3 things to watch: Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers

The Seattle Seahawks have a chance to hand the San Francisco 49ers their first loss of the 2019 season on Monday night.

The Seattle Seahawks will play the biggest game of the 2019 season, at least so far, on Monday night when they take on the undefeated San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara.

The game has massive playoff implications for both teams, and will help reignite the rivalry between the two NFC west foes.

That alone is enough to make this one of the most compelling games of the entire NFL season, but for Seahawks fans, there are even more reasons to watch tonight.

The team could potentially debut both receiver Josh Gordon and defensive back Quandre Diggs, giving fans their first chance to see them in their new uniforms.

Russell Wilson’s quest for an MVP award continues tonight as well, another storyline that has everyone’s attention at this point in the season.

Seahawks have yet to make a decision on tight end Ed Dickson

The Seattle Seahawks have not decided if veteran tight end Ed Dickson will be activated off the injured reserve in time for Monday’s game.

The Seattle Seahawks are just a few hours away from taking on the undefeated San Francisco 49ers on Monday night football.

In typical Pete Carroll fashion, he is keeping his roster decisions as close to the chest as possible, which includes the potential activation of tight end Ed Dickson off the injured reserve.

“You have to wait and see on that one,” Carroll said on Saturday. “I’m not calling that one yet.”

Dickson was placed on the injured reserve in Week 1, so he is now eligible to return for Seattle. However, the team opted to keep him out last week while he got his legs under him in practice.

Now, with two full weeks of practice under his belt, it appears Dickson is ready to help this team on the field.

However, Seattle has not made room for him on their active roster just yet. The team will need to release someone, likely either receiver John Ursua or backup tight end Jacob Hollister, in order to clear a spot for him.

It seems they are waiting until the last possible moment, perhaps hoping they’ll be able to squeeze whomever they release through waivers and re-sign them to their practice squad.

Regardless, Dickson’s veteran experience and strong run-blocking will be a big boost for the Seahawks, whenever they feel he is ready to contribute on the field.

Even Josh Gordon was surprised to learn Patriots would waive him

“Your time can be short lived anywhere.”

Josh Gordon was just as surprised as NFL fans to learn he’d no longer be a New England Patriot. The Seattle Seahawks receiver addressed his surprising exit from New England.

“But we all know it’s a business,” he said Saturday, via The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta. “Your time can be short lived anywhere. You never know what could happen day to day in the NFL. But that was the decision they made, and I’m glad to be here now, though.”

Gordon joined the Patriots in a trade with the Cleveland Browns during the beginning of the 2018 season. But New England ultimately decided to place him on injured reserve and then on waivers during the 2019 season. The Seahawks claimed him, and Gordon is expected to be active for Monday Night Football.

Gordon played in 17 games for the Patriots in his two seasons, but spent time serving a suspension for violating the NFL’s drug policy. That indefinite suspension has caused him to miss significant time over the past five seasons. This season, he had 20 receptions for 287 yards and a touchdown.

Gordon joins a group of Seahawks wideouts, with Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf. Gordon also moves from one MVP candidate, Tom Brady, to the next, Russell Wilson. New England, meanwhile, has receivers Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu, N’Keal Harry, Phillip Dorsett, Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski.

The Philadelphia Eagles have finished up a much-needed bye week as the team sits at 5-4, with the New England Patriots visiting the Linc this week.

Things seemed cloudy on Sunday with the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, and Green Bay Packers all playing so well. It was assumed that the NFC East might only get one team into the playoffs with Philadelphia or Dallas representing the division in the postseason.

After Sunday’s wild and crazy action, culminating with the Cowboys’ huge loss at home to the Vikings, the NFC is now wide open.

Even with the Eagles Week 10 bye,  six of the eight teams currently ahead of them in the playoff picture all did battle with one another on Sunday, with the Panthers losing to the Packers, the Cowboys losing to the Vikings at home, and the 49ers hosting the Seahawks on Monday Night Football.

The Eagles will host the Patriots this week and Seahawks and the Seahawks next Sunday, before playing four of their remaining five games against teams that are a combined 4-22. After the two home matchups, the Eagles will travel to Miami to face the Dolphins, then they’ll host the Giants, travel to Washington, host Dallas and then finish the regular season on the road at MetLife Stadium against the Giants.

After the crushing loss to the Vikings, Dallas will face the Lions, Patriots, Bills, Eagles, and Rams over the next five weeks in a scenario that will make the Week 16 showdown in Philadelphia for the NFC East title.
