The Red River Rivalry and teams on upset alert headline this week’s roundtable

Who is on upset alert in Week 6?

For the last time as members of the Big 12, the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns will face off in the annual Red River Rivalry. This game dates back to 1900.

When it comes to rivalry games in college football there are a handful that even casual fans will tune in for. The Red River Rivalry is among the top five which includes “The Game” between Michigan and Ohio State, “The Iron Bowl” between Alabama and Auburn, the annual Army-Navy game, and “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” between Florida and Georgia.

This game is unique given that it takes place on the Texas State Fairgrounds while the Fair is simultaneously going on. The fans are split right down the middle at the 50-yard line. What a sight to behold prior to kickoff.

This Week 6 Big 12 showdown marks the 119th meeting between the flagship schools. Among other major matchups from Week 6, we have Alabama at Texas A&M and there is no love loss there between head coach Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher. LSU will travel to Columbia to face an unbeaten Missouri Tigers squad. Kentucky looks to snap the nation’s longest winning streak, which is held by No. 1 Georgia at 22 games.

Prior to the kickoff of Week 6, our staff weighs in on five burning questions in our weekly roundtable.

Five Burning Questions: Kansas Jayhawks seeking second win in Austin in as many chances

Who wins in Austin on Saturday? Texas or Kansas.

The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners are heading into Week 5 with a final tune-up game ahead of the Red River Rivalry game. For Texas, that means avenging the 57-56 loss in Austin against Kansas in 2021.

The Jayhawks have started 4-0 for the second year in a row, but moving to 5-0 after facing the Longhorns in Austin is a tall task. Quinn Ewers and the offense seem poised to finally get back to the New Years Six at the very least but all sights are set on the College Football Playoffs. To get there, they have to win these types of games.

As Week 5 sets to kick off on Thursday night, the College Wire staff answers five burning questions including who wins this matchup in Austin.

Roundtable: The Auburn Wire staff previews Saturday’s game with Samford

The guys share their final thoughts ahead of Saturday’s homecoming game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

The Auburn Tigers (2-0) return to Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday to face the Samford Bulldogs (1-1) in one final tune-up ahead of next weekend’s SEC opener at Texas A&M.

This week’s roundtable discusses several aspects of last week’s win at California and exhibits what the guys hope to see out of the Tigers in this weekend’s homecoming game.

Hugh Freeze’s use of quarterbacks has been a heavy discussion around the Plains, as well as the less-than-stellar season debut of running back Jarquez Hunter. Defensively, the Auburn Wire staff has different takes on who needs to step up this week, as well as which unit needs to perfect their craft ahead of next weekend’s game at Texas A&M.

Here’s what writers Taylor JonesJD McCarthy, and Brian Hauch are looking for in Auburn’s homecoming tilt with Samford.

College Wire Roundtable: 5 Burning questions as Week 2 approaches

The network tackles 5 questions about Week 2 including is Texas back with a win in Tuscaloosa?

Week 2 in college football brings several big Power Five matchups across the landscape.

The game that has everyone’s attention will be the Texas Longhorns heading to Tuscaloosa to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. This game is a rematch from last season’s Week 2 matchup in Austin, where the Tide survived.

We will also get a glimpse of another rematch. The Miami Hurricanes look for retribution against Texas A&M down on South Beach. Both teams were able to win their first game of the year fairly easily, how do they look against a Power Five opponent?

If you want to discuss must-watch TV, you have to look to Boulder, Colorado. Head coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes got the world’s attention with their 45-42 victory over TCU in Fort Worth. But what do they have in store for an encore as they host former Big 12 rival Nebraska in their home opener?

The College Wire network tackles these questions in the Week 2 roundtable.

College Wire Roundtable: Five burning questions for Week 1

The College Wire Network staff tackled five questions ahead of this weekend’s action.

On Thursday, Week 1 gets underway with a rematch from the 2022 season. The Utah Utes are welcoming the Florida Gators to Salt Lake City as they hope for some retribution. The loss to Florida didn’t hurt things in the grand scheme of things but it put the Utes behind the eight ball in terms of the CFP.

The Thursday night opener isn’t the only game that should hold the attention of the nation. On Sunday we get a top 10 matchup that is also a rematch from last season’s opener. The LSU Tigers want to get revenge for a one-point loss to Florida State. It should be a great matchup to tune in for. Both teams have College Football Playoff aspirations.

As we inch closer to kickoff, the College Wire Network weighed in on five questions from the most intriguing matchup to which coach has the best debut and everything in between.

Expert Predictions: Can the Gators open up the Napier era with a win?

Here’s how the Gators Wire staff and alumni sees things going down on Saturday.

The start of Florida football’s 2022 campaign is just a couple of days away as the Gators get set to host the Utah Utes this Saturday. The excitement is running high with new head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] making his debut in front of a sold-out crowd on what should be a hot and humid night in the Swamp.

The Orange and Blue face a formidable opponent in their Pac-12 counterparts, who come into the game ranked in the top 10 by both major polls carrying some lofty expectations of their own. Winners of their conference last year, the Beehive State boys return with a packed roster that includes former Gator [autotag]Mohamoud Diabate[/autotag], who headed out west via the transfer portal during the offseason.

With all of that in mind, the Gators Wire roundtable assembled to give their respective takes on the first game of the Napier era along with a composite result comprising of each person’s predictions. Take a look below at what the six of us had to say for the first game day of 2022.

Auburn Wire Roundtable: Bold predictions for the 2022 season

The Auburn Wire staff took a stab at their bold predictions for the upcoming season, as well as their breakout candidates.

We’re just 19 days away from the Auburn Tigers hosting the Mercer Bears at Jordan-Hare Stadium to kick off the 2022 college football season.

While the game is less than three weeks away, we still don’t have a clear picture as to who will be the starting quarterback. Zach Calzada was finally cleared in the summer and the true quarterback battle began as fall camp opened.

“It’s not just, hey that guy throws the ball perfectly or the best every time.” head coach Bryan Harsin said after Saturday’s scrimmage. “You want that, but how’s he operating? What’s he doing? Is this guy gonna help us in the run game, can he help us with his feet? Can he do some things in the pass game? So there’s a lot more other factors.

You leave the huddle and you come to the field and the tailbacks on the wrong side and he should be on the other side and you don’t correct it — that’s an opportunity to lead. That’s an opportunity for you as a quarterback to get things right. So those things happened. And you gotta be able to, you gotta know it. You gotta know your system.”

While the quarterback battle is ongoing, the Auburn Wire staff put together their bold predictions for the upcoming season. Spoiler alert, the quarterback situation wasn’t one of the predictions made for 2022.
