76 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 76 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 76 jersey number.

Former New England Patriots’ offensive and defensive linemen remain the focal points as we’ve now reached the 76th day in this countdown series for the Patriots’ regular season opener.

Today, this countdown features every Patriots player to wear the No. 76 jersey throughout the franchise’s history.

The most recent player to wear the number was former first-round draft pick and Super Bowl champion Isaiah Wynn. Things fizzled out in New England for the former Georgia standout offensive tackle, and he ended signing a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins in free agency.

However, Wynn isn’t the only former Super Bowl champion on this list. Here’s every Patriots player that wore the No. 76 jersey:

Patriots will have familiar face announcing draft picks on Day 2

A Patriots legend will be announcing the Day 2 picks at the 2023 NFL draft.

The New England Patriots will have a familiar face announcing the team’s second and third-round picks at the 2023 NFL draft. Former offensive lineman Sebastian Vollmer will do the honors with the draft set to take place next week, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss,

Vollmer was drafted by the Patriots in 2009. He played for eight seasons with the team, before hanging up the cleats in 2016. During his playing career, he won two super Bowls and was a second-team All-Pro in 2010. He made the Patriots’ All-2010’s team, as well as the organization’s All-Dynasty team in the process.

Overall, Vollmer played in 88 games, starting 80 of them.

As it stands currently, the Patriots possess 11 draft picks, including one each in the second and third rounds.

New England is looking to find some semblance of success in 2023, and the second and third-round picks could be key for the team’s future.

10 most athletic Patriots’ draft picks of the Bill Belichick era

Who cracked the top-10 most athletic Patriots draft picks? Some names on the list might surprise you.

Whether true or not, New England Patriots fans believe the team typically drafts for old school style players that fit football schemes, while opting to pass on explosive playmaking athletes.

That might have been true when having the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady, leading the offense. The team opted to select more intelligent, passionate players than flashy athletes they needed to develop.

But the truth is the Patriots did in fact draft high-end athletes. Let’s face it, they’re all elite athletes if they’re in the NFL, but in terms of comparing apples to apples (or NFL Players to NFL Players), they did so at a lower clip than most.

RAS, or relative athletic score, has been widely used to quantify just how athletic a player is based on their official combine performances for their position and size. Players are given a 0-10 score, which is derived from other players at the same position throughout history.

The closer a player is to 10.00—and there have been a few—the more “freakish” the athlete. Players like Calvin Johnson, Jordan Davis, and Anthony Richardson are examples of the short list of players since 1987 to score a 10.00 on the RAS scale.

Let’s take a look at the Patriots’ 10 most athletic draft selections in the Bill Belichick era.

David Andrews shows love for the veterans that were key in his development as rookie

David Andrews credited two teammates in particular for helping him develop.

Patriots center David Andrews went undrafted in 2015. Since then, the Georgia native has been a model of consistency. He has been voted a co-captain the last five seasons, and has been instrumental in two Super Bowl victories for the Patriots,

Now in his seventh season in the NFL, Andrews is an accomplished veteran on a talented Patriots offensive line. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, he reflected on which veterans made a strong impression on him. Andrews made sure to show love for two teammates, in particular, who were important for his development.

“Ryan (Wendell) was really hard on me. (Sebastian Vollmer) was really hard on me with my communication and getting stuff communicated to him,” Andrews said, via NESN’s Dakota Randall. “I know they weren’t trying to be jerks; they were trying to get me ready and trying to get me to step and do the best I could do. … I’m grateful for that because they could’ve just, you know, let me pass on by. But they challenged me and challenged me to be the best I could and, at a young age, try to be the best of a leader as I could be.”

Wendell played for the Patriots from 2008-2015. Vollmer played during that same timeframe, beginning his career in 2009, and playing until 2016. Now, Andrews has an opportunity to play that same veteran role on an offensive line that is currently one of the best in football.
