Insane story could create huge transfer portal opportunity for Lincoln Riley, USC

One of the wildest stories in the history of the coaching carousel could help #USC in a big way. We’ll explain this amazing turn of events.

And you thought the 2021 coaching carousel was crazy. Wait until you hear about the most remarkable coaching carousel story of all time, more remarkable than Lincoln Riley going to USC and Brian Kelly leaving Notre Dame for LSU on back-to-back days. This one tops them both. What’s more: It could help Riley and USC in a very big way.

Imagine that a coach who had already flirted with another program a few years ago doggedly tries to remain on the job at School A. He gets onto the hot seat but coaches his way out of it.

Then he bails.

More than that, he not only bails; he goes to the school which is playing School A in a bowl game in just 12 days. He coaches School A on Nov. 26. He then leaves for School B on Dec. 5, just before coaching in a bowl game between School A and School B on Dec. 17.

That could never, ever happen … or at least, not until December of 2022. It really has happened. Again, USC could benefit.

We’ll lay out this true story below, and what it might mean for the Trojans and Lincoln Riley:

Thanks to eight Wake Forest turnovers, Louisville destroyed the No. 10 Deacons 48-21 Saturday afternoon.

After the game, head coach Scott Satterfield called out the ACC Network for not giving the Cards enough love last week after their win vs. Pitt.

With the win, Louisville moved to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the ACC on the season. The Cards travel to Death Valley to face the Tigers on Nov. 12.

Which college football coaches are joining Scott Frost on the hot seat

Who do you think will be joining Scott Frost on the hot seat in 2022?

We’ve talked before about the fact that Nebraska head football coach Scott Frost is on the hot seat. It’s no surprise to anyone. A 15-29 overall record and zero bowl games in four seasons will and should put you on the hot seat. So who are the other coaches that will join Frost with tenuous job security? ESPN senior writer Adam Rittenberg has put together a list highlighting the additional Power 5 coaches that need to win in 2022, or they could be looking for a new job. I have to say that I agree with almost every selection on this list. Scroll below and let us know what you think of the hot seat coaches heading into 2022.

Nick Saban fires back at transfer portal tampering allegations

Louisville Football HC hinted at tampering allegations regarding Alabama landing Tyler Harrell via the transfer portal. Nick Saban responds.

Last week, Louisville head football coach Scott Satterfield made claims that Nick Saban and Alabama tampered to land former Louisville wide receiver [autotag]Tyler Harrell[/autotag].

Satterfield felt that despite Harrell being in the portal ten days before the Tide landed his commitment, they must have done something to urge him in the direction of Tuscaloosa. Regardless, there is essentially no way to prove it even if it had occurred.

Coach Saban didn’t like that comment and fired back today by saying, “We don’t tamper with anybody.” Saban is likely telling the truth as Alabama doesn’t have to meddle in other teams affairs to garnish interest. The Crimson Tide speaks for itself.

Despite all of the comments, Harrell is Alabama bound and looks to make an immediate impact.

Louisville HC thinks Alabama tampered to land transfer WR Tyler Harrell

Strong accusations from the Louisville head coach regarding Tyler Harrell transferring to Alabama.

On April 22, Alabama landed one of their biggest commitments of this off-season in former Louisville wide receiver [autotag]Tyler Harrell[/autotag]. The Crimson Tide landed Harrell after he had just entered the portal ten days prior on April 12, which raised the eyebrow of Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield.

Satterfield believes that tampering by Alabama occurred in order to land Harrell, however, he admits there is no real way to prove his theory. With Harrell committing ten days after entering the portal, it looks much less suspicious than had he committed the following day.

Satterfield does not believe this is the first time it has happened to one of his players, stating in an interview with 247Sports, “last year, we had a few guys that jumped into the portal and the next day they’re announcing where they’re going. You can look at that and know that something went on before they were in the portal.”

In college athletics, you are not allowed to communicate with a student-athlete enrolled at another NCAA school before they have entered the portal. But, as a student athlete it is not unreasonable to think that some may want some sort of certainty before entering the portal and entering the vast unknown.

It is difficult to see where the line can be drawn though, as Pittsburgh transfer receiver Jordan Addison was linked to USC with an NIL deal at the exact same time news broke that he was considering leaving Pittsburgh. The governing body of college athletics surely has their hands full as this is only the beginning.

ACC Atlantic coach thinks his team is as good as any in the division

This ACC Atlantic Division coach is confident in his football team heading into the 2022 season.

Despite his team’s 6-7 record last season, including a 4-4 mark in ACC play, Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield said during an appearance on Packer and Durham on ACC Network this week that he feels Louisville has “just as good a team as any” in the Atlantic Division, including Wake Forest, NC State, Boston College, Florida State and Clemson, which the Cardinals lost to, 30-24, at Cardinal Stadium last season.

You can read what Mark Packer had to say about the ACC Atlantic Division on Packer and Durham this week and Satterfield’s response below:

Packer: “You don’t worry about noise or hype. That’s for us idiots in the media. But I look at the Atlantic Division in the ACC for ’22, and Clemson’s Clemson, right. They do their thing. Wake’s got everybody and their brother back. Dave Clawson, of course, what he did last year, winning the division. Dave Doeren’s got a thousand guys back. NC State, I’ve seen them as high as the top 10. Those are three. And then I love what Hafley’s doing at BC. Sounds like you are loaded and just waiting in the weeds. Norvell’s doing his thing at Florida State. I mean, the Atlantic Division of the ACC … and I know they will have the national narrative of nobody who pays attention to the conference, ‘it’s Clemson, everybody else,’ which is just stupid. I really sense that the Atlantic Division this upcoming season has a chance to be filthy good. I mean, really, incredibly competitive.”

Satterfield: “Yeah, I agree. You start mentioning those teams, and you’re like, ‘Well, that’s true, yeah, wow.’ I mean, there’s a lot of good players coming back on our side, which is unfortunate. We’re sitting in that side and there’s a lot of good players and a lot of good coaches. You start thinking, NC State will be as talented as any team out there, with a ton of experience and won a lot of games last year. For us, fortunately, NC State comes to Louisville. Wake Forest comes here. We do have to go down to Clemson, which we played them down to the wire last year, which I think gave our club a lot of confidence. BC’s a great program. It’s interesting. Florida State is a good program. They’re coming up here as well. We play them early, third game.

“So, it’s going to be fun to watch, and I feel like we’ve got just as good a team as any of those teams you just mentioned. We’ll be right there, and really it’s going to come down to who’s going to show up on those days you play, who’s the most hungry and who’s got a great plan and who’s going to show up to go out and win that day. But it’s going to be very, very competitive, particularly in our side of the conference.”

Louisville HC talks Clemson, Uiagalelei, what win over Tigers would mean for Cardinals

Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield met with the media this week to preview Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. showdown against Clemson at Cardinal Stadium. The Cardinals enter the contest with a 4-4 record (2-3 ACC), while the Tigers are 5-3 (4-2). “We’re …

“We’re playing a team that’s played for and won many national championships, and a lot of tradition there,” Satterfield said. “They’re used to winning. This year, have not done as well as they’ve done in the past. They’re so dominant the last seven, eight years, and this year, a lot of close games. They’ve lost a few. They played a Georgia team — which everybody thinks Georgia is one of the top teams in the country and has been playing that way — 10-3. And then a lot of close games.”

Clemson ranks first in the ACC and third nationally in scoring defense (15.3 points per game allowed), while the Tigers are last in the conference and 113th nationally in scoring offense (21.3 points per game) going into the matchup against Satterfield’s Cardinals.

“Offensively, they’ve not put up the numbers they’ve been used to putting up,” Satterfield said. “A lot of new players on that side of the ball. Defensively, they’re still one of the best defenses in the country. I think they’re number three in the country in scoring defense. They’ve had a lot of injuries and still rank really high defensively, holding teams in single digits to teens. And I think as you watch the film, very impressive on that side of the ball. Number 47 (linebacker James Skalski) has played a lot of football. He’s the quarterback of the defense. He could probably call the defenses. He knows it so well, and he’s still playing and still playing at a high level. I think their D-line’s impressive. They did have some injuries there, but they still have some great players that cause havoc up front. The biggest thing that they do well on their defense is just the multiple things they do on defense and the way they play it.

“So, we’re excited about the opportunity of hosting these guys and playing at 7:30, and look forward to having a great crowd here, a crowd that we can feed off of, and this weekend we’ll need it.”

Satterfield also spoke about Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei, who has completed 55.7 percent of his passes for 1,291 yards and five touchdowns with six interceptions in eight games as a sophomore this season.

“He’s got as good an arm as anybody in the country,” Satterfield said. “Sometimes they have not been able to hit some of those throws, but he certainly can make them because every game, he’s made some incredible throws. So, we’ve got to be able to mix it up and try to put a little bit of doubt or confusion in the quarterback’s head.”

As Satterfield mentioned in his opening statement, Clemson hasn’t been the dominant force this season that it has been accustomed to being in the ACC and on a national level while winning each of the last six ACC Championships to go with six straight College Football Playoff appearances, four appearances in the national championship game since 2015 and two national titles over that span.

But Satterfield knows that Clemson is still Clemson, and he was asked what it would mean for his program to get a win over one of college football’s marquee brands on Saturday.

“It’d be awesome to get a win,” he said. “A team, as I mentioned, that’s won national championships, played for it a bunch of times and basically just run through the ACC over the last seven or eight years. They have not lost very many games, and to be able to beat a team like that this year would be incredible. It’d be great for our program, it’d be great for our guys.

“They’re a brand that everybody knows throughout the country, and if it comes across the ticker that Louisville won the game, then that’s huge in a lot of aspects – not only in just for the wins purposes, but also for the program moving forward when you talk about recruiting and all of the aspects part of the program. So, yeah, obviously it’d be a huge win for us.”

Notre Dame vs. Louisville – short but sweet series history

Notre Dame and Louisville have only ever played twice in football with each winning once. Take a quick look back at the series now!

Notre Dame and Louisville will square off on Saturday for just the third time ever, with each team winning one of the previous meetings.

Oddly enough, the road team has won the two previous meetings with Louisville knocking off Notre Dame in mid-Novmeber back in 2014 and Notre Dame starting the season with a win at Louisville to open the 2019 season.

Credit: Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

In 2014 it was running back Brandon Radcliff helping lead the way for Louisville as he ran for 136 yards and a touchdown in the 31-28 Louisville victory.

Tarean Folston ran for a touchdown and 134 yards for Notre Dame while Will Fuller hauled in 109 yards and a touchdown but a late 32 yard field goal attempt by Kyle Brindza was untrue as the Cardinals held on to win the first meeting ever between the two programs.

2019:

The two would meet again to start the 2019 season on Labor Day as the Irish came in fresh off their first ever College Football Playoff appearance while Louisville had their first showing under new head coach Scott Satterfield.

Louisville’s offense got off to a hot start, matching Notre Dame blow-for-blow early but the Irish defense came alive as the game went on, holding Louisville to just three points after the first quarter that night.

Tony Jones helped lead the Notre Dame offense with 110 yards and a score while Ian Book added 81 yards on the ground and a score.  Jahmir Smith scored twice in the Irish victory despite only getting eight touches on the day.

The star of the day for the Louisville offense will be back for Louisville on Saturday, as running back Javin Hawkins rushed for a game-high 122 while averaging more than six yards per carry.

Satterfield: ACC plans to move forward regardless of others

With reports of the Big Ten cancelling the 2020 fall football season, it seems as if one ACC coach is confident his conference will play.

On a day where we have seen legit rumors of the Big Ten cancelling their fall football season, there was some potential good news in regards to the Irish and the ACC’s.

Satterfield is Scott Satterfield, the head coach of the Louisville Cardinals. Yes, he might think that the ACC will continue to charge on to a season in 2020, but the reality is that it is looking more and more like a full on cancellation of the season.

The face of the ACC players, Clemson’s quarterback Trevor Lawrence, along with Ohio State’s Justin Fields expressed their willingness to get on the field this year and compete. Both of them tweeted out the #Weareunited #Wewanttoplay last evening.

This all may end up being a moot point, as we all continue a wait-and-see approach to what will ultimately happen this fall. We hope there will be football, but continue to be prepared to be very lonely on Saturday’s in the coming months.
