The Saints have recorded five straight losses after starting the season 5-2, leaving them with an uphill battle to remain in playoff contention. RB Alvin Kamara returns to action after suffering an injury in Week 9 that forced him to miss four games.

The Jets were toppled 33-18 by the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 13 as they were held to fewer than 300 total yards for the second consecutive game.

Saints at Jets odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Saints 28, Jets 17

Money line

The money line value on this one is hard to come by, but the SAINTS (-250) are almost certainly the right squad. With Kamara returning to the lineup the team gets an enormous offensive boost and should be able to take advantage of the Jets’ inability to stop the run.

Don’t get too carried away because of the steep tag, but BET the SAINTS (-250).

Against the spread

New York is really beat up heading into Sunday with starters missing on both sides of the ball. Moore being placed on the injured reserve Saturday just further complicates things for a team that has struggled to find its way throughout the season.

Saints QB Taysom Hill suffered a gnarly finger injury in Week 13 but appears to be good to go against New York, and what he lacks as a passer he makes up with comfortably as a runner. Acting as a dual-threat out of the backfield he and Kamara should be able to move the chains Sunday.

Hill is likely to turn the ball over a couple of times if his last start is any indication, but the Jets still probably won’t have the means to take advantage enough to keep this one within a score.

BACK the SAINTS -5.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The Saints were a strong team defensively over the first third of the season but have slipped in recent weeks and have allowed over three scores to six straight opponents, including the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans.

New York is inept offensively but there is reason to believe they won’t be held back altogether. The Jets’ defensive inefficiencies have already been mentioned, and the Saints will treat this game as a get-right opportunity.

There is some concern that it plays out slowly with a lot of emphasis on the run game, but New York is prone enough to give up big plays that it might not matter.

This one should sneak OVER 41.5 (-110).
