Rams claim OT Ryan Pope off waivers

The Rams have added another offensive tackle to the mix, claiming Ryan Pope off waivers from the Cardinals.

With an open roster spot, the Los Angeles Rams took the opportunity to add an offensive lineman to their 90-man roster. They claimed offensive tackle Ryan Pope off waivers from the Cardinals, who released him about a week after signing him.

Pope is 6-foot-7 and 315 pounds, coming into the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2019. In addition to spending time with the Cardinals, he also had stops in San Francisco, Jacksonville, Green Bay and Denver.

He has yet to appear in an NFL game, but in college, he played 36 games at San Diego State and earned second-team All-Mountain West honors in 2018.

The Rams have good depth at tackle with Joseph Noteboom backing up Andrew Whitworth at left tackle, and Bobby Evans and David Edwards both have experience on the edge despite the Rams using them as guards currently.

Cardinals sign OT Ryan Pope to add O-line depth

The Arizona Cardinals added some offensive line depth on Wednesday. The team announced the addition of offensive lineman Ryan Pope.

Pope is a 6-7, 315-pound tackle who entered the league in 2019 as an undrafted rookie. He has spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos.

He has not yet appeared in an NFL game.

He played collegiately at San Diego State. While he was there, he played in 36 games in three seasons (2016-18) and was named second-team All-Mountain West as a senior in 2018 after starting at both tackle spots.

The move is on the heels of head coach Kliff Kingsbury telling reporters that guard Brian Winters would miss a couple of weeks with an undisclosed injury.

It might not be completely related, but they likely need another body to get reps while they shift players around to fill in for absences.

Despite the Jacksonville Jaguars 2019 season coming to a close Sunday, the team decided to make some postseason transactions by signing seven players to reserve/future contracts. Amongst the group was kicker Jon Brown, defensive tackle Brian Price, offensive linemen Ryan Pope and Blake Hance, defensive end Chuck Harris, cornerback Jayson Stanley, and receiver Charone Peake.

The team also claimed former Dallas Cowboys safety, Josh Jones, off waivers, too.

Brown, 27, has been in the leagues since 2016 after going undrafted to the Cincinnati Bengals. He was on and off the team as an offseason and preseason player but eventually ended up with the San Francisco 49ers temporarily in the spring of 2019.

Price, 25, signed with the Jags in October and spent the remainder of the year on their practice squad. Before that, he spent time with various teams like the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys amongst notables. Throughout his career, he was able to participate in 22 games and earn one start while also accumulating 20 tackles.

Pope, 22, signed with the Jags in November and was designated to their practice squad. He initially entered the league as an undrafted free-agent in 2019 to the Detroit Lions. He later joined the 49ers before joining the Jags.

Hance, 23, joined the Jags’ practice squad after final cuts and previously played for the Washington Redskins. Prior to that, he played collegiately at Northwestern University.

Harris, 21, signed with the Jags’ practice squad in November. He played collegiately at the University of Buffalo and accumulated 149 total tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks while participating in 40 games for the Bills. Afterward,  he went undrafted to the Chicago Bears last April before joining the Jags.

Stanley, 22, went undrafted to the Atlanta Falcons last April. He spent time on their practice squad and the Miami Dolphins’ before joining the Jags’ Week 16. He played cornerback while attending the University of Georgia but was converted to a receiver while with the Falcons. He appeared in 37 games with the Bulldogs in college and most of his snaps came on special teams.

Peake, 27, was a seventh-round pick of the New York Jets in 2016. After playing collegiately at Clemson, he spent three seasons with Gang Green where he accumulated 22 receptions for 214 yards and a touchdown. However, in August of 2019, he was released by the team.

Jones, 25, has participated in 35 career games for the Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, who he initially entered the league with as a second-round pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. Since his time in the league, he managed to register 12 starts and will enter his Jags tenure with 119 tackles, seven pass breakups, three sacks, and a pick.

Jags add OL Ryan Pope to practice squad

The Jags added their second offensive lineman to the practice squad.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had an available spot their practice squad and filled it with the signing of offensive tackle Ryan Pope, putting them back at 10 players on the unit. Per Arron Wilson, the move came after the Jags worked Pope out this week with two other offensive tackles in Tyler Jones and Marcus Applefield.

Pope, 22, signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted rookie free agent in May and later found himself with the San Fransisco 49ers in September. He played collegiately at San Diego State University where he participated in 38 games and had 24 starts with the Aztecs. During his senior campaign in 2018, he started all 13 games for San Diego State and earned Second-Team All-Mountain West honors in the process.

He and Blake Hance are currently the only two offensive lineman on the Jags’ practice squad. If Pope sees the field in all probability it will be next preseason as the Jags will likely look to develop him this season.
