Terrell Wilfong talks about his Syracuse football commitment

Terrell Wilfong dives into his commitment to Syracuse this week.

Syracuse football has been hot on the recruiting trail, landing a three-star player this week in Terrell Wilfong.

Wilfong is a three-star wide receiver from West Orange High School (West Orange, New Jersey). He is the No. 15 player in the state according to Rivals.

His offer list included Boston College, Cincinnati, UConn, Maryland, Temple and West Virginia among others.

He is the second commit to Syracuse from New Jersey, an area that the program has traditionally used to supplement its roster. He is the fourteenth commit in this class for Syracuse.

“I chose ‘Cuse because it feels like a home away from home to me,”  Wilfong told USA TODAY High School Sports.

“The coaching staff treats me like family and I love everything that they’re doing over there and I want to be a part of it.”

Syracuse’s new head coach, Fran Brown, is doing a tremendous job in recruiting and landing top talent. He has a top staff for recruiting as well.

One of the stars of the staff is Ross Douglas, the wide receivers coach. Douglas was most recently the wide receivers coach at the New England Patriots before joining the Orange this offseason.

“Since the day they offered me it’s been nothing but love. Every week they would call and text, checking in on me and my family,” Wilfong said.

“And coach Ross is a great receivers coach and I feel as if he can help me become the best player I can possibly be.”

Wide receivers coach knew Patriots had steal when drafting Demario Douglas

Patriots wide receivers coach was surprised Demario Douglas was still on the draft board in the sixth round.

New England Patriots wide receivers coach Ross Douglas had high praise for rookie Demario Douglas, as the latter continues to make an impact on the football field.

The wide receivers coach couldn’t believe the former Liberty star was still available when the Patriots selected him in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft, as transcribed by A to Z Sports’ Sophie Weller.

“I was kind of surprised he was still on the board.” said Ross Douglas, when asked if he was excited for the Patriots to draft Demario Douglas in the sixth round.

The wideout had a big hand in Sunday’s 29-25 win over the Buffalo Bills. He recorded six catches for 54 yards, averaging 13.5 yards per reception. It was his highest output of the season so far.

This could be a sign that New England wants him more involved. Demario Douglas has only played in 118 snaps on the season. On top of that, he fumbled the ball in the team’s loss to the Miami Dolphins in September.

Nevertheless, the potential is clearly there. His emergence on Sunday is encouraging for the wide receiver position. New England will need his help to continue building on it.

Patriots’ 2023 coaching staff with job titles

Here’s the Patriots’ 2023 coaching staff with job titles

New England Patriots training camp starts next week, and the organization revealed the roles for the coaches in the upcoming season.

There are several familiar faces back on the coaching staff, as well as new additions. Some of the more notable roles include Joe Judge as the assistant head coach and Evan Rothstein as the assistant quarterbacks coach.

The staff shakeup comes on the heels of a difficult 2022 season for New England, who missed the playoffs for the second time in three years. They’re hopeful the new-look staff can create the necessary changes to get the Patriots back into postseason contention.

Here’s the coaching staff expected to lead the way to change in 2023:

NFL.com lists 4 Patriots assistants as future head coaching candidates

Four Patriots assistant named as future head coaching candidates.

The future is bright for the New England Patriots assistant coaching staff, as evident in NFL.com’s list of future head coaching candidates.

That giant sequoia that is Bill Belichick is still creating the most exciting up-and-coming talent in the league. Such is the case when you’re the greatest to ever do it.

But the rest of the football community has taken notice to the rising stars within the Patriots organization, including inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo (36), defensive line coach Demarcus Covington (33), tight ends coach Nick Caley (39) and Ross Douglas (27), who handles NFL coaching fellowship.

All four made Tom Pelissero’s list that was published on Thursday.

Mayo is obviously the name that stands out most considering the name he made for himself as a player before moving on to coaching the team. The former All-Pro linebacker is only coaching in his fourth year with the Patriots, and he has already had multiple head coaching interviews.

Covington is also an interesting name on the list considering the constant praise Patriots players have continued to heap on him.

“Head coach,” Patriots defensive lineman Davon Godchaux recently said on Covington. “He’s so detailed — great head coach one day.”

Meanwhile, Caley and Douglas are two more incredible up-and-coming talents that don’t get the recognition they deserve. So it was great to finally see them get some shine on this list as well.

Say whatever you want about the ongoing issues with Josh McDaniels in Las Vegas, but the future for assistant coaches in New England remains exceptionally radiant under Bill Belichick’s watch.

Report: Patriots hiring Richmond CBs coach Ross Douglas to staff

The Patriots continue to build out their staff.

The New England Patriots are hiring Richmond cornerbacks coach Ross Douglas for a quality control job, according to Yahoo!’s Peter Thamel. The quality control position is one of the entry-level position on New England’s coaching staff.

Douglas worked for Greg Schiano at Rutgers in 2020 during a three-year stint as a graduate assistant. Douglas also played 22 games at Rutgers in 2016 and 2017. In his final college season in 2017, the linebacker-safety hybrid started all 12 games with 38 tackles with four pass breakups. He started his college career at Michigan, but elected to transfer to the Scarlet Knights. He went undrafted in 2018, but spent time with the Steelers.

It’s not yet clear whether Douglas will be assigned to offense or defense. He joins a handful of Schiano’s former staffers on the Patriots.
