The Kansas City Royals (24-17) and Los Angeles Angels (15-25) wrap up a 4-game set at Angel Stadium Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:07 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Royals vs. Angels odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Royals lead 2-1

The Royals are coming off a 9-3 loss vs. the Angels Saturday with the Over (8) hitting. SS Bobby Witt Jr. scored a run and singled in another for Kansas City, which failed to cash as a -169 road favorite.

The Angels snapped a 2-game skid with Saturday’s win as +155 underdogs. RF Jo Adell hit a 3-run HR in the 2nd inning and CF Kevin Pillar finished with 3 hits and 3 RBIs on the night.

Royals at Angels projected starters

RHP Seth Lugo vs. LHP Patrick Sandoval

Lugo (5-1, 1.74 ERA) makes his 9th start. He has a 1.01 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 6.3 K/9 in 51 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 6 2/3 IP, 2 ER (3 R), 5 H, 1 BB, 5 K in 6-5 home defeat vs. Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday
  • Career vs. Angels: 0-0, 1.23 ERA (7 1/3 IP, 1 ER), 0.96 WHIP in 1 start and 1 relief appearance — allowed 1 ER in 6 IP in 1 start last season

Royals at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Royals 5, Angels 4

Moneyline

The ROYALS (-125) should bounce back after losing by 6 runs Saturday. Kansas City has scored a total of just 5 runs over its last 2 games. However, it had put up 5 or more runs in 3 straight games before the slump began Friday. MLB’s 11th-best team in slugging % (.396) shouldn’t continue to struggle for a 3rd consecutive game.

BET ROYALS (-125).

Run line/Against the spread

Expecting the Royals to win by multiple runs on the road after losing by 6 is a tough ask. L.A. +1.5 (-160) is also too expensive to play against this Royals offense that can explode for 6 or more runs on any given night.

PASS.

Over/Under

The Over has hit in 4 of 5 for the Royals, who are expected to score 4 or more runs, according to their team total. Sandoval has allowed a total of just 2 runs over his last 2 starts, which is a concern for this bet, but he has been inconsistent and was blown up for a total of 11 runs in the 2 starts prior April 20 and 26.

LEAN OVER 8 (-115).

Analyzing Thursday’s Kansas City Royals at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Kansas City Royals (22-16) kick off a 7-game road trip with the 1st game of 4-game series against the Los Angeles Angels (14-23). First pitch from Angel Stadium is at 9:38 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Royals vs. Angels odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Angels won series 4-2 in 2023

The Royals have won 5 of their last 8 games overall and finished their 6-game homestand 3-3, taking 2 of 3 games from the Milwaukee Brewers. They won the finale on Wednesday 6-4.

The Angels return home after going 3-3 on their 6-game road trip. They took 2 out of 3 from the Pittsburgh Pirates, winning the final 2 games of the series, including a 5-4 win Wednesday.

Royals at Angels projected starters

RHP Michael Wacha vs. LHP Reid Detmers

Wacha (1-4, 5.50 ERA) makes his 8th start. He has a 1.46 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 37 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 3 2/3 IP, 7 ER, 9 H, 1 BB, 3 K in 15-4 home loss to Texas Rangers on Saturday
  • Has lost his last 4 decisions
  • Has a 10.61 ERA over his last 2 starts (9 1/3 IP)

Detmers (3-3, 4.24 ERA) makes his 8th start. He has a 1.22 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 9.8 K/9 in 40 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 2/3 IP, 7 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 7 K in 7-1 road loss to Cleveland Guardians on Saturday

Royals at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Royals 6, Angels 4

Moneyline

The Angels are only 4-11 at home this season.

Neither starter has been good recently (Wacha has allowed 11 ER in last 2 starts while Detmers has allowed 12).

The Royals have won 5 of their last 7 series openers. Betting them on the moneyline is fine but you have better value on the run line.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

Seven of the Angels’ last 8 losses have been by 2 or more runs while 5 of the Royals’ last 6 wins and 16 of their 22 total wins have been by multiple runs.

BET ROYALS -1.5 (+140).

Over/Under

Four of their 6 meetings last season and 8 of their last 10 have not reach 8 total runs. But both starters have given up a lot of runs in recent starts.

The Royals’ last 2 games and 3 of the last 5 have had more than 8 total runs.

The Angels’ last 2 games and 10 of the last 14 have had at least 8 runs.

BET OVER 8.5 (-105).

Royals at Angels projected starters

RHP Jordan Lyles vs. LHP Reid Detmers

Lyles (0-3, 3.91 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 1.26 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 6.4 K/9 through 25 1/3 IP.

  • Lost Monday vs. the Texas Rangers: 8 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K

Royals at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Angels 7, Royals 5

Moneyline

PASS.

The Royals have only won back-to-back games once this season. The Angels (-210) should win, but there is no need to pay the higher price on the moneyline when Los Angeles should win by multiple runs. Bet the run line and/or the total instead.

Run line/Against the spread

BET ANGELS -1.5 (-115).

The Angels should bounce back after a tough loss last time out. Los Angeles’ last 3 wins and Kansas City’s last 4 losses have all been by multiple runs. Lyles has struggled in his career vs. the Angels and it is unlikely that he’ll get his 1st win of the season Sunday at Los Angeles.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET OVER 9.5 (-115).

The Over is 4-0 in Kansas City’s last 4 games vs. left-handed starters and 12-3 in its last 15 on the road. Both starters have struggled this season and Sunday’s matchup should be another offensive showcase after these teams combined for 19 runs on Saturday.

Kansas City Royals at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Kansas City Royals at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Kansas City Royals (4-15) and Los Angeles Angels (9-10) open up a 3-game set at Angel Stadium Friday. First pitch is at 9:38 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Royals vs. Angels odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; tied 3-3 in 2022

The Royals have lost 9 of 10 and enter Friday with the 2nd-worst record in baseball. They were outscored 28-5 in a 3-game sweep byd to the Rangers earlier this week. They are second-to-last with 3.13 runs/9 and have a league-worst .208 batting average.

The Angels dropped 2 of 3 at Yankee Stadium this week after dropping 3 of 4 in Boston. They are 3-3 at home and have their ace on the hill. The pitching has been solid. They are 16th in runs/9 at 4.48, but they’re top-10 in OBA (.233), OPS (.692) and HRs allowed (0.81).

Royals at Angels projected starters

RHP Taylor Clarke vs. RHP Shohei Ohtani

Clarke (1-0, 6.75 ERA) makes his 8th appearance (1st start) this season. He has a 2.00 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 13.5 K/9 in 8 IP.

  • Threw 32 pitches in his last outing April 19: Allowed 3 ER on 4 H and 1 BB while fanning 2 in 1 IP
  • Features a 95-mph fastball, 90-mph changeup, 85-mph slider and 84-mph sweeper: opposing hitters are 5-for-9 (.556) against his fastball

Ohtani (2-0, 0.86 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 0.91 WHIP, 5.6 BB/9 and 11.6 K/9 in 21 IP.

  • Last start was cut short because of a rain delay: allowed 1 ER on 0 H, 1 BB and struck out 3 in 2 IP vs. Boston.
  • 2 career starts vs. KC: 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 17 K in 12 IP

Royals at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Angels 5, Royals 2

Moneyline

The Royals are 3-9 in the last 12 meetings in Angel Stadium, and there’s no reason to believe they can pull off the upset. There’s also no reason to rush to the app to risk 3 times your return when the Angels lost Ohtani’s 1st start of the season to the last-place A’s.

Instead, let’s roll with SHOHEI OHTANI OVER 18.5 OUTS (+125). He’ll have to be efficient, but he went 7 IP in his last start before the rain-shortened one and 8 IP in his last start against KC.

Run line/Against the spread

I stayed away from the ML, and I’m staying farther away from a RL of the Angels needing to win by 3.

Instead, let’s do a mini-One Game Parlay.

Take the ANGELS -1.5 + SHOHEI OHTANI 6+ STRIKEOUTS (+100).

Ohtani has struck out at least 6 in his last 11 starts (not affected by rain), dating back to last season.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The Under is 4-0 in the last 4 between the teams and 7-3-1 in the last 11 in LA. The Under has cashed in Ohtani’s last 6 starts against under-.500 teams. The juice is on the Over, though, because KC is going with a bullpen game, and the wind is blowing out to right-center at 10 mph.

So we have to trust the Angels’ offense to deliver an Over here or the bullpens to bring an Under.

No thanks. I’ll PASS.
