This game was relocated from the Bay Area to Las Vegas due to COVID-19 restrictions in the Santa Clara County, Calif., with San Jose State the designated home team The Spartans were 3-0 SU/2-0-1 ATS in three home games in San Jose this season.
San Jose State averages 270.0 passing yards per game to rank 33rd in the nation, and 30.4 points per game. QB Nick Starkel has thrown for 1,147 passing yards with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions.

SAN JOSE STATE (-115) is the play here, although this will be a back-and-forth affair with plenty of offense. Still, picking a straight-up winner rather than playing the spread will cause a little less stress.

Against the spread (ATS)

SAN JOSE STATE -1 (-110) is not as attractive as the money line in what should be a high-scoring, close affair. Starkel and Nevada QB Carson Strong will put on an aerial show in Vegas. This game might come down to a late field goal to decide a winner. I’d actually rather just play the money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 58.5 (-110) is the way to go, even if San Jose State is allowing just 17.0 PPG this season. The Spartans will be out of their element a little bit, adjusting to the digs in Vegas. Plus, facing Strong is no walk in the park, regardless of how good the defense has been. The Nevada play-caller is an NFL-caliber quarterback who will give San Jose State fits.

San Jose State has played four games and won four games, going 3-0-1 ATS with three Under results. The Spartans also won their only road game at San Diego State on Nov. 6, winning outright as 10-point underdogs, 28-17.
Boise State is coming off a 40-32 road victory against Hawaii. The offense has been hitting on all cylinders, sans a blowout 51-17 loss at home to BYU on Nov. 6. The Broncos have scored 40 or more points in four of five outings, and the Over is a perfect 5-0 so far for Boise State.
The Spartans are 9-1-1 ATS in their past 11 on the road as underdogs, while posting an impressive 15-5-2 ATS mark in the past 22 conference games. The Broncos are 4-1 ATS in the past five on the Smurf Turf, while going 4-0 ATS in their past four as home favorites.

Money line (ML)

Boise State (-435) was outclassed by BYU earlier in the month, but it has racked up 92 total points on offense in the past two outings. The Broncos are healthier, and that’s been the difference.

Against the spread (ATS)

SAN JOSE STATE +12 (-110) catching double digits from Boise State seems a bit much. Yes, the Spartans do not have the recent run of success like the Broncos, but San Jose State has been very powerful on offense, registering 258.2 passing yards per game with 40.0 points per game. If the Spartans can bring the effort on defense, they have the chance to even spring the outright upset.

Over/Under (O/U)

San Jose State is very much a pass-first offense. Through two games, the Spartans rank fifth in the nation in passing yards per game (353.5) and 100th nationally in rushing yards per contest (89.2). Both figures are in line with last year’s full-season numbers. In 2020, Arkansas transfer QB Nick Starkel has stepped in as SJSU’s new signal-caller, and the results have been stellar: 73.7% completion percentage, 693 yards passing, 7 touchdowns and one interception.
San Diego State makes its bones on defense. The Aztecs ranked fifth in the nation a year ago, yielding just 287.8 yards per game. Through two games this fall, SDSU has allowed just 200.5 YPG. The Aztecs have a new head coach (Brady Hoke) and a new defensive coordinator (Kurt Mattix) in 2020, but the defense returns 8 of 11 starters.
The Aztecs are 7-0 straight up and 6-1 against the spread over the last seven games in this series. San Diego took last year’s meeting (Oct. 19) by a score of 27-17. San Jose State has scored just 45 points over the last five games combined.

San Diego State hasn’t exactly played stifling defenses in averaging 36 points per game over its first two contests, but the Aztecs offense has been encouraging.
