Jeff Ulbrich’s defense sold the Jets short in Week 13. In Week 14, it was Zach Wilson and Mike LaFleur’s depleted offense that cost New York a chance to win.

The Jets held the Saints to a second-quarter touchdown, a late fourth-quarter score and a meaningless garbage time rushing touchdown by Taysom Hill, but their offense never found the end zone and settled for three field goals in a 30-9 loss to New Orleans. The Jets’ 10th loss of the season officially eliminated them playoff contention.

Here are six takeaways from Gang Green’s second straight defeat.

Saints vs. Jets: Quinnen Williams returns after injuring shoulder

Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is questionable to return against the Saints after suffering a left shoulder injury.

Update: Williams has returned with a brace on his left shoulder with 8:34 remaining in the third quarter.

Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is questionable to return against the Saints after suffering a left shoulder injury.

Williams injured his shoulder while tackling Saints running back Alvin Kamara on New Orleans’ first play from scrimmage of the second half. Williams immediately went to the locker room to undergo further evaluation and his status for the remainder of Week 14 is up in the air.

Williams accounted for one tackle before injuring his shoulder. The Jets currently trail the Saints early in the third quarter.

Saints vs. Jets inactives: Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Sheldon Rankins active for New York

The Jets and the Saints enter Week 14 extremely banged-up and will be missing key pieces on Sunday afternoon.

The Jets enter their Week 14 a banged-up football team, but at least they will have two of their key pieces in the trenches when they take on the Saints.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Sheldon Rankins are active after being listed as questionable during the week. Duvernay-Tardif missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but returned in a limited capacity on Friday and will assume his spot at right guard. Rankins returns after missing Week 13 with a knee injury. C.J. Mosley is also active after being listed as questionable with a knee injury.

Notable players out for the Jets include Michael Carter II and Tevin Coleman due to concussions, as well as Elijah Moore due to a quad injury. Moore was placed on injured reserve Saturday, prompting the Jets to activate Brandin Echols injured reserve and elevate Vyncint Smith, D.J. Montgomery, Ronald Blair and Dan Brown. Blair is among New York’s inactives.

The Saints will also be without multiple starters in Week 14. Tackle Ryan Ramczyk and linebacker Pete Warner are out due to injury, while Cam Jordan and Mark Ingram are on the COVID list and Deonte Harris is suspended. Jordan’s absence marks the end of consecutive games played streak at 172. Rotational wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey is also out with an injury after being listed as questionable.

Alvin Kamara is officially back for New Orleans after missing time with a knee injury. Kamara has rushed for 530 yards and three touchdowns to go along with 32 receptions for 310 yards and four touchdowns so far this season.

The Jets are hours away from returning to action after a 15-point loss to the Eagles in Week 13.

New York hosts a Saints team fighting for their playoff lives after a five-game losing streak has dropped them to 5-7 on the season. The extra week of the regular season affords New Orleans a bit more liberty in its postseason pursuit than past years, but an eighth loss would be damning given its tough end of the season schedule.

Here is how you can watch the Jets clash with the Saints.

Oddsmakers favor banged-up Saints over Jets in Week 14

Oddsmakers aren’t giving the Jets much of a chance to avoid a two-game losing streak when the Saints come to town in Week 14.

The Saints are banged-up and will be missing key pieces when they travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the Jets on Sunday, but that has not been enough for oddsmakers to stray away from favoring New Orleans in Week 14.

Tipico Sportsbook lists the Jets as 5.5-point underdogs against the Saints, who are rolling with a nicked-up Taysom Hill at quarterback and won’t have multiple key pieces due to injuries, COVID and a suspension to their leading receiver. New Orleans does welcome back star running back Alvin Kamara from a knee injury, though, which could jump-start an offense that has struggled during a five-game losing streak.

The Jets and Saints are both -110 (bet $110 to win $100) to cover their respective ends of the spread. The over/under is 42.5. New York’s money line is +200 (bet $100 to win $200), while New Orleans’ money line is -250 (bet $250 to win $100).

Saints vs. Jets: Rash of injuries on both sides among 6 Week 14 storylines

Injuries and Zach Wilson’s ability to keep making progress are storylines to know before the Jets and the Saints play in Week 14.

The Jets don’t have a whole lot to play for other than pride and draft position from here on out, but their Week 14 matchup with the Saints carries plenty of importance for the boys from the bayou.

New Orleans is currently clinging to its playoff hopes with a 5-7 record. Sean Payton’s team started off 5-2, but have dropped five games in a row since Jameis Winston tore his ACL against the Buccaneers in Week 8. Week 14 is essentially now or never for the Saints, as a sixth straight loss would be damning for their chances of playing meaningful football in January.

With both teams banged up, here are six storylines to know before the Jets host the Saints.

2022 NFL draft order: Jets hold two top-6 picks entering Week 14

With 12 games behind them, the 3-9 Jets are in line for two of the first six picks in the 2022 NFL draft.

With 12 games in the books, the 3-9 Jets are in line for two of the first six picks of the 2022 NFL draft.

Per NFL.com, New York has its own first-round selection at No. 4 and Seattle’s at No. 6 after the Seahawks improved to 4-8 with a win over the 49ers. The Jets own Seattle’s first-rounder thanks to the Jamal Adams trade.

The Jets faltered at home against the Eagles over the weekend, as their defense could not get off the field and left Zach Wilson with almost no opportunity to build on a strong first-half performance. Wilson and New York’s offense were out of sync in the second half as a result, with Wilson firing an interception in the fourth quarter of a 33-18 loss.

It won’t be easy for the Jets to get back into the win column when the Saints come to MetLife Stadium on Sunday. New Orleans is banged up and will be without its leading wide receiver, but is fighting for a playoff spot and has a ton to play for in Week 14.
