the college level.

Herschel Walker, Garrison Hearst, Terrell Davis, Knowshon Moreno and Todd Gurley are just some of the Bulldogs who made a name in the NFL beyond their time in Athens.

It’s time to add Chubb to the list.

The Cedartown, Georgia native has averaged 128 yards per game since returning from an MCL sprain four weeks ago, including an astonishing 6.7 yards per carry.

In the Browns win vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday, Chubb ran 19 times for 144 yards and this touchdown.

On the year, Chubb has totaled 115 carries for 719 yards and six touchdowns.

Chubb has built himself into one of the best runners in the NFL, so it’s safe to say the Browns didn’t miss with the second round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Just think back to 2016 at UGA when Chubb suffered a devastating knee injury vs. Tennessee. He has truly come back better than ever and I am loving every bit of it.

UGA football target, 2021 No. 2 safety Terrion Arnold to make announcement on Tuesday

Four-star Tallahassee, Florida safety Terrion Arnold, a Georgia football target, is set to make an announcement on Tuesday. Details here.

Four-star safety Terrion Arnold (John Paul II Catholic High School) from Tallahassee, Florida, listed his top-11 schools, which included Georgia football, in late August.

Now, according to his Twitter account, he is set to make an announcement at noon on Tuesday, December 1.

The No. 2 rated safety in the 2021 recruiting class (247Sports) tweeted this on Monday morning.

Arnold’s top-11 schools are Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee, Oklahoma, LSU, Texas A&M, Southern California and Georgia Tech.

Florida, Florida State and Alabama have the hot hand with Arnold right now, according to the 247Sports Crystall Ball predictions, but Georgia coach Kirby Smart is well-versed in the art of flipping out of state recruits, especially from Florida (George Pickens).

Check back with us at UGAWire.com for updates on Arnold as he makes his announcement Tuesday.

Georgia football moves up in this week’s AP Poll

Georgia is moving in the right direction according to this week’s AP Poll. See where the Bulldogs rank here.

Georgia moved from No. 13 to No. 11 in the latest AP Poll rankings released on Sunday.

The Bulldogs (6-2) have found a spark in USC transfer quarterback JT Daniels.

The Irvine, California native had a great first start vs. Mississippi State two weeks ago when he threw for 400 yards and four touchdowns and a solid showing on Saturday vs. South Carolina, completing 10 of 16 passes for 139 yards with two touchdowns and one tipped-pass interception.

A quarterback was all Georgia was missing and now that it seems that the Bulldogs have found their signal caller, the polls should show UGA a little more love.

On a more positive note, Georgia is ranked No. 9 in the College Football Playoff Rankings and the Bulldogs may even be in a better spot when the updated rankings are released on Tuesday night.

Here’s the week-14 AP Poll in its entirety.

#1 Alabama (62)
#2 Notre Dame
#3 Ohio State

#16 Northwestern

Georgia’s next game will be in Athens on Dec. 5 vs. Vanderbilt (0-8).

Kirby Smart speaks on QB D’Wan Mathis leaving Georgia

Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart comments on the reports of QB D’Wan Mathis leaving the University of Georgia.

Just moments before Saturday’s kickoff between Georgia and South Carolina, Dawgs247 broke the reports that Georgia quarterback D’Wan Mathis did not travel to Columbia and will be leaving the team.

Mathis is 12 for 30 on the year for 89 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.  He was pulled for Stetson Bennett following a rough start to the season against Arkansas.  USC transfer JT Daniels has started under center for the Dawgs past two games.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart commented on the status of Mathis in his postgame press conference Saturday night.

“D’Wan and I have had several conversations,” Smart said. “D’wan has been very communicative. He’s handled things really well. The stuff that goes on with D’Wan and our team and us is really a team-related deal so I’m not really going to comment on it. But D’Wan’s handled everything with first class.”

The redshirt freshman who flipped his commitment to Ohio State underwent brain surgery to remove a cyst in 2019.  Many thought he would never play another snap of football but now Mathis will now enter the NCAA transfer portal in hopes to find a starting job on a new team.

Halftime: UGA Twitter reacts to a huge first half from Georgia run game

Georgia is leading South Carolina 28-10 at halftime thanks to a big performance by the Bulldogs running game. Here’s what UGA Twitter says.

No. 9 Georgia is leading South Carolina 28-10 at halftime.

The story so far is a dominant Georgia offense, led not by the arm of quarterback JT Daniels like last week vs. Mississippi State, but by the Bulldogs run game.

Georgia has ran 23 times for 208 yards and 3 touchdowns.

UGA Twitter reacts to a strong first half:

Watch: Georgia rushes for 208 yards in the first half vs. South Carolina

No. 9 Georgia leads South Carolina 28-10 at halftime after a huge performance from the Bulldogs run game. Highlights, details and more here.

Georgia decided to keep quarterback JT Daniels arm in the bag vs. South Carolina and so far, it’s working as the Bulldogs take a 28-10 lead into halftime in Columbia.

UGA has rushed 23 times for 208 yards and junior running back James Cook looks incredible so far with five carries for 98 yards and two touchdowns – 20 yards per carry.

The Bulldogs rushed for eight yards vs. Mississippi State last week

Part of the reason for such a low total was how explosive the passing game was behind quarterback JT Daniels as he passed for 401 yards and four touchdowns.

The other reason was Georgia couldn’t get a push on a struggling Mississippi State defense.

Tonight vs. South Carolina, the story has been completely different, especially on the Bulldogs front, which is creating gaping holes for these Georgia running backs.

Just check out these stats from ‘running back U’.

  • Junior RB James Cook (5 carries, 98 yards, 2 TDs)
  • Sophomore RB Zamir White (11 carries, 75 yards, 1 TD)
  • Kenny McIntosh (5 carries, 53 yards)

Granted South Carolina is missing four defensive starters to opt-outs and their leading pass rusher JJ Enagbare due to COVID testing, so Georgia has a huge advantage in the depth department.

Still, it’s nice to see this Bulldogs run game come back to life.

Check out some of the best runs of the first half:

No. 9 Georgia is looking good early in Columbia vs. South Carolina.

The Dawgs lead 14-0 after a touchdown pass from quarterback JT Daniels and a rushing touchdown by running back James Cook.

That’s two drives and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

It was this big run by Cook that set up his easy toss sweep for the score.

And then that classic Georgia toss sweep for six.

I love what I’m seeing from offensive coordinator Todd Monken so far. He’s established the run, gaining 151 yards so far and has gotten Daniels going with easy throws.

Tune in to Georgia vs. South Carolina live now on SEC Network.

Georgia vs. South Carolina: UGA star DT Jordan Davis listed as questionable

Georgia star defensive tackle Jordan Davis is listed as questionable for the Bulldogs matchup vs. South Carolina tonight in Columbia.

The Bulldogs have missed preseason All-SEC defensive tackle Jordan Davis mightily since he went down with an elbow injury vs. Kentucky four weeks ago.

Good news is, it looks like he may go tonight in Columbia.

No. 9 Georgia kicks off vs. South Carolina at 7:30 p.m. on SEC Network.

At the very least it’s great to see Davis travel with the team and get on the field for warmups.

We’re not sure how much playing time he may get, if any, as South Carolina’s offense has struggled to get anything going as of late, scoring just 10 points last week’s 17-10 loss vs. Missouri.

Breaking: Georgia QB D’Wan Mathis has left the UGA football team

Redshirt freshman quarterback D’Wan Mathis has reportedly left the Georgia football program. Details and analysis here.

I keep talking about this Georgia quarterback drama as if it’s a book the size of a table and well, it just keeps getting bigger.

Redshirt freshman quarterback D’Wan Mathis has reportedly left the Georgia football program.

Dawgs 247Sports broke the news and multiple sources have confirmed.

This probably has something to do with USC transfer JT Daniels getting the start last week vs. MSU and balling out, completing 28 of 38 passes for 401 yards and four touchdowns.

Yes, it was against a bad MSU defense, but at the very least Georgia has its quarterback for the rest of the season and with Mathis bowing-out, Daniels may be the one under center when the Bulldogs take on Clemson in the 2021 season opener.

For now, all eyes are on Columbia as Georgia takes on the Gamecocks at 7:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network.

Check back with us at UGAWire.com for more updates regarding Mathis as news breaks.
