2026 five-star quarterback Ryder Lyons has ‘amazing’ trip to Auburn

The number four recruit in the 2026 class said the Auburn left a “big impression” on him.

2026 five-star quarterback [autotag]Ryder Lyons[/autotag] recently visited the Plains on his summer “southern tour” and left with high praise for Auburn.

The Folsom, California native, who is currently ranked as the number four recruit in his class, said the staff and campus left a “big impression” on him. That impression was supposedly enough for the highly coveted quarterback to exclaim he would “definitely be back” on the Plains for another visit soon.

Standing at 6-2 and 205 pounds, the California native feels that Hugh Freeze and his staff did a great job making him feel needed. “You want to go somewhere where you’re believed in, so that was a thing I liked.” Lyons comments come just days after 2025 four-star running back Ousame Kromah praised Auburn’s staff for conveying the same thing during his visit.

He further went on to praise Auburn’s campus culture, which has also become a key factor in many recruits decisions to become a Tiger. “I really liked the culture, you could just tell there’s something different about here, which is awesome.”

With plenty of time left in his recruiting process, and possibly a delayed start to his college career due to a mission trip after his senior year, Lyons commitment decision is likely a long way out. Still, his praise should be encouraging for an Auburn staff in search of finding their next quarterback after senior [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag] moves on.

Along with Auburn, Lyons has made visits to Oregon, USC, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Alabama. That list is sure to grow in the coming months.

2026 5-star QB out of Folsom (CA) has arrived at Texas A&M

Ryder Lyons has arrived for his Texas A&M visit

I don’t believe Aggie fans need to be reminded that under former head coach Jimbo Fisher, landing elite quarterback prospects outside of current starting quarterback Conner Weigman was a consistent issue due to his poor development track post-Jameis Winston during his Florida State days.

With Mike Elko and new offensive coordinator Collin Klein now at the helm, Texas A&M’s 2025 cycle is a top-ten-ranked class with the potential to rise in the rankings over the next couple of months, especially after this weekend.

Texas A&M’s coaching/recruiting staff annually hosts recruits during the last weekend in July, providing a relaxed atmosphere during their visit. Even more importantly, prospects can discuss their potential collegiate futures together in College Station.

While the list is long, 2026 5-star quarterback Ryder Lyons stands out in the cycle, as the highly talented California native has made his way to campus, posing in a picture with Collin Klein inside Aggie’s team weight room.

Lyons possesses impressive arm, accuracy, and elite touch on the field. He completed over 68% of his passes for 3,578 yards, 38 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions on the year while running for 929 yards and 23 (!) touchdowns on the ground during his 2023 sophomore season at Folsom HS.

According to 247Sports, Lyons is ranked 11th in the 2026 cycle, third in quarterback prospect, and second in California prospect.

Five-star 2026 QB Ryder Lyons schedules Auburn visit

Auburn is looking to add a talented quarterback from the 2026 cycle, and Lyons appears to be a stellar candidate.

Auburn football’s 2026 recruiting efforts are off to a great start as the class currently sits at No. 12 in 247Sports top 25 rankings. To keep the momentum going, [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] is looking to sign a talented quarterback in the cycle and has one set in his sights.

[autotag]Ryder Lyons[/autotag], a five-star quarterback from Folsom, California, has scheduled a visit to Auburn for July 29, one day after Auburn wraps up its annual Big Cat Weekend and three days before the recruiting dead period according to Christian Clemente of 247Sports.

Lyons may be entering his 11th grade season this fall, but he has already caught the attention of several power programs. According to 247Sports, Lyons has racked up offers from programs such as Oregon, USC, Alabama, Colorado, and Florida.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins says that Lyons possesses a quick release and has a rare ability to excel as a passer and a runner.

At the SoCal Elite 11 Camp (3/17/24), he showed off one of the quickest releases in the camp, the ability to make throws from in and out of the pocket and was accurate to all three levels of the field. His 36″ vertical jump was 2nd highest in the camp and he combines rare physical tools with an advanced feel for the position as well.

Lyons is the No. 2 quarterback for the 2026 class and is the No. 2 overall recruit from California.

USC tries to close the deal for elite 2026 QB Ryder Lyons

Lincoln Riley hopes to ride with Ryder.

Ryder Lyons has received a USC football crystal ball. The top-two quarterback in the 2026 class could give the Trojans top-two quarterbacks in consecutive recruiting classes. Julian Lewis is the No. 1 quarterback in 2025 after reclassifying.

We wrote about Lyons in May:

Lyons is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect. He is the younger brother of 2024 four star USC tight end signee Walker Lyons, who is currently serving a mission with the Latter Day Saints in Norway.

Lyons, a dual-threat quarterback, finished his sophomore season with 3,500 passing yards, 950 rushing yards, and 61 total touchdowns.

“I’m probably gonna go on some visits in May or early June. I’ll probably go see USC, Oregon, Michigan, Texas A&M, Georgia, BYU, Notre Dame. I’m just gonna try my best. Those are probably the schools that I like right now a lot.”

Let’s see if Lincoln Riley can bring this one home. Quarterback isn’t the most pressing need for the program, but Lincoln Riley won’t hurt his reputation by continuing to bring in the best of the best signal-callers in the country. The timing is perfect because Ryder, like his brother Walker will go on a one year Latter-day Saint mission and will return to compete for the starting job in 2027 — Lewis’ junior season.

USC target Ryder Lyons named top 10 prospect in 2026 class

We will see if Lincoln Riley can extend his USC line of succession at the quarterback spot.

Folsom (California) four-star quarterback Ryder Lyons is very much in demand. He was named the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2026 class and the No. 2 quarterback in the class by 247Sports. Lincoln Riley has very carefully lined up his quarterback rooms for the next few years at USC. He would love to add Lyons, a player he has met and is courting.

Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame coaches watch California quarterback workout

Multiple Irish coaches were on hand to watch the 2026 quarterback go through drills

Starting on Tuesday, coaches are allowed to get back on the road recruiting and the Notre Dame football staff was taking full advantage of it.

Head coach Marcus Freeman along with quarterback coach Gino Guidugli and wide receiver coach Mike Brown headed to California to watch 2026 quarterback [autotag]Ryder Lyons[/autotag] go through a workout.

The Irish offered Lyons back in August of last year, so they are very well aware of his potential. Multiple other schools followed suit after Notre Dame, with Arkansas making an offer shortly after the conclusion of the workout.

Lyons isn’t currently ranked by the major services, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be soon. His 2026 class does not have many of its prospects ranked at this moment.

The recruitment of quarterbacks, both via the transfer portal and high school ranks, has taken a massive leap with Freeman at the helm. He understands the importance of stacking that room and looks to continue that by their pursuit of Lyons.
