San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (2-2) welcome the San Antonio Spurs (3-1) to Target Center Wednesday. Tip is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Spurs vs. Timberwolves odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Timberwolves come into this game following a 115-106 home loss to the Spurs as 8-point favorites Monday. Minnesota won 116-106 at the Oklahoma City Thunder Sunday in its previous outing.

Minnesota is led by C Karl-Anthony Towns and G Anthony Edwards. The two stars are averaging 20.3 points and 20 points per game on 41% and 43.2% shooting, respectively.

San Antonio’s victory Monday saw 6 players score in double figures, with G Devin Vassell leading the way with 23 points. F Keldon Johnson leads the team in scoring this season with 20.5 points per game and tallied 18 in the win.

The Spurs had low expectations coming into the season, but the play of Vassell and Johnson along with G Tre Jones has impressed and has the team tied for the 2nd-best record in the Western Conference in the early going.

Spurs at Timberwolves picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 122, Spurs 109

Moneyline

PASS.

The Timberwolves (-410) should be wanting some revenge, and I think they get it. But, there’s no value in backing them with such steep odds. With Vassell more than likely out, I’d shy away from backing the upset as well.

Against the spread

BET TIMBERWOLVES -8.5 (-117).

The Spurs have listed one of their best offensive weapons and a top defensive weapon as doubtful. While Vassell isn’t a household name, he will be soon, and his impact makes the Wolves a solid play.

Couple that with the Wolves rank 8th in offensive rebounding rate and the Spurs 25th in defensive rebounding, and Minnesota should have its way on the glass.

Despite being 3-1, the Spurs have a negative net rating. They haven’t played as well as their record shows and are down a vital part of what they do on both ends of the court. Back Minnesota to cover here.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 231.5 (-110).

If there is a lean here, it is to the Under.

These teams are 14th and 18th in offensive rating, and with the Wolves having added a Defensive Player of the Year candidate in C Rudy Gobert, they should be able to be better on that side of the court.

Minnesota has a high-octane offense which has resulted in some high totals, but it is just 1-3 O/U this season.

San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (2-1) welcome the San Antonio Spurs (2-1) to Target Center Monday. Tip is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Spurs vs. Timberwolves odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Timberwolves are on the 2nd night of a back-to-back, having taken down the Thunder 116-106 on Sunday night. They’ve beaten Oklahoma City  twice and lost to the Utah Jazz in overtime.

Minnesota is led by F Anthony Edwards who is averaging 23.7 points per game and shooting 49% from the field. New C Rudy Gobert is averaging a team-high 18 rebounds.

The Spurs entered the season with relatively low expectations, but they are on a 2-game winning streak and won as 13.5-point underdogs at Philadelphia on Saturday.

Five players on the Spurs average double figures with F Keldon Johnson leading the way. He averages 21.3 points per game and is shooting an efficient 47% from the field.

Spurs at Timberwolves picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 123, Spurs 115

Moneyline

PASS.

I said the Spurs moneyline was worth a look against the Sixers, and given their balanced scoring, they are again something to consider. Given the points they are given on the road, I’d rather play the spread.

Against the spread

BET SPURS +8.5 (-115).

The Spurs have several up-and-coming prospects like G Devin Vassell.

That has led them to have the 9th-best offensive rating in the NBA. They also have the 13th-best offensive rebounding rate which compares well to the Timberwolves 22nd-best defensive rebounding rate.

San Antonio’s extra efforts and efficient offense should help it keep pace with the T-wolves. Minnesota ranks outside the top 10 in offensive and defensive rating.

While it does sit 10th in net rating as it is solid on both sides of the ball, the Spurs have the grit and efficiency to keep this within single digits.

Over/Under

BET OVER 234.5 (-110).

Both teams are good at crashing the glass offensively, and neither is great at keeping opponents off it defensively.

Couple that with low turnover rates and both teams also ranking in the top 10 in pace, and this has all the makings of a high-scoring battle. San Antonio is 2-1 O/U while Minnesota is 1-2 O/U this season.

San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Antonio Spurs (4-10) travel to Target Center Thursday to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves (5-9). Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Spurs at Timberwolves odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

This has not been the season everyone was expecting from the Spurs. They’ve lost four of their last five, dropping games to the Oklahoma City Thunder and both Los Angeles teams.

Led by star G Dejounte Murray, who is averaging a career-high 18.9 points per game, the Spurs have been clearly missing starting C Jakob Poeltl who will again miss this game.

As for the Timberwolves, they’ll look to get on the right side of winning as well. While they defeated the Kings at home on Wednesday night, they have lost four of their last six.

The Wolves are led by second-year G Anthony Edwards and C Karl-Anthony Towns. The two stars and G D’Angelo Russell were supposed to make a three-headed monster, capable of making the playoffs.

That hasn’t been seen yet. That said, the Wolves will enter as favorites on Thursday evening.

Spurs at Timberwolves odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 111, Spurs 104

Money line

PASS on the money line with a “lean” to the Wolves. I just prefer the points in this instance, especially in the NBA.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the TIMBERWOLVES -2.5 (-108) as, while sporadic in his production, Edwards is starting to ascend into superstardom. He’s averaging 23.1 points per game and even dropped 48 on the best defense in the league.

Edwards’s ascension has been great to see, but it’s really the rebounding that will play a factor in this game. The Wolves are a top-three offensive rebounding team while the Spurs rank 19th in defensive rebounding rate.

Now, this is only a lean as the Spurs have the fifth-best turnover rate and the Wolves have the 29th best, so there’s a drastic difference there. That said, with the absence of Poeltl, I think the rebounding should be more of a factor.

The Spurs are 2-5 without Poeltl, and their poor rebounding has taken a hit without him. They have the 28th-best rebounding rate over the last seven games.

That, and being on the road, should make all the difference in this one.

Over/Under

BET on the UNDER 218.5 (-107) as this seems like a high total for two teams that are neither in the top 10 in the league in points per game.

These two teams do rank seventh and ninth in pace, but the Wolves turn the ball over too much and the Spurs do the opposite. The Spurs are a well-coached team, and that should help their composure in transition.

Both teams rank in the bottom half of the league in true shooting percentage. While Minnesota can get the boards, they need many of them to actually put significant points on the board.

The Wolves haven’t hit 110 points in four straight games and the Spurs have hit just once in their last six. This is a high total, and I’d bet on the two teams to not quite get there.

San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The San Antonio Spurs (5-4) and Minnesota Timberwolves (2-7) square off in the second half of a back-to-back Sunday at Target Center. Game 2 tips off at 8 p.m. ET following the Spurs’ 125-122 overtime win Saturday. Below, we analyze the Spurs-Timberwolves NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Spurs trailed by 2 points heading into the fourth quarter of Saturday’s contest but pulled even and then outscored the T-Wolves 12-9 in the extra session for their third straight win. Minnesota lost a seventh straight game.

The Timberwolves shot better from field-goal and 3-point range and won the rebounding battle. It was Minnesota’s 16 turnovers and San Antonio’s 24 points off of those turnovers that was the biggest difference. The Spurs had 8 steals as a team to just one for the ‘Wolves.

Spurs at Timberwolves: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Spurs 120, Timberwolves 111

Money line (ML)

The SPURS (-160) are favored once again against the mightily struggling Timberwolves. It was Minnesota that exceeded expectations while forcing overtime Saturday, as the T-Wolves hit on 15 of 30 3-point attempts but average just 33.7% from distance as a team for the season. The Spurs’ 13-for-32 performance Saturday was much more in line with their 40.5% season average.

Minnesota had the edge in rebounding, points in the paint and second-chance points Saturday, but San Antonio dominated in fast-break points and points off turnovers. The Spurs commit the fewest turnovers per game in the NBA and their ball control is the consistent advantage we can bank on for the second half of the back-to-back.

Against the spread (ATS)

Minnesota covered this same spread Saturday but improved to just 4-5 ATS for the season. San Antonio is 6-3 ATS. Saturday was the Spurs’ first time being favored.

Back the SPURS -3.5 (-110) to win by at least 4 points and even the season series. The expected dropoff in the Timberwolves’ 3-point shooting will widen the gap.

Over/Under (O/U)

Seven of the last eight Spurs-Timberwolves matchups played to the Over and Saturday’s 125-122 final score topped the 235.5-point projection by 11.5 points, though it took overtime to get there and that was with a 3-point shooting anomaly from the hosts.

Take the UNDER 233.5 (-110) even with the line dropping 2 points from Saturday’s projection. Both teams have played just one set of back-to-backs so far, but they each hit the Under in the second game, with San Antonio falling 35 points shy of the line in a 98-95 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans (Dec. 27) following a 119-114 win over the Toronto Raptors.

San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The San Antonio Spurs (4-4) visit the Minnesota Timberwolves (2-6) Saturday at the Target Center for an 8 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Spurs-Timberwolves NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Spurs won two straight on the road—both in the Staples Center—against the Los Angeles Lakers and the Clippers coming into Saturday’s game. In their last game vs. the Lakers, San Antonio moved the ball well and threw 28 assists to just eight turnovers, which helped the Spurs connect on 45.7% of their 3-point attempts.

Minnesota started the season 2-0, but All-Star C Karl-Anthony Towns has been sidelined with a dislocated wrist he suffered during Minnesota’s second game of the season. Since then, the Timberwolves have lost all six games without KAT, five of which by 15 or more points, and have only covered one game.

The Timberwolves won and covered both meetings last season vs. the Spurs. However, those games were all the way back in Nov. 2019, and Minnesota’s two leading scorers in that game were KAT (“questionable” on the injury report) and SF Andrew Wiggins (no longer with the team).

Spurs at Timberwolves: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Timberwolves 123, Spurs 117

Money line (ML)

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE with a slight lean on Timberwolves (+165) since I am taking Minnesota plus the points. I do think the Timberwolves should be bigger underdogs, but maybe there’s a reason for Minnesota’s cheaper than expected money line.

Against the spread (ATS)

I am not sure what the sharps are seeing, but 76% of the money wagered is on the Timberwolves while 69% of the tickets/bets placed are on the Spurs, according to Pregame.com. Typically the money column is the sharp side, and the bets placed column is the average joe. Maybe some wiseguy with deep pockets has a tip on KAT’s questionable game status.

This market intel is puzzling considering the Spurs are 6-2 ATS this year and have just gotten back-to-back wins over two Western Conference favorites.  But regardless, this line has been bet down from Minnesota getting 7 points on the opener to the current number, and we should follow the money.

BET TIMBERWOLVES (+4.5, +100).

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 234.5 (-110) is my favorite bet in Spurs-Timberwolves. Minnesota is dead last in defensive rating, and San Antonio is ranked 21st in defensive while both teams are top-10 in pace of play. Also, before their last meeting, the Over has cashed in six straight Spurs-Timberwolves games.
