Merrimack at Rutgers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Merrimack at Rutgers odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Merrimack Warriors (1-2) and Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-0) tangle Wednesday in Piscataway. Tip time at Jersey Mike’s Arena will be 8 p.m. ET (Peacock). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Merrimack vs. Rutgers odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Merrimack last played on Sunday, losing to the 5.5-point-favorite Princeton Tigers 68-57. The Warriors went just 7-of-30 from distance, and they have shot an anemic 16.3% on 3s over their last 2 games.

Rutgers has been quite good defensively and has thus far held opposing shooters to a 38.7% mark from the floor. The Scarlet Knights failed to cover a -22 their last time out Friday, a 98-81 triumph over the Monmouth Hawks.

Merrimack at Rutgers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rutgers 78, Merrimack 57

Moneyline

No interest. AVOID.

Against the spread

The Scarlet Knights are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 November home games when favored by 20-plus points.

Rutgers is the much deeper team, but it has not really acted accordingly with a scoreboard to match since its season opener. Still, the advantage in this game, especially when it comes to getting high-quality around the basket, is worthy of a Knights-by-20 type of prediction.

In failing to turn big leads into covers the last 2 games, the Knights have been hurt by opponent 3s and a lack of disruption on the defensive end. Those areas of concern are mostly mitigated against a Merrimack team shooting 23.9% from distance and filing loose turnover numbers so far.

Depth and size issues figure to have the Warriors in down-15 territory by the middle minutes of the second half. Look for a better close from Rutgers in this one.

BACK RUTGERS -18.5 (-120).

Over/Under

The pace for this game figures as something right in the middle. And there are a few matchup factors favoring a bit of scoring spiral and a few that could slow things down.

So, the lean here is a slight one, but the upside of this total gets just a sliver of a nod. A big night at the rim for RU is the sway factor.

Consider a partial-unit play on the OVER 133.5 (-112).

Wagner at Rutgers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Wagner at Rutgers odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Wagner Seahawks meet the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Wednesday in Piscataway, N.J.. Tip-off at Jersey Mike’s Arena will be 6 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Wagner vs. Rutgers odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Wagner ended its 2023-24 regular season by losing 4 of its last 5 games, but then the Seahawks swept their way to a Northeast Conference Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Wagner won a First Four battle in Dayton against Howard and was then ousted in the first round of the tourney by North Carolina to finish with a record of 17-16.

Rutgers opened its 2023-24 season with 8 wins in its first 12 games, and the Scarlet Knights were 14-10 and on a solid roll when the calendar hit mid-February. But RU logged a 1-7 mark after that, including a loss in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, and the Knights finished 15-17.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Wagner at Rutgers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rutgers 79, Wagner 54

Moneyline

No value here: PASS.

Against the spread

Rutgers is 8-2 ATS over its last 10 home games in November. Last November, the Knights had 3 early home games that would fit as comps with this outside-the-top-200 Seahawks team. Against Boston, Howard and Saint Peter’s, RU averaged a winning margin of 25.0 points.

Coach Steve Pikiell has brought in a highly-touted freshman class and a solid core of transfers. That combined group should provide loads of good guard play, decent 3-point shooting and defense.

Expect Wagner, which ranked 353rd in scoring last year (63.7 points per game), to fall behind early and struggle to produce any significant runs against a much more athletic RU squad.

BACK RUTGERS -19.5 (-120).

Over/Under

With Rutgers playing at home and having some upside to its offensive game, look for the Knights to surprise people in the early weeks of the season.

The Over went 10-22 in RU games last season and 12-19 in Wagner contests. But the new-look Knights bring a different skill set to the table. Much is expected. In this case that includes more pace, more points.

And more value in the OVER 129.5 (-110).

Washington at Rutgers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Washington at Rutgers odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Washington Huskies (3-1) take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-0) in a Big 10 clash at SHI Stadium Friday. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Washington vs. Rutgers odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Huskies smoked the Northwestern Wildcats 24-5 last week, covering as 12-point favorites. This came after losing to in-state rival Washington State 24-19 as 6-point favorites. QB Will Rogers was awesome against Northwestern, going 20-for-28 for 223 yards, 2 TDs and 0 INTs. WR Denzel Boston caught both TDs as part of his 7-121-2 line.

Rutgers upset the Virginia Tech Hokies as a 3-point dog with a 26-23 finish. The Scarlet Knights went up 23-7 and survived a late push by Va Tech to tie the game and kicked the game-winning field goal with less than 2 minutes to go. RBs Kyle Monangai and Samuel Brown combined to rush 40 times for 144 yards and 3 TDs in the game.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Washington at Rutgers picks and predictions

Prediction

Washington 31, Rutgers 27

Moneyline

The Huskies are going to look to start fast. If they can make this a track meet, it benefits them and keeps Rutgers’ 2-headed monster at running back in check. Rogers has completed 75.7% of his passes for 1,048 yards, 8 TDs and 0 INTs on the season. That’s how WASHINGTON (+115) gets it done.

Against the spread

Since we’re taking the plus-money on the ‘dogs, let’s roll with WILL ROGERS OVER 220.5 PASSING YARDS (-115). He has thrown for 250, 261, 314 and 223 thus far.

Over/Under

Washington is 0-4 O/U thus far, but that’s thanks in part to its defense allowing single-digit scores in 3 of 4 games. Rutgers is 3-1 O/U and will provide a test to Washington’s defense.

This one is going OVER 44.5 (-110).

Rutgers at Nebraska odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Rutgers at Nebraska odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (15-13, 7-10 Big Ten) visit the Nebraska Cornhuskers (20-9, 10-8) Sunday. Tip-off from Pinnacle Bank Arena is set for 6:30 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Rutgers vs. Nebraska odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Rutgers routed the Michigan Wolverines 82-52 Thursday while covering as an 8-point home favorite. Rutgers shot 52.4% from the field and had 4 players score in double figures. The win ended a 3-game losing streak.

Nebraska lost 78-69 to the Ohio State Buckeyes Thursday while failing to cover as a 3-point road underdog. The Cornhuskers were outrebounded 43-33 and only shot 38.8% from the field. The loss ended a 4-game win streak.

These teams met Jan. 17 at Rutgers and the Scarlet Knights won 87-82 in OT.

Rutgers at Nebraska picks and predictions

Prediction

Nebraska 78, Rutgers 68

Moneyline

PASS.

Nebraska (-360) should pick up the win, but the Cornhuskers are not worth the risk of betting on as such heavy favorites. Bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

LEAN NEBRASKA -7.5 (-120).

Nebraska has covered the spread in 4 of its last 5 games and is 7-3 ATS in its last 10. The Cornhuskers have also covered in 2 of their last 3 game against  the Scarlet Knights and are 4-2 ATS in the last 6 meetings. Nebraska has also been the better ATS team this season, going 18-11 while Rutgers is 13-15.

This is only a lean because the ATS battles in recent Rutgers-Nebraska matchups have been even, and because Rutgers is a solid squad that could give the Cornhuskers problems.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 139.5 (-114).

The Over has hit in 2 of Nebraska’s last 3 outings and is 6-4 in its last 10 games. The Over is also 19-10 for Nebraska this season. The Over has also hit in back-to-back Rutgers-Nebraska matchups and is 3-1 in the last 4 meetings.

This is only a lean because the Under has been dominant for Rutgers this season (19-9). The Scarlet Knights allow only 65.9 points per game, 31st-best in the nation.

Rutgers at Wisconsin odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Rutgers at Wisconsin odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Wisconsin Badgers (3-1) welcome the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (4-1) to Camp Randall Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is set for noon ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rutgers vs. Wisconsin odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Rutgers beat Wagner 52-3 at home Saturday, covering as a 47.5-point favorite. The Scarlet Knights have yet to lose against the spread (ATS) this season, posting a 4-0-1 record. Their lone non-cover was a 31-7 loss at No. 2 Michigan, closing as a 24-point underdog. QB Gavin Wimsatt leads the team, having thrown for 733 yards and 5 TDs in 5 games.

Wisconsin had a bye last week after beating Purdue 38-17 on the road as a 6-point favorite. The Badgers came into the season ranked, but lost that after a 31-22 road loss to Washington State in Week 2. QB Tanner Mordecai hasn’t played up to expectations, throwing just 2 TDs and 3 INTs in 4 games. Wisconsin relies heavily on its run game.

Rutgers at Wisconsin picks and predictions

Prediction

Wisconsin 27, Rutgers 21

Moneyline

PASS.

Wisconsin is 2-0 at home and has won both games by 21 points. However, at -550, there’s no value in backing the home side. If anything, Rutgers at +400 has some value, but I would far rather play it to cover in this one.

Against the spread

BET RUTGERS +13.5 (-115).

Rutgers can defend what Wisconsin does best – run the ball. The Scarlet Knights rank 30th in the nation in opponents yards per attempt at just 3.3. The Badgers feast off their run game with both top backs, Braelon Allen and Chez Mellusi, averaging 6 or more yards per attempt.

If Rutgers can neutralize that, it can cover this size of a spread. The Scarlet Knights are 4-0-1 ATS as well and have been better than expected this season. They went into the half down just 14-7 on No. 2 Michigan. Expect them to put up a fight and cover. Take RUTGERS +13.5 (-115).

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 44.5 (-105).

Rutgers has scored 35 or more points in 3 of its last 4 games. It has gone 2-1 O/U in its last 3 games. The offense is clicking. Wisconsin is 2-2 O/U this season and has scored at least 35 in 3 of 4, allowing 14 or more in each game as well.

It has yet to have a total under 52 points, and it is 2-0 O/U in games with a total that closed under 57. Take OVER 44.5 (-105).

Rutgers at Michigan odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Rutgers at Michigan odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) visit the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines (3-0, 0-0) Saturday. Kickoff from Michigan Stadium is set for noon ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rutgers vs. Michigan odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Rutgers continued its hot start to the season with a 35-16 win over Virginia Tech as a 6.5-point underdog last Saturday. The Scarlet Knights have been a very balanced offense to start the season. QB Gavin Wimsatt has completed 51.5% (34-of-66) of his passes for 407 yards and 3 TDs while RB Kyle Monangai has rushed for 357 yards and 5 TDs on 58 carries.

Michigan has also looked dominant again in Week 3 action, clobbering Blowing Green 31-6 but failing to cover as a 41-point favorite. The Wolverines have scored 30 or more points while allowing 7 or fewer points in 3 start games to start the year.

QB J.J. McCarthy looked a bit rough against Bowling Green, completing 8 of his 13 passes for 143 yards for 2 TDs against 3 INTs. However, Michigan’s run game and defense were stellar in the win as the RB duo of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards combined for 151 rushing yards and 2 TDs on 21 carries.

Michigan is No. 2 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Rutgers at Michigan picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan 35, Rutgers 7

Moneyline

PASS.

I like the Wolverines to cover here as they have won their last 8 straight vs. Rutgers, but -3000 favorites are not worth the risk. Bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

LEAN MICHIGAN -24 (-110).

The Wolverines have dominated the Scarlet Knights lately, and I expect that to continue here. Coach Jim Harbaugh to the sidelines after serving a 3-game suspension so I expect the Wolverines to look even more dominant than they have in the previous 3 weeks. Michigan has won 5 of its last 8 vs. Rutgers by more than 24 points, and this year will likely be no different.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 44.5 (-115).

Michigan has been dominant defensively, only allowing 16 points through 3 games, and I don’t expect this contest to be any different. Rutgers has scored 24 points in all 3 games to start the year, but that should come to an end here. I could see the Wolverines’ offense carrying this game to the Over, but as they haven’t yet scored over 35 I don’t think it will happen Saturday.

Hofstra at Rutgers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rutgers 69, Hofstra 64

Against the spread

LEAN HOFSTRA +7.5 (-110).

While Rutgers plays against much more fierce competition in the Big Ten, Hofstra had an impressive end to its season leading up to this game. It is 9-1 in its last 10 games and 8-2 ATS in that span.

The Pride are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 against a team with a winning outright record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. They are also 1-0 in the only game they played this season as 7.5-9.5-point underdogs while Rutgers is 1-2 ATS in games as a 7.5-9.5-point favorite.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 136.5 (-110).

Both teams’ strength in this matchup is their defense which will slow down the pace and put points at a premium.

The Under is 4-1 in the Pride’s last 5 road games against a team with a winning home record and 4-2 in its last 6 games overall. For the Scarlet Knights, the Under is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a loss, 13-3 in their last 16 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600, 8-3 in their last 11 overall and 5-2 in their last 7 Tuesday games.

Big Ten Tournament: Rutgers vs. Purdue odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Rutgers vs. Purdue odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (19-13) square off against the No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers (26-5) Friday in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. Tip-off is at noon ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around Rutgers vs. Purdue odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Purdue ended the year 4-4 over its last 8 games with losses to Indiana (x2), Northwestern and Maryland after a strong start to the season. The Boilermakers are still the favorites to win the Big Ten Tournament and if they did so would be a big step toward being a top seed on Selection Sunday.

Rutgers topped Michigan 62-50 Thursday in the 2nd round of the tournament. The Scarlet Knights should be on the right side of the bubble for March Madness even if they lose to Purdue.

Rutgers beat Purdue 65-64 on Jan. 2, winning outright as an 8.5-point road underdog as the Under (131) connected.

Rutgers vs. Purdue picks and predictions

Prediction

Purdue 63, Rutgers 60

Moneyline

Rutger’s defensive play has been its anchor this season. The Scarlet Knights are 7th in opponent points per game (60.4) and 10th in opponent shooting percentage (39.31%).

However, Purdue is number 3 in the country for a reason, in large part due to rebounding. They are 2nd in offensive rebound percentage (38%) and 1st in opponent defensive rebounds per game (18.1).

While I think Purdue (-270) is likely to get the victory in the rematch, you shouldn’t risk more than 2 1/2 times your potential return on a moneyline wager.

PASS.

Against the spread

Purdue has the 2nd worst ATS record in the Big Ten as a favorite (9-15-2) and is just 3-4 ATS with a rest advantage. Rutgers has more to play for and won’t be rusty.

BET RUTGERS +6.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Both these teams have leaned towards the Under this year. Rutgers is 12-20 O/U and Purdue is 13-17-1 O/U. I expect both teams to need some time to settle in this neutral-court quarterfinal Friday.

LEAN UNDER 128.5 (-115).

Big Ten Tournament: Rutgers vs. Michigan odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Rutgers vs. Michigan Big Ten odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 9 Rutgers Scarlet Knights battle the 8th-seeded Michigan Wolverines Thursday in the 2nd round of the Big Ten Tournament. Tip from the United Center is set for noon ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rutgers vs. Michigan odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rutgers lost to Michigan 58-45 on Feb. 23 at home, failing to cover as a 6-point favorite in their lone meeting during the regular season.

The Scarlet Knights have failed to cover their last 2 games and are just 1-6-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 8 games. They are 17-13-1 ATS on the season and 12-19 O/U.

The Wolverines have covered 5 in a row, winning 3 of them outright. Their last 3 games have gone to overtime in which they are just 1-2 straight up. Michigan is also 17-13-1 ATS on the season and 18-13 O/U.

Rutgers vs. Michigan picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan 68, Rutgers 61

Moneyline

PASS.

Michigan has played far better to end the season and beat Rutgers by 13 on its home court. The Wolverines aren’t worth a play at (-170) given they are still 3-4 straight up over their last 7.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

LEAN MICHIGAN -3.5 (-105).

Simply put, Michigan is playing better basketball. March is about getting hot and staying hot. Rutgers has lost 2 in a row and 6 of its last 8 games. Michigan has covered 5 in a row and 8 of its last 10.

That’s an impressive stretch of play from the Wolverines. They have scored at least 84 in 3 of their last 5 games. Michigan is 12-7-1 ATS in conference games while Rutgers is just 10-9-1 ATS.

Considering the trends pointing to the Wolverines, back MICHIGAN -3.5 (-105).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 133.5 (-110).

Rutgers has gone Under in 4 of its last 5 games and in 7 of its last 9. The Scarlet Knights have scored under 60 points in 4 of its last 5 games as well. Their offense, which ranks 274th in points per game (68.2), hasn’t been there down the stretch.

Michigan is 4-3 O/U in its last 7, but ranks outside the top 150 in field goal and 3-point field goal percentage. Its offense has played to the pace and tempo of its competition and hasn’t been consistently good either.

Considering the first battle ended 58-45, ultimately back the UNDER 133.5 (-110).

Northwestern at Rutgers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Northwestern at Rutgers odds and lines, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Northwestern Wildcats (20-10, 11-8 Big Ten) meet the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (18-12, 10-9) Sunday in Jersey Mike’s Arena at 7:30 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Northwestern vs. Rutgers odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

After an ugly last-second 75-74 loss at Minnesota after leading by 10 with 80 seconds left, Rutgers will return home to do battle with a Northwestern team which has exceeded all expectations this season.

This will be a defensive battle between 2 of the best defenses in the Big Ten as both look to head into the conference tournament with a win after both suffered losses in their previous outings.

While Rutgers was taking a terrible loss to last place Minnesota, Northwestern was losing to fellow bubble team Penn State 68-65 in overtime.  A win for either team would certainly go a long way in the eyes of the committee in a Big Ten Conference looking to get 9 teams into the NCAA Tournament.

Northwestern at Rutgers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rutgers 59, Northwestern 56

Moneyline

PASS.

Coming off the loss to last-place Minnesota, Rutgers needs this win to make the Big Dance. Northwestern would obviously like this win, but it is comfortably in the tournament and this game does not affect that position.

Rutgers and its defense will do just enough against the Wildcats to pull off the much-needed victor, but -210 is too rich to wager.

Against the spread

NORTHWESTERN -4.5 (-105).

With both defenses taking control of this game, a shootout is not likely to happen. With that said, either of these squads covering a large number is also not likely.

While 4.5 is not excessive, with the way both teams will look to slow down the game and take methodical shots, it is still a point too high for my liking. Northwestern has covered the spread in 6 of its last 8 games overall and have covered in 5 of their last 7 against a team with a winning record. This will be another cover for the Wildcats to finish the regular season.

Over/Under

UNDER 126.5 (-105)

Do not expect points to be plentiful for the Scarlet Knights or the Wildcats. Northwestern ranks 281st in the nation at 67.8 points per game while Rutgers allows 60.2 (9th). Rutgers’ offense averages just 68.7 points (262nd) while the Northwestern defense ranks 23rd at 62.6.

The Under has hit in 7 of the Wildcats last 9 overall games and has also hit in 5 of the Wildcats last 8 games following an ATS loss.

Rutgers has played Under the total in 13 of its last 16 against a team with a win percentage over .600 and have also gone Under in 6 of 8 overall.

This will be a typical Big Ten technical, grind it out game. Neither team will be explosive and the game will remain Under the low total of 126.5.
