USA TODAY plays it safe with Steelers season prediction

USA TODAY has the Steelers finishing last in the AFC North.

USA TODAY released their predictions for the upcoming NFL season on Monday. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, USA TODAY played it safe with the Pittsburgh Steelers and gave them a 9-8 record for the upcoming season.

Winning nine games would ensure that head coach Mike Tomlin keeps his streak of non-losing seasons alive. If the Steelers win nine games in 2024, it would mark 18 in a row for Tomlin. Every season he’s been the head coach.

The bad news is USA TODAY has the Steelers finishing dead last in the AFC North with that same record. The Steelers have never finished last in the AFC North.

The last time the Steelers finished last in any division was all the way back in 1988 when Pittsburgh went 5-11 and finished fourth in the AFC Central.

In these predictions, the Cincinnati Bengals finish first at 11-6 followed by the Cleveland Browns at 10-7 and the Baltimore Ravens at 10-7. The AFC North will be highly contested and these predictions bear that out.

Athlon Sports predicts a disappointing 2022 for Nebraska Football

It’s not a good outlook on the upcoming season.

The 2022 college football season is just months away, with Week 0 fast approaching. With that date getting closer and closer, we’re starting to see predictions for the 2022 season be released. Athlon Sports has released their Big Ten predictions, and they are not that crazy about the Huskers this year. The list cites offensive line and turnover concerns as the reasons the Husker offense is unlikely to see improvement. They believe special teams may still be an issue but did admit that the addition of punter Brian Buschini and kicker Timmy Bleekrode will help. The defense is thought to be the strength of this year’s team, but questions remain about how they will replace three starters in the secondary. In predictions, the one positive for Nebraska is that Defensive End Ochaun Mathis is selected as the Top Defensive Newcomer in the Big Ten.

Now, I can’t entirely agree with the lists of complaints and their selection of where Nebraska will finish in the Big Ten West. I can’t fault them for making it. The Huskers have failed to live up to expectations the last several seasons, plain and simple. Last year and the year before, Nebraska was supposed to take that next leap, and it still hasn’t happened, and the clock is now ticking on the coaching staff.

It’s a make-or-break season for Scott Frost, and if this prediction comes true, he’ll be looking for a new job in 2023. Let’s hope they’re wrong.

Falcons Wire game-by-game predictions for the 2022 season

2022 NFL Schedule: Our Falcons Wire writing staff’s score predictions for all 17 regular season games.

The Atlanta Falcons ended their 2021 campaign with a frustrating loss at home to the New Orleans Saints, but the two NFC South rivals will return to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for a rematch to kick off the 2022 season.

Not only are the Falcons playing one of the tougher schedules in the league this year, they take on both of last year’s Super Bowl participants in the Rams and Bengals.

So, how will the team fare this season? Falcons Wire’s Matt Urben and Deen Worley give their score predictions for each game on Atlanta’s 2022 schedule.

Saints 2022 schedule: Game-by-game predictions, from Week 1 to Week 18

There are a lot of question marks heading into the 2022 NFL season for the New Orleans Saints. They didn’t get the full look last year at Jameis Winston that they wanted, but what they did see was promising. Dennis Allen is taking over as head coach for the first time in New Orleans, Pete Carmichael is in charge of the offense now. No one really knows how it will play out.

The draft and free agency seems to point to the fact that the Saints believe that they will be in the running this season. They’ve brought in accomplished veterans at positions of need and great culture fits in Tyrann Mathieu and Jarvis Landry recently. In the draft they added elite offensive potential in first rounders Chris Olave and Trevor Penning.

Based off of the recent off-season moves and finally having a confirmed schedule, here are predictions for every week in the 2022 season:

Longhorns Wire predicts perfect season for the Oklahoma Sooners

Longhorns Wire of USA TODAY Sports gives the Oklahoma Sooners a flawless 2021 season prediction.

It seems everyone is hopping onto the Oklahoma Sooners bandwagon for the 2021 season. ESPN ranked them as the No. 1 team in their post-spring power rankings. The consensus rankings have them as the No. 2 team in the country. However, an unlikely source is predicting a perfect run through the schedule.

USA TODAY Sports’ Longhorns Wire predicted every Big 12 team’s record and gave OU a flawless season.

Once again, Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners are the favorites to bring back the Big 12 crown. This season, however, there will be more than just conference championship hopes for the Sooners. Oklahoma is looking to make another College Football Playoff and not get blown out by an SEC program again. National championship buzz is palpable in Norman.

Our colleagues have the Oklahoma Sooners winning all 12 games, while they predicted a 9-3 mark for the Texas Longhorns. Their three losses coming to Texas Christian, Oklahoma, and Iowa State. Based on their predictions, the Longhorns, Horned Frogs and Oklahoma State Cowboys would all tie with 9-3 records and setting up a rematch in the Big 12 Championship game with Oklahoma once again.

A perfect run through the schedule and a victory over the Iowa State Cyclones in this scenario would put them in the College Football Playoffs once again.
