Fam, really?

You would think that, as an NBA player, you would have amazing skill at Pop-A-Shot. It’s all basketball, right? It’s got to be similar.

Well, either that’s not true or this one kid has a really bright future in the NBA.

Wizards rookie forward Rui Hachimura was playing Pop-A-Shot during All-Star festivities on Saturday against some kid. And, y’all, he was legitimately getting washed. Like, the kid was doubling his score washed.

Hachimura was so bad, apparently, that he thought it may be something wrong with his rim. So he had his competitor switch sides. What was the result? Still. Washed.

Yoooooo. That is EMBARRASSING. Nah, Rui. Come on, my boy, you’ve got to do better than that. In front of Allen Iverson, too? He’s never going to live this down. He’s going to get clowned all the way back to D.C.

Tell you what, though. Hachimura is a much better man than myself. He didn’t swat not a single one of the kid’s shots away. Just kept letting him shoot his lights out with no mercy. Respect, I guess?

And, yes, as a Wizards fan I am absolutely (and unreasonably) mortified by this. But for Wizards fans, being mortified is just a state of existence.

So I’m still laughing right along with the rest of you.

Rookie Wire Power Rankings: Ja Morant leads before the All-Star break

Rookie Wire takes a look at the top rookies through the latest week of the 2019-20 NBA season.

Fresh off of a career performance, No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson finds himself rising up the ranks in the rookie class as he has proven to be every bit as good as advertised.

Williamson scored a career-high 31 points in a blowout win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night, becoming just the fifth player in the past 10 seasons to have a 30-point performance in his first 10 career games.

As Williamson continues his stellar play, several other first-year players have stepped up recently and are making an appearance in the latest Rookie Wire Power Rankings heading into the All-Star break.

After missing 10 consecutive games due to a knee injury, Porter has played some of his best basketball of the season. The 30th overall pick has scored in double figures in six straight games for the first time this season and is averaging 14.9 points during that span.

He also threw down a windmill dunk that had everyone talking.

Gonzaga teammates Rui Hachimura, Brandon Clarke faced off on Sunday

Clarke and the Grizzlies swept the season series on Sunday after picking up the 106-99 win over Hachimura and the Wizards.

Former Gonzaga teammates Rui Hachimura and Brandon Clarke caught up with each other on Sunday as their two teams squared off for the second and final time this season.

Clarke walked away with the season sweep after scoring nine points and six rebounds as his Memphis Grizzlies defeated Hachimura and the Washington Wizards on Sunday night. Hachimura finished with his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Ja Morant led the Grizzlies to the 106-99 win after registering his first career triple-double with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The Grizzlies improved to 27-26 on the season after winning seven out of their last 10 games.

Hachimura and Clarke helped lead the Bulldogs to the Elite Eight last year in the NCAA Tournament after falling to Texas Tech. Hachimura spent three seasons at Gonzaga, earning West Coast Conference Player of the Year honors last season, while Clarke played his senior year at the school.

Wizards’ Rui Hachimura scores 11 points in return from groin injury

After missing the past 23 games due to a groin injury, Hachimura returned on Monday in a loss to the Warriors.

Washington Wizards rookie Rui Hachimura tallied 11 points and eight rebounds in his return to the lineup on Monday night after missing the past 23 games due to a groin injury.

The first-round pick logged 26 minutes during the 125-117 loss to the Golden State Warriors, playing in roughly six-minute stretches. Hachimura looked comfortable in his return and had a few nice post moves throughout the night.

Hachimura was inadvertently kicked in the groin by teammate Isaac Bonga on Dec. 16 against the Detroit Pistons. Hachimura left after the first half of that game and did not return after suffering a groin contusion.

Hachimura was cleared for all basketball activities roughly two weeks ago and needed to knock off some rust and work on his conditioning prior to returning to the court after missing so much time.

Prior to the injury, Hachimura was averaging 13.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Given Monday was his first game back after a lengthy absence, it will likely take a few games to return to how he played before going down.

The Wizards play next on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks.

2020 NBA Rising Stars: Williamson, Morant among rookies selected

Zion Williamson and Ja Morant were among the 10 rookies selected to play in the Rising Stars game during All-Star Weekend in Chicago.

New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson and Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant were among the rookies selected to play in the 2020 NBA Rising Stars game during All-Star Weekend in Chicago.

The 26th Rising Stars game will pit 10 first- and second-year NBA players from the United States against 10 first- and second-year NBA players from around the world in the league’s annual showcase.

Williamson was chosen to participate in the game as an injury replacement for Chicago Bulls center Wendell Carter Jr. after the second-year player recently suffered a sprained ankle. Carter is expected to be out until after the All-Star break.

NBA assistant coaches selected the Rising Stars rosters, with each of the league’s 30 teams submitting one ballot per coaching staff. A ballot consisted of four frontcourt players, four guards and two additional players at either position group for each team. Voters also had to choose a minimum of three first-year NBA players and three second-year NBA players for each team.

Coaches were not permitted to vote for any player on their team.

Wizards’ Rui Hachimura is ‘close’ to returning to the court

Wizards head coach Scott Brooks hinted that Hachimura could return as soon as this weekend against the Brooklyn Nets.

After missing the past 21 games with a groin injury, Washington Wizards rookie Rui Hachimura is “close” to returning to the court, head coach Scott Brooks said on Tuesday.

Hachimura was inadvertently kicked in the groin by teammate Isaac Bonga on Dec. 16 against the Detroit Pistons. Hachimura left after the first half of that game and did not return after suffering a groin contusion.

Brooks told reporters last week that Hachimura had been cleared for all basketball activities but still needed to work on his conditioning and get back into game shape.

Hachimura could return as soon as this weekend, Brooks said.

Rui is once again getting closer. He had a good workout yesterday, went through everything, shootaround today. I don’t anticipate him playing on Thursday [against the Charlotte Hornets] but over the weekend, you never know. He is getting close, which is great. Every day he is getting a little bit better, he is getting confident, [his] conditioning is improving. The rust is disappearing. He is going to be ready and it’s going to be soon. That’s a bright spot.

Prior to suffering the injury, Hachimura had started in each of the Wizards’ 25 games to that point and was fifth in scoring among all rookies. Hachimura is averaging 13.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game for the Wizards. His 5.8 rebounds per game are tied for first among all rookie players.

After playing the Hornets on Thursday, the Wizards host the Brooklyn Nets in the second game of a six-game homestand on Saturday so Hachimura could see his return against Kyrie Irving & Co.

Head coach Scott Brooks provided the update on Wednesday afternoon as the Wizards prepare to face the Miami Heat. Brooks added that Hachimura still needs to get into game shape prior to returning as the team is hopeful he can play by the All-Star break.

Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks said on Monday that first-round pick Rui Hachimura is walking better and lifting weights again after suffering a groin injury last month.

Hachimura has missed the past 14 games for the Wizards after he was inadvertently kicked in the groin by teammate Isaac Bonga on Dec. 16 against the Detroit Pistons. Hachimura left after the first half of that game and did not return after suffering a groin contusion.

Brooks told reporters, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic, that he is hopeful Hachimura can travel with the team as the Wizards are on the road for six of their next seven games. Traveling with the team would be a step in the right direction for Hachimura as it could signal he is close to returning.

Prior to suffering the injury, Hachimura had started in each of the Wizards’ 25 games to that point and was fifth in scoring among all rookies. He had scored in double figures in eight straight games, averaging 18.4 points over that span.

Hachimura is averaging 13.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists this season.
