Chicago Bulls at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Chicago Bulls at San Antonio Spurs odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Antonio Spurs (18-31) host the Chicago Bulls (30-17) Friday at the AT&T Center for an 8:30 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we look at the Bulls vs. Spurs odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Chicago has won back-to-back games over the Oklahoma City Thunder Monday and the Toronto Raptors Wednesday. However, the Bulls are just 3-5 straight-up (SU) and 4-3-1 against the spread (ATS) over the past two weeks.

San Antonio has lost three of its past four games including its latest outing, which was a 118-110 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies as 4-point home underdogs. The Spurs are 3-5 SU and ATS in the last 14 days.

Bulls at Spurs odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Bulls 117, Spurs 111

Money line

Slight “LEAN” towards the BULLS (+102) because I prefer their spread but, either way, Chicago is the right side.

The Spurs (-125) don’t have anyone to defend Bulls’ wings Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan; both of whom love to operate in the mid-range, and that’s where San Antonio’s defense is most vulnerable.

According to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG), Chicago attempts the third-highest rate of mid-range field goals and has the third-best field goal percentage on mid-range shots. Whereas San Antonio has the second-worst defensive field goal percentage versus mid-range attempts, per CTG.

Also, the Spurs have a bottom-five adjusted defensive rating at home, and the Bulls are 14-4 SU with a plus-8.5 adjusted net rating versus bottom-10 defenses.

Furthermore, DeRozan played for the Spurs from 2018-21 (three seasons) so he’s very familiar with the sightlines of AT&T Center and could be motivated to show up his former employer.

Again, “LEAN” to the BULLS (+102) since Chicago plus the points is a sharper wager.

Against the spread

BET the BULLS +1.5 (-108) because this is a case of the “wrong team is favored”. In fact, the Spurs -1.5 (-112) opened as a 4-point home underdog (according to Pregame.com) before the market steamed San Antonio up to the current price.

But, I cannot reverse engineer that line movement or figure out what the market sees in the Spurs, I see value on the Bulls in this spot. Plus San Antonio is 5-10 ATS as a home underdog, which it opened up as.

Since I think the Spurs should still be a home underdog, I’m BETTING the BULLS +1.5 (-108).

Over/Under

Slight “LEAN” to the UNDER 231.5 (-107) for a small wager, if at all, because two of the three referees assigned to this game have officiated more Unders than Overs.

That could impact this total greatly since Chicago thrives at getting to the charity stripe, but San Antonio is fifth in defensive FT/FGA rate.

For what it’s worth, the Chicago sides are my favorite wagers in this game, and I’m not in love with the Under in Bulls-Spurs.

Memphis Grizzlies at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Memphis Grizzlies at San Antonio Spurs odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Memphis Grizzlies (32-17) travel to the Alamo City for an 8:30 p.m. ET tip-off against the San Antonio Spurs (18-30) at the AT&T Center. Below, we look at the Grizzlies vs. Spurs odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Memphis has alternated between winning and losing over its past six games with the latest being a 104-91 loss at the Dallas Mavericks Sunday. The Grizzlies are 3-3 straight-up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) over the past two weeks.

San Antonio snapped a two-game slide by hammering the Rockets in Houston 134-104 last night (Tuesday). The Spurs are 3-5 SU and ATS in the last 14 days.

The Grizzlies (-5.5) beat the Spurs 118-105 in their first meeting of the season, New Year’s Eve. Memphis has won four straight versus San Antonio and covered in three of those wins.

Grizzlies at Spurs odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Grizzlies 117, Spurs 115

Money line

PASS with a heavy “lean” to the Spurs (+160) because San Antonio plus the points is the side I’m on.

Both teams play a similar style and have a similar make-up, but the Grizzlies (-200) are just far more efficient so I cannot get behind a San Antonio upset in this spot.

Against the spread

BET the SPURS +4.5 (-107) for 1 unit because the Grizzlies -4.5 (-115) feels like a trap considering Memphis smacked around San Antonio when they first met on New Year’s Eve.

However, the Grizzlies were a lot closer to full health, and the Spurs were missing their leading scorer and assist man in PG Dejounte Murray.

While Memphis PG Ja Morant is a heavy favorite to win the NBA’s Most Improved Player award, Murray is also having a breakout season and has been dynamite this month.

Murray is averaging career highs in points, rebounds and assists per game this season. In Jan., Murray is outproducing his yearly averages by putting up 23.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 9.7 assists per in 12 games this month.

Furthermore, San Antonio has been more efficient and played better versus expectations than Memphis over the past two weeks despite having a worse record.

For instance, the Spurs have a plus-2.8 adjusted net rating (ranked 10th) and a plus-0.3 ATS margin (ranked 17th) in the last 14 days, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

But, the Grizzlies have a minus-4.4 adjusted net rating (ranked 22nd) and a minus-4.5 ATS margin (ranked 26th) during that span, per CTG.

Finally, Memphis is playing the final of a 4-game road swing and is hosting the Utah Jazz Friday. It could be a look-ahead spot for a Grizzlies team that’s facing the team that eliminated them from the playoffs last season and the Spurs could catch them snoozing.

All the trends and most of the public is on the Grizzlies but I’ll fade all that noise and BET the SPURS +4.5 (-107).

Over/Under

PASS with a heavy “lean” towards the Over 228.5 (-112) because both teams like to force turnovers, get out in transition, crash the glass and attack the paint.

Also, the Over has cashed in 5 of the last 7 Grizzlies-Spurs meetings. That said, I agree with this total and think it’s a sharp price.

Brooklyn Nets at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Brooklyn Nets at San Antonio Spurs odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Antonio Spurs (17-28) host the Brooklyn Nets (28-16) Friday at the AT&T Center for an 8:30 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we look at the Nets vs. Spurs odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Brooklyn has alternated between winning and losing over the past 10 games with the latest being a 119-118 victory versus the Washington Wizards Wednesday. The Nets are 18-26 against the spread (ATS) and 21-23 Over/Under (O/U).

San Antonio crushed the Oklahoma City Thunder 118-96 Wednesday, but the Spurs are just 2-5 overall in the last seven games. The Spurs are 24-21 ATS and 22-21-2 O/U.

The Nets (-9.5) eked past the Spurs 121-119 in overtime Jan. 9, but Brooklyn has won four straight versus San Antonio (3-1 ATS).

Nets at Spurs odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Spurs 118, Nets 116

Money line

BET the SPURS (-110) for 1 unit for a variety of reasons. First of all, the Spurs are better than their record indicates.

For example, San Antonio has the second-worst win differential based on adjusted net rating at a minus-4.1 but is fifth in ATS margin at plus-2.0, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG). Essentially the Spurs have four fewer wins than they should.

Second, San Antonio gets a lot of easy buckets whereas Brooklyn gives up easy scores. The Spurs are 12th in points off of turnovers per game, fourth in second-chance points per game (PPG), ninth in fast-break PPG and second in paint PPG.

Whereas the Nets’ defense is 26th in points off of turnovers per game, 22nd in second-chance PPG, 27th in fast-break PPG and 17th in paint PPG allowed.

Also, San Antonio does a good job keeping foes off the free throw line, which is massively important when facing James Harden. In fact, the Nets are fourth in adjusted offensive free-throw rate and the Spurs are fourth in adjusted defensive free-throw rate, per CTG.

Furthermore, San Antonio is seventh in adjusted offensive rating at home, and Brooklyn struggles against good offenses (CTG). The Nets are 5-9 straight-up (SU) with a minus-3.8 adjusted net rating and the worst ATS margin at minus-6.8, per CTG.

Moreover, San Antonio is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games versus teams with a 60.0% winning percentage or better and 6-4 ATS at home versus teams with a winning record. These ATS trends are applicable since this game is priced as a coin-flip.

Finally, all the money is coming in on Brooklyn in this spot but the look-ahead line has dropped from the Nets -145 to the current price (according to Pregame.com). It feels like the sportsbooks are laying a trap with Brooklyn.

BET the SPURS (-110).

Against the spread

PASS since the Spurs +1.5 (-102) doesn’t provide much insurance for San Antonio’s money line (ML). However, if the Spurs’ spread goes north of +2.5 then I’d sprinkle on San Antonio’s ML and take the points with the Spurs.

Over/Under

Slight “LEAN” to the OVER 232.5 (-110) for a small wager, if at all, because I much prefer the San Antonio side more than the total.

That said, there are many Over-friendly trends in this game. The Spurs score a lot more points in San Antonio where they are 15-6-1 O/U. Brooklyn is 12-9 O/U on the road, and the Over is 5-0 in the last five Nets-Spurs meetings.
