The Seattle Kraken (17-9-0) take on the New Jersey Devils (17-9-2) Friday evening. Puck drop from Prudential Center is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Kraken vs. Devils odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Devils won 2-0 last season

The Kraken have started their road trip off right with wins against the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders. The latest was a 5-2 victory Thursday as +109 dogs. The 20-year-old C Shane Wright scored his 5th goal of the season as G Joey Daccord stopped 27 of 29 fired his way.

The Devs have traded wins and losses over the last 5 games with the latest being a 5-1 win against the New York Rangers Monday. C Jack Hughes put 2 in the back of the net to give him 11 on the season. He has 6 points in the last 2 games.

Kraken at Devils projected goalies

Philipp Grubauer (1-7-0, 3.62 GAA, .862 SV%) vs. Jacob Markstrom (12-6-1, 2.54 GAA, .907 SV%, 1 SO)

Grubauer hasn’t won since Oct. 17, and has lost his last 5 starts. His latest was last Friday in an 8-5 shellacking from the San Jose Sharks. He allowed a ridiculous 7 goals on 26 shots. He faced the Devils once last season, falling in a 2-1 game, where he made 15 saves on 17 shots.

Markstrom was stellar in the Monday victory at the Rangers, stopping 38 of 39. He saved 3.42 goals above expected in that game. This was a rare occurrence, at least of late, as he has allowed 2+ goals in 8 of 10 starts. He was 0-2 with a 3.10 GAA and .882 SV% in 2 starts against the Kraken last year.

Kraken at Devils picks and predictions

Prediction

Devils 4, Kraken 2

Moneyline

The Devils deserve to be massive favorites here. They’ve scored 5 goals in 3 straight games, and the Kraken are up you-know-what’s Creek with Grubauer’s struggles in goal. There’s no bet here, but I like DEVILS OVER 3.5 GOALS (-135).

Puck line/Against the spread

I normally avoid puck lines. They are too hard to predict as they usually require empty-netters. I also hate taking puck lines with minus odds.

I’m taking DEVILS -1.5 (-105), though. The Devils are 7-3-0 in their last 10, and 5 of those victories were by multiple goals.

Over/Under

We’re projecting a push here, and I’m good with the previous takes. I’m tempted to take Jake Hughes Over 1.5 points (+155), but that’s risky.

PASS.

Seattle Kraken at New Jersey Devils odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Seattle Kraken at New Jersey Devils odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Seattle Kraken (29-16-5) visit the New Jersey Devils (33-13-4) Thursday. Face-off from Prudential Center is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Kraken vs. Devils odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Seattle is coming off a 4-0 blowout loss to the New York Islanders Tuesday. That defeat was their 2nd in a row on the road following a 5-2 blowout at the Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 17. Seattle went 3-2 on a 5-game home stand between the road defeats, including a 4-3 OT win against New Jersey on Jan. 19.

The Devils recorded their 2nd straight victory with a 5-4 overtime win vs. the Vancouver Canucks Monday. New Jersey has won 4 of its last 5 games — all in overtime — and 9 of its last 11 overall. Five of the Devils’ last 6 contests have required extra time, with the only OT loss coming to Seattle.

Kraken at Devils projected goalies

Philipp Grubauer (5-8-2, 3.03 GAA, .897 SV%) vs. Vitek Vanecek (22-5-2, 2.34 GAA, .916 SV%, 2 SO)

Grubauer last started in a 3-1 victory vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets Jan. 28th, turning away 24 of 25 shots (.960 SV%).

Kraken at Devils picks and predictions

Prediction

Devils 4, Kraken 3

Moneyline

LEAN DEVILS (-155).

New Jersey should win this game, but Seattle will make it close. The Kraken did get the win in overtime on Jan. 19 when they last met, but I doubt they will sweep New Jersey in their short 2-game season series.

Puck line/Against the spread

BET KRAKEN +1.5 (-180).

Both of these teams have been relatively cold ATS as of late, but Seattle is clearly the better ATS team. Seattle is 30-20 ATS to New Jersey’s 27-23, and the Devils have been shockingly cold ATS of late despite their win streak. New Jersey is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 as it has not been able to close out games in regulation. Expect that to continue in this one as Seattle will make this a close game.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 6.5 (+100).

The Under seems to be the safer bet for Seattle, but for New Jersey, the Over is the overwhelming favorite. The Over is 5-1-1 in the Devils’ last 7 vs. the Pacific Division, is 13-3 in their last 16 games following a win and is 6-0 in their last 6 after scoring 5 or more goals in their previous game. The Over (6.5) also hit when these two teams last met on Jan. 19.

Seattle Kraken at New Jersey Devils odds, picks, and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Seattle Kraken at New Jersey Devils odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Seattle Kraken (1-2-1) and New Jersey Devils (1-0-0) meet Tuesday for a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Below, we look at the Kraken vs. Devils odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

Expansion Seattle is closing out a season-opening road trip. After three competitive games coming out of the chute, the Kraken were set down 6-1 at Philadelphia Monday. Seattle has been undone by an .856 save percentage in 5-on-5 play.

The Devils are playing the second of five straight home games after defeating the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 in overtime Friday. New Jersey rallied for the win after yielding two late goals in the third period. The Devils also won the game from an analytics standpoint, out-chance-ing Chicago and getting the lion’s share of high-danger looks, even in the sideways third period.

Kraken at Devils projected goalies

Chris Driedger (last season: 14-6-3, 2.07 GAA, .927 SV%) vs. Jonathan Bernier (last season: 9-11-1 2.99 GAA, .914 SV%)

Driedger played the back half of Saturday’s loss at Philadelphia, making six stops on seven shots. The 27-year-old is coming off tremendous back-to-back campaigns as the Florida Panthers No. 2 netminder.

Bernier came to Jersey from the Detroit Red Wings in the offseason. The 33-year-old veteran has a history as a somewhat slow starter, but he was solid on opening night against Chicago (17-of-17 in 5-on-5).

Kraken at Devils odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Devils 3, Kraken 2

Money line

The Devils are the lean here. The Kraken could well be a fatigued group looking forward to their return home and inaugural game on Seattle ice Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks.

Consider a partial-unit play or waiting out a price under -145. But NEW JERSEY (-155) is in the right neighborhood.

Against the spread

PASS on the puck line with this one having a significant lean toward the Under and a shade toward the Devils.

Over/Under

BACK THE ALTERNATE TOTAL UNDER 6.5 (-140): there is enough of a chance of a one-sided Devils win with the visitors held under 2 goals. And there is an equal pull on the concept of Driedger keeping the Kraken in a 2-2-type game late.
