A look at the 2023-24 preseason SEC men’s basketball rankings with the start of the season set to begin soon.

Even though we are in the thick of the 2023 college football season, it doesn’t slow down the rest of college athletics.

The 2023-24 college basketball season is just around the corner and that means it is time for preseason rankings. On Tuesday, the Southeastern Conference released its 2023-24 preseason rankings for men’s basketball.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the SEC is set to have its 2023-24 media days to preview the upcoming season.

The SEC is a basketball conference that is on the rise nationally and continues to make strides in becoming one of the premier leagues in the country.

Below is the projected order of finish for SEC men’s hoops this season!

Ranking the SEC’s men’s basketball teams through 6 weeks

The SEC currently boasts five teams ranked in the AP Poll, with Alabama being the highest at tenth.

The SEC is no longer just the best in football, the conference is now gaining notoriety as containing many of the best college basketball teams, as well!

Through six weeks of action, we’ve seen some very good basketball out of the conference and the SEC currently boasts five teams ranked in the AP Poll with Alabama being the highest at tenth.

Week 6 was unpredictable. Alabama lost on the road to Memphis by a lot and followed it up with a lackluster performance at home against Jacksonville State.

With still a lot of basketball left to play, here are the SEC power rankings going into Week 7.

Auburn picked seventh in preseason basketball media poll

Auburn lost all six top producers from last year’s team that finished 25-6 on the season.

Auburn and Bruce Pearl aren’t getting a lot of respect from the media regarding their shot at winning the SEC championship for the second time in three years.

On Thursday, the preseason media poll was released and the Tigers were picked to finish seventh in the SEC this season. Tennessee are the favorites to win the title.

The Tigers lost all six top producers from last year’s team that went 25-6 before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Five-star point guard Sharife Cooper and 4-star power forward J.T. Thor should make immediate contributions for Pearl’s team while Tyrell Jones, Babatunde Akingbola, Allen Flanigan and Jaylin Williams return with some playing time from the previous season.

Auburn basketball: CBS picks Tigers to finish 7th in SEC

Auburn has a talented but young team for the 2020-21 basketball season.

Bruce Pearl has a talented but young squad on his hands for the 2020-21 basketball season as Auburn lost its six top scorers from a team that went 25-6 and finished second in the SEC regular season.

Over at CBS Sports, they have published their predicted SEC rankings for the season and have the Tigers in the middle of the pack at seventh.

Auburn brings in one of its most hyped recruiting classes with 5-star guard Sharife Cooper leading the way. Four-star forward J.T. Thor is also looked at as a starter from the get go.

From CBS:

All five starters from last season’s team that began the season with 15 straight wins, and finished tied for second in the SEC, are gone — most notably Isaac Okoro, the one-and-done wing who is now expected to be selected in the lottery of the 2020 NBA Draft. So it’s reasonable to assume Auburn will slide in the league standings after finishing in the top four of the SEC in three straight seasons. But Bruce Pearl still has a chance to land in the top half of the league, and compete for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, thanks to a top-10 recruiting class headlined by five-star point guard Sharife Cooper, who pledged to Auburn over Kentucky in September 2019. The ball will be in his hands from Day One. And his most talented teammate might end up being JT Thor, a four-star forward who committed to Auburn in April to give the Tigers a frontcourt piece who should help offset the loss of Austin Wiley.

Here is how the SEC rankings broke down:

1. Tennessee

2. Kentucky

3. LSU
