SEC Basketball standings after Texas A&M’s 70-66 win over Purdue

Texas A&M’s win over Purdue sets the Aggies up for a challenging, but exciting SEC slate

Texas A&M (9-2) looks like one of the best teams in the country after the Aggies defeated No. 11 Purdue 70-66 in the Indy Classic on Saturday afternoon, but looking around the rest of the SEC, A&M will face weekly challenges right out of the gate.

In his sixth season, head coach Buzz Williams recognizes that achieving success in one of the most respected and challenging conferences in college basketball comes with its difficulties.

Most importantly, defense travels every game, and the Aggies look like one of the best units in the country thus far. On Saturday, the SEC dominated again, starting with A&M and ending with Alabama’s win over Creighton, a team the Aggies defeated on a neural court earlier in the year.

Outside of LSU’s loss to SMU, 15 conference teams won their respective game, capped off with Texas’s blowout 121-57 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Here are the updated SEC Basketball standings ahead of the final week of nonconference play:

  1. No. 7 Alabama (8-2)
  2. Arkansas (9-2)
  3. Auburn (9-1)
  4. No. 9 Florida (10-0)
  5. Georgia (9-1)
  6. No. 5 Kentucky (10-1)
  7. LSU (8-2)
  8. No. 19 Ole Miss (9-1)
  9. No. 25 Mississippi State (9-1)
  10. Missouri (9-1)
  11. No. 13 Oklahoma (10-0)
  12. South Carolina (7-3)
  13. Tennessee (10-0)
  14. Texas (9-2)
  15. Texas A&M (9-2)
  16. Vanderbilt (9-1)

Note: These standings update the SEC’s cohesive win total before conference play begins in January.

Final SEC men’s basketball standings and tournament seeding following conclusion of regular season

The Tigers went just 2-16 in conference play and will be the No. 14 seed in Nashville this week.

The 2022-23 regular season for SEC men’s basketball is now in the books, and it was largely one that LSU fans will wish to forget.

After a 12-1 start and an upset win over then-No. 9 Arkansas in the SEC opener, the Tigers proceeded to drop 14 games in a row and fell to the bottom of the league standings.

LSU ended that skid with a win over a hot Vanderbilt team, but it wasn’t able to build on that performance and dropped its final three games of the regular season. Now, coach Matt McMahon’s team enters the SEC Tournament as the No. 14 seed and will open against No. 11-seeded Georgia on Wednesday night.

On the eve of the tournament, here’s how the final league standings shake out. This is also the seed list for this week’s event in Nashville.

SEC basketball standings entering March

Georgia basketball will have to play in the first round of the SEC tournament after losing to Florida.

The SEC is projected to have eight teams make the NCAA Tournament, which would be the second-most of any conference in the nation. Only the Big Ten (nine) is projected to have more teams make the NCAA Tournament than the SEC.

The Georgia Bulldogs have really turned things around in year one under head coach Mike White. Georgia is no longer the doormat of the SEC. However, the Dawgs still have a lot of progress to make.

Nobody expected Alabama to be this good, in basketball. The Crimson Tide are currently expected to be the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Every team in the SEC has either one or two games remaining.

The SEC tournament will be held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, from March 8-12. The conference’s full 14 teams participate. The SEC’s top 10 seeds receive a first-round bye. Additionally, the top four seeds get another bye and don’t have to play in the first two rounds.

Here’s a look at how the conference standings are entering March:

SEC men’s basketball standings entering back half of the season

Here’s how things currently stand in the league.

We’re already almost a week into the month of February, and the college basketball season is very quickly grinding toward a conclusion.

SEC teams are already in the back half of conference play, and the league has been one of the strongest in the entire country this season with two teams — Alabama and Tennessee — currently ranking in the top five.

After starting the year 12-1, LSU has struggled since league play began and has lost 10 straight games. The Tigers are no longer much of a factor in the NCAA Tournament conversation and even less so in the race for a regular season SEC title.

Still, there’s time to turn it around and end the season with some momentum in the final eight games. With that in mind, here’s how things stand in the conference.
