The No. 4 Texas A&M baseball team was able to defeat No. 2 Arkansas 1-0 on Thursday night in an 11-inning pitchers’ duel thanks to sophomore Ryan Prager.

The left-handed star may have earned a no-decision but he kept the Aggies in the game. Prager pitched 7.0 scoreless frames and allowed 5 hits and 1 walk with 9 strikeouts on 101 pitches. After the win, he spoke to the media.

“It felt normal like another game. The outside noise is what it is. I thought it was great, one, that we got the game in first,” Prager recalled. “Then second, I thought for the weather and everything, we were all sitting here at 5 o’clock not knowing what the crowd was going to look like. People were probably going to be at home just watching from their couch.

“I thought the crowd was elite and that might even be an understatement. I don’t know if I can say enough good words about them tonight because normally I can’t really hear them or tell when I’m on the mound. But in the first I could tell they were with me all night long and they were with this team all night long through the last pitch.”

No. 4 Texas A&M baseball team defeats No. 2 Arkansas in 11-inning SEC pitchers’ duel

Amid a torrential downpour in College Station, the Aggies were able to begin their final regular season series following a 90 minute delay.

Amid a torrential downpour in College Station, the Texas A&M baseball team was finally able to begin its final regular season set following a 90 minute rain delay this week.

The No. 4 Aggies (43-10, 18-10 SEC) defeated No. 2 Arkansas (42-11, 19-9) by a final score of 1-0 in 11 innings on Thursday night at Blue Bell Park. Texas A&M ended the Top 5 SEC series opener with an emphatic walk-off walk by senior first baseman Ted Burton with the bases loaded.

Redshirt sophomore left-handed pitcher Ryan Prager had another brilliant performance on the bump. He pitched 7.0 scoreless frames and allowed 5 hits and 1 walk with 9 strikeouts on 101 pitches. Senior LHP Evan Aschenbeck (4-1) picked up the victory after tossing the final 4.0 innings while giving up 4 hits with 4 Ks on 46 pitches.

The Razorbacks out-hit the Aggies 9-5. Arkansas stranded twice as many base runners, 10-5. Texas A&M drew more walks, 3-1.

Game 2 at Olsen Field is on Friday evening at 7 p.m. The regular season finale is Saturday at 2 p.m.

Showing remarkable resilience, Texas A&M (42-10. 17-10 SEC) bounced back on Sunday against the Ole Miss Rebels, delivering a 6-0 shutout win. This victory, just a week after a tough loss to LSU, is a testament to the team’s unwavering spirit.

Wasting Ryan Prager’s ten-strikeout performance on Friday night, Justin Lamkin took the bump on Saturday only to give up five runs in 1.2 innings. The Rebels put up double-digit runs in a 10-2 blowout over the visitors to take the series, as the Aggies looked confused and borderline uninspired.

However, sophomore lefty Shane Sdao made his first start of the season on Sunday, setting career highs in strikeouts (7) and hits allowed (3) while earning Co-SEC Player of the Week honors in the process. He deserves most of the credit for the 6-0 victory.

This weekend, the No. 4-ranked Aggies will finish out the regular season against the visiting No. 2-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks (42-10, 19-8 SEC), as head coach Jim Schlossnagle’s squad still has a shot at the SEC West title with a sweep this weekend. Texas A&M drops a couple of spots in the newest USA Today Sports Coaches Poll. No. the sky is not falling.

Texas A&M (42-10. 17-10 SEC) rebounded on Sunday afternoon to once again salvage a disappointing road series vs. Ole Miss, losing the first two games frustratingly just a week after similarly falling to LSU.

After wasting Ryan Prager’s ten-strikeout performance on Friday night, Justin Lamkin took the bump on Saturday only to give up five runs in 1.2 innings. The Rebels put up double-digit runs in a 10-2 blowout over the visitors to take the series.

However, a bright spot emerged on Sunday afternoon, as sophomore lefty Shane Sdao made his first start of the season, only to set career highs in strikeouts (7) and hits allowed (3) while earning Co-SEC Player of the Week honors in the process, leading to an impressive shutout 6-0 victory.

Even with the win, Texas A&M’s consistency issues at the plate needed to be mended before taking on the No. 2-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks to finish the regular season. Losing four out of their last seven games, the Aggies dropped two spots in USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll rankings to No. 5 on Monday afternoon.

For the second consecutive Friday evening, the Aggies baseball team lost their SEC series opener on the road. Game 2 is Saturday at 4 p.m.

For the second consecutive Friday evening, the Texas A&M baseball team lost its SEC series opener on the road.

The No. 2 Aggies (41-9, 16-9 SEC) lost by a final score of 4-3 at Ole Miss (26-23, 10-15) to begin the weekend at Swayze Field. Texas A&M has lost three of its last four conference matchups.

With a single run scattered across the first, second and fifth innings, respectively, the Aggies led 3-2 with six outs to go. The Rebels tallied 1 in each of the second and third, then took the lead for good with 2 go-ahead runs in the bottom of the eighth frame.

Texas A&M recorded 7 hits and 5 walks on Friday night. Senior catcher Jackson Appel and graduate student designated hitter Hayden Schott led the way as the only Aggies to rack up multiple hits. Schott has 19 multi-hit games this year and has a current on-base streak of 13 contests.

Sophomore left-handed pitcher Ryan Prager took a no decision after allowing 2 runs and striking out 10 batters over 5.2 innings. Senior LHP Evan Aschenbeck (4-1) suffered the loss after tossing 1.2 frames of relief for Prager.

Texas A&M will attempt to even the series Saturday at 4 p.m.

Texas A&M (41-8, 16-8 SEC) rebounded after losing just the second SEC series this season against LSU last weekend, run-ruling the visiting Rice Owls 16-3 to reach a perfect 25-0 in midweek games this season, a feat reached for the first time since 2015.

What plagued the Aggies against the Tigers, outside of their Game 3 blowout win on Sunday, was the collectively poor performance at the plate, especially star outfielder Braden Montgomery’s unusual hitless streak lasting four games is definitely a warning sign that depends on power at the plate to score in bunches.

However, Montgomery steadily rebounded against the Owls, collecting two hits and a home run on the night. At the same time, Jace LaViolette continued his hot-hitting streak, recording his 26th home run of the year. Looking ahead to this weekend’s road test vs. Ole Miss (25-23, 9-15 SEC), head coach Jim Schlossnagle knows that success on the mound is key to keeping the Rebels at bay. ‘We played bad for 2 days’: Jim Schlossnagle reflects on how No. 2 Texas A&M avoided SEC sweep at LSU

“We played bad for two days. You deserved to get your rear end kicked when you don’t play well. Our guys care too much sometimes,” he said.

The No. 2 Texas A&M baseball team avoided an SEC sweep at reigning national champion LSU this past weekend with a 14-4 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Aggies coach Jim Schlossnagle chatted with TexAgs on Monday and reflected on the series loss.

“We played bad for two days. You deserved to get your rear end kicked when you don’t play well. Our guys care too much sometimes. If you have that level of care, it can snowball, especially in the sport of baseball,” Schlossnagle explained. “I think we have played poorly and pitched poorly before. We just swung the bat enough to cover it up. We had full control of the game with Ryan Prager pitching. He walked two guys. They bunt. They got a little flare that is just out of Ali Camarillo’s reach. Tommy White was up. This was the double play that we wanted, and a bad throw was made.

“You have to give credit to the team we faced. Gage Jump and Luke Holman are two of the best starters we will see all year. The numbers don’t accurately reflect those to guys. Griffin Herring is awesome. We knew going into the weekend their left-handed pitching would be an issue for us.

“I thought Chris Cortez gave us a shot of life. We had Caden Sorrell’s triple. That got everyone fired up and then the Gavin Grahovac homer. Baseball can eat you up. You can feel the greatest for a while. A couple of negative things happen, and you have to be careful not to let it steamroll… Thought it was great when we battled back. We needed it. Three to four innings in on Sunday, it was not a good feeling in the dugout.

“I don’t like postgame talks or speeches, but that was mine on Saturday night. ‘Just chill out.’ The game ended, and we had one of the best pitchers in the country hanging his body over the front rail of the dugout like the season was over.

“We will not be perfect. They are human beings. We have to find ways to overcome it. There will be days we do. Those two days, we didn’t.”

Texas A&M (39-6, 15-6 SEC) remains undefeated in mid-week games after defeating Tarleton State 10-6 on Tuesday night. Former Michigan second baseman Ted Burton hit his fifth home run in the last four games. In contrast, Jace LaViolette hit his 23rd home run on the season.

Within the victory, the Aggies have now crossed the 100-homerun mark for only the 2nd time in program history, a testament to head coach Jim Schlossnagle and his impressive coaching staff’s work last offseason to both acquire and develop talent at the plate.

The Aggies are in second place in the SEC West standings, just a conference win below the Arkansas Razorbacks. Both programs are tied with 39 wins on the year. This weekend, the Aggies will travel to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers, who have now won two consecutive conference series while simultaneously climbing up the standings to fifth place in the West.

On Thursday, Schlossnagle released the starting pitching rotation for the series, but for a second straight weekend, the Game 3 starter is “to be determined.”

The Texas A&M baseball team has reached and remained at No. 1 in the country this season in large part due to its stellar starting pitching staff, which begins with Ryan Prager.

The redshirt sophomore left-handed ace earned his 8th victory of the year on the bump Friday night amid inclement weather during a 5-2 win against No. 17 Georgia at Blue Bell Park.

“We mentioned it coming into the weekend. It it what it is, both teams have to play in it. We kind of accepted it, called it out for what it is, because everyone knows that the wind is blowing out,” Prager said. “I saw a tweet that tomorrow is supposed to be in even worse. You just go do your job and accept that you know a good pitch can fly out of here and that’s kind of how this park plays, and a lot of other places in the SEC. Definitely knew about it and accepted it but in the end today it was about going out and competing.”

Amid incoming inclement weather, Texas A&M baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle was able to guide the No. 1 Aggies to a 5-2 win against No. 17 Georgia on Friday night at Blue Bell Park.

“I thought this was a very well played baseball game by both teams. We happened to get a few more swings than they did. I thought both teams pitched really well, especially given the conditions. When the few mistakes were made, they were hit and they made maybe one or two more than we did. It was an awesome game, Georgia played good, was super physical and was super impressed by their pitching staff too,” Schlossnagle recalled. “(Prager) did awesome. The whole theme through the whole weekend is the wind is blowing out and they’re a great team, so what are you going to do about it? There’s nothing you can do about it, all you can do is execute pitches.

“The team that throws the most strikes in the weekend will probably win the series.”
