Five-star Ohio State basketball target Scotty Middleton to make college choice soon

This would be a huge win for Chris Holtmann and company. #GoBucks

Ohio State basketball head coach Chris Holtmann has done well for himself on the recruiting trail since joining the program, but if we’re being honest, it hasn’t been at the same level as when Thad Matta was stomping around the court. In fact, Holtmann has yet to land a 5-star prospect during his time at OSU.

However, that could all change when 2023 small forward Scotty Middleton makes his college choice. According to the ESPN 100, Middleton is ranked as the No. 18 overall prospect in the recruiting cycle, and he is expected to choose between the Buckeyes, Seton Hall, and UConn.

At 6-foot, 6-inches, and out of Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita, Kansas, Middleton could be an immediate impact player to continue to build on last season’s top ten recruiting class.

And we shouldn’t have to wait long. Middleton is expected to announce his decision on August 6.

We’ll obviously keep an eye on the news when it hits. Needless to say, it would be a huge commitment for a class that is already one of the best in the Big Ten.

Michigan State basketball offers 2023 4-star small forward Scotty Middleton

Michigan State has offered a top-50 player in the 2023 class out of Sunrise Christian Academy

Michigan State basketball has entered their hat in the ring for the recruitment of Scotty Middleton, a top-50 prospect and 4-star small forward out of Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita, Kansas.

If Sunrise Christian Academy sounds familiar, it’s because Spartan alum Tum Tum Nairn went there and currently coaches their post-graduate team, and current Spartan Malik Hall also attended Sunrise Christian.

Middleton is the No. 8 ranked small forward in his class by 247Sports and their No. 42 ranked player overall for his class.

Four star forward has Ohio State basketball in top five

So, you’re saying there’s a chance? #GoBucks

Of course, we’re always following the Ohio State football recruiting news, but occasionally we also get a nugget to follow with the Ohio State basketball program. That appears to be the case Thursday with 2023 four-star forward Scotty Middleton’s announcement of his top five schools.

That’s because the 6-foot-6-inch, 180-pounder out of Wichita, Kansas, included Ohio State in his announcement on his Twitter account. according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Middleton is ranked as the No. 11 shooting forward and 51st overall prospect in the country.

Also included in Middleton’s top five are Kansas, UConn, Seton Hall, and Texas A&M. It’s too early to declare a leader, but you have to figure the Jayhawks might have the edge as the home state’s blue blood.

Ohio State’s 2023 class currently includes two verbal commitments with four-star guard George Washington II and three-star center Austin Parks already giving their pledge. There’s probably some distance between here and any commitment with Middleton, but if any further news becomes available, we’ll have it.

Four-star small forward to visit Ohio State basketball soon

We’ll have to keep an eye on how this recruitment goes.

It appears as though four-star 2023 small forward, Scotty Middleton, will be in visiting Chris Holtmann and the Ohio State campus soon.

Out of Sunrise Christian in Wichita, Kansas, the 6-foot, 6-inch Middleton is ranked as the No. 10 shooting forward and 50th overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle. There does not seem to be a favorite to land Middleton’s services at this moment, but he’s been offered a scholarship by schools like Kansas, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Georgia, Penn State, and others.

One would assume — maybe not rightly so — that a team like Kansas would have a leg up on his recruitment with it being a blue-blood in his home state.

We’ll keep an eye on how this journey goes as Middleton continues to step through the recruiting process. For now, put it in your back pocket until we hear more.
