Seahawks free safety Quandre Diggs has had a magnificent 2021 season. It appears it’s going to end in tragedy, though.

Seahawks free safety Quandre Diggs has had a magnificent 2021 season. It appears it’s going to end in tragedy, though. Diggs just went down in the fourth quarter of his team’s final game of the year against the Cardinals with what appears to be a major leg injury.

We don’t know the nature of the injury yet but it says everything you need to know that his teammate, cornerback D.J. Reed was visibly upset, throwing his helmet once he saw how bad it was.

Video:

On the broadcast, Diggs was in tears as he was being carted off the field.

Gut-wrenching.

Jamal Adams shares inspirational words, photos from shoulder rehab

Jamal Adams shares inspirational words, photos from shoulder rehab

The Seahawks will be finishing out the 2021 season without a couple of crucial pieces from their secondary. Rookie cornerback Tre Brown is done for the year due to a knee injury that required surgery. Star strong safety Jamal Adams is in the same boat after he re-aggravated his shoulder injury from last year. He also underwent surgery recently.

We hadn’t heard anything from Adams since then until today, when he shared some inspirational words and a few photos from his rehab work on Twitter.

Adams has played 24 games in a Seattle uniform since coming over in the highly-regrettable trade with the Jets. He’s totaled 170 tackles (including 15 for a loss), 16 quarterback hits, two interceptions, eight passes defensed and 9.5 sacks – although all of them came during the 2020 season.

The trade to get him may have been indefensible, but the Seahawks defense still got a rare and unique talent. Here’s to hoping they can find new ways to take advantage of his pass-rushing skills while hiding his occasional lapses in coverage more effectively next year.

Pete Carroll: Seahawks RB Chris Carson had surgery on his neck

The latest to join the club is Seattle’s starting running back, Chris Carson.

It speaks to how the Seahawks’ season has gone that three players have undergone surgery in only a matter of days. Strong safety Jamal Adams re-aggravated his shoulder injury against the 49ers and is done for the season after having surgery. Defensive back Gavin Heslop was elevated from the practice squad to take Adams’ spot on the 53-man roster, but he broke his leg against the Texans.

The latest to join the club is Seattle’s starting running back, Chris Carson. According to head coach Pete Carroll, Carson underwent surgery on his neck and is positive about the results and outlook.

Carson hasn’t been on the field since Week 4 against the 49ers. He went on injured reserve the following week along with Russell Wilson. Carson was designated to return in early November but his neck did not respond well to practice and he was never activated from the injured reserve list.

Carson has one year left before his contract voids in 2023. His base salary for next season will be $4,500,000. In the event that Carson can’t return to form, Seattle could cut him after June 1 and save $4,925,000.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says Jamal Adams had surgery on his shoulder

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says Jamal Adams had surgery on his shoulder

This season just keeps getting worse. The latest misfortune to befall these 2021 Seahawks is the season-ending injury for safety Jamal Adams, the second time he’s hurt the same shoulder in as many years.

Coach Pete Carroll told reporters today that Adams has undergone surgery and steps have been taken to prevent this from happening again.

Adams played 12 games for Seattle this year. His play at times drew crticism on social media, especially early in the season. However, Adams turned his game around – not coincidentally swinging up as part of a larger resurgence by the defense – after Russell Wilson’s finger injury in Week 5. He had been performing at a high level from week to week, especially in coverage where he’s so often been criticized.

It’s fair to question whether the Seahawks used Adams to the best of his abilities this year, but unfair to question his commitment. Adams posted a photo on his Instagram page earlier today and he’s obviously heartbroken by this latest development.

Adams is expected to make a full recovery and return next season. He has four years remaining on the contract extension he signed a few months ago.

Seahawks S Quandre Diggs shares show of support for injured Jamal Adams

Even when they win they lose.

This is starting to feel like a cursed season for the Seahawks (4-8). Even when they win they lose, as in Sunday’s 30-23 victory over the 49ers that saw several key players get injured. That list includes strong safety Jamal Adams, the most important defensive piece on the roster outside of Bobby Wagner. Today, we learned that Adams has to undergo season-ending surgery on the shoulder that he hurt this week – the same shoulder that limited him last year.

It’s an extremely unfortunate development for a unit that’s rounded into shape and has become one of the top scoring defenses in the NFL despite facing the toughest offensive schedule. Free safety Quandre Diggs predicts that Adams will bounce back.

Say what you want about the trade that brought him here, but together  Adams and Diggs are arguably the top safety duo in the league and form a solid foundation to build on.

For now, Ryan Neal will step in and start in Adams’ place. While he hasn’t gotten a ton of playing time, Neal has had some special moments this season. For what it’s worth he has earned strong grades from Pro Football Focus for his run defense and pass rushing, yet only a 55.2 mark in coverage.

Adams has a similar dynamic going on but he’s on another level as far as how disruptive he can be. Truth is, it’s impossible for any one player in the NFL to replace what Adams brings to the table as a unique type of defender.

Seahawks RB Chris Carson to have season-ending surgery

The Seahawks are losing the best pure rusher on their roster for the remainder of the season.

The Seahawks are losing the best pure rusher on their roster for the remainder of the season.

According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, starting running back Chris Carson is expected to have season-ending surgery on his neck.

Carson was designated for return to practice recently, but he’s still technically on the team’s IR list since he hasn’t been activated. And so, Carson’s 2021 season ends with 232 yards and three touchdowns on 54 attempts.

Coach Pete Carroll just told reporters they’re confident he’ll be back next year.

Former first-round pick Rashaad Penny began the season as the No. 2 running back on the team’s depth chart. However, his year has been a familiar disappointing story as he’s missed six of nine games and has only averaged 1.6 yards per rush.

Penny has been supplanted by Alex Collins, who broke a long streak of games without a 100-yard rusher back in Week 6 but has been hampered by a groin injury ever since. Collins did not participate in practice on Thursday.

Russell Wilson rehabbed 19 hours a day to return vs. Packers

Watch Ian Rapoport at NFL Network detail what he went through to rehab and return for this matchup.

Russell Wilson was determined to make his stay on the Seahawks IR list as short as possible. Wilson met that goal, as he was activated yesterday and will start in today’s huge game against the Packers in Green Bay.

Seahawks designate RB Chris Carson for return to practice

The Seattle Seahawks just announced they have designated starting running back Chris Carson for return to practice.

The Seattle Seahawks just announced they have designated starting running back Chris Carson for return to practice.

Carson has been on the injured reserve list the last few weeks due to what’s been called a “long-term” neck injury by coach Pete Carroll. Seattle’s run game has generally been slow with Carson sidelined, with the exception of a 100-yard outburst from Alex Collins against the Steelers. Carroll told reporters on Monday that he expects Carson to return practice Wednesday.

Franchise quarterback Russell Wilson, rookie wide receiver Dee Eskridge and cornerback Nigel Warrior have also been designated for return this week. We’ll learn more when the first injury report comes out later today.

Russell Wilson shares workout video, including throws with injured hand

By the looks of it, Wilson is getting closer to returning every day.

Russell Wilson remains on the Seahawks’ injured reserve list after hurting his throwing hand against the Rams Week 5. Once the team returns from their bye week, Wilson will be eligible to return to the active roster. That immediate return has been the goal all along, but Pete Carroll says it’s going to be “really close.

By the looks of it, Wilson is getting closer to returning every day. He recently had the pin removed from his surgically-repaired right middle finger and on Wednesday he shared a few clips on his Instagram page of his workouts, including a few indoor throws.

Russell Wilson shares a notable injury update: ‘No more pin’

Before his injury, Wilson was throwing the ball at a very high level.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told reporters only moments ago that he had no update on Russell Wilson’s finger or when he would get the pins out.

Well, the pin is out and Wilson is the one who broke the story on Twitter.

Wilson has missed the last three games for the Seahawks since hurting his throwing hand against the Rams. Before his injury, Wilson was throwing the ball at a very high level. His 125.3 passer rating is still the highest for any QB this season.
