WWE Raw results 04/01/24: The Rock, Roman Reigns rule once again

Seth Rollins had a good plan B in Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes, but it ended up not mattering on WWE Raw in Brooklyn.

We’re less than a week away from WrestleMania 40. Wild, right? You know we’re getting quite close because The Rock and Roman Reigns will on on WWE Raw tonight from Brooklyn, which isn’t something that happens every week.

OK, in fairness, The Rock has been around an awful lot as of late. He’s really jumped headfirst into this Final Boss heel run, regardless of whether it was originally in the cards or not.

Before you try to get any jokes off about Reigns, he typically isn’t even on Raw, so Monday nights aren’t really his domain. But it’s WrestleMania week, and now all bets are off.

Ah, but there might be the rub. See, last time we saw The Bloodline, the entire group minus Reigns was ruining last week’s episode of Raw for Cody Rhodes. Things got so bad for the American Nightmare that he ended up taking an extended beating from The Rock, one that was so one-sided that Rhodes could neither fight back nor object to hearing “look at you now” about 75 times.

Was that worse than being bloodied? You decide!

Seriously, though, it seems a bit unlikely that Rhodes would just let The Bloodline flaunt what they did without attempting to get some measure of revenge. Cody has sufficient backup in the form of Seth Rollins and Jey Uso, both of whom had his back last week, so … let’s just say it would be strange indeed if he didn’t show up trying to settle the score in Brooklyn.

There is indeed other stuff advertised for this show, including a Sami Zayn-Bronson Reed rematch, a women’s tag team match that will likely feature Candice LeRae acting horrible again, and The New Day teaming with #DIY against The Judgment Day. But Rock and Roman are where it’s at, and they might want to keep their guard up.

Let’s head to Barclays Center and see what’s what.

WWE Raw results from Brooklyn:

(please scroll down for more details on any match or segment in bold)

  • As one might expect, the show begins with a recap of the stuff between The Rock and Cody Rhodes from last week’s episode of Raw
  • The Rock is in Brooklyn and he’s not alone, but does Seth Rollins bite off more than he can chew?
  • Footage is shown on Becky Lynch confronting Rhea Ripley on “The MMA Hour” earlier today; afterward, Cathy Kelley asks Lynch about it, and The Man says she’ll be in the ring later if Rhea wants to do something about it
  • The Judgment Day def. The New Day and #DIY by pinfall
  • The Rock says goodbye to Reigns, who is off to write his speech … because he’ll be inducting Paul Heyman into the WWE Hall of Fame Friday night
  • A classic training montage is shown of Sami Zayn training with Chad Gable and Alpha Academy to prepare him for Gunther
  • The Judgment Day gets a visit from Legado Del Fantasma, and Dom’s teammates aren’t crazy about him inviting Santos Escobar and company into their clubhouse
  • Sami Zayn vs. Bronson Reed ends suddenly as Gunther attacks Gable, then Sami
  • Jey Uso runs into Lil Wayne backstage, and Weezy says he’s going to premier a new single at WrestleMania
  • Ivy Nile and Maxxine Dupri def. Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell by pinfall after Dupri dropkicks Hartwell into LeRae on the apron while the two are bickering (though only after Candice looks like she’s up to her dirty tricks again)
  • Jey tells Seth he has his back the same way Seth had his last week; they take a walk and talk strategy
  • A video promo by Drew McIntyre has the Scottish Warrior delivering what appears to be a eulogy for Seth Rollins’ career while also getting in some shots at CM Punk

  • Ricochet def. Ivar by pinfall, somehow hitting the big man with a fallaway slam along the way, hot damn
  • Damian Priest is upset that Ricochet hasn’t been handled yet, so JD McDonagh says he’ll take care of him during the Andre the Giant Battle Royal, and Dom says Andrade can handle it, offering him full membership if he does
  • Becky Lynch is looking for a fight, and she gets a brief one from Rhea Ripley
  • Dakota Kai and Damage CTRL say they’ll prove at WrestleMania that they are the future while also proving something in the ring tonight
  • Pearce is still struggling to get the Lynch-Ripley fracas under control backstage
  • Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai and Kabuki Warriors) def. Shayna Baszler, Tegan Nox and Zoey Stark by pinfall
  • Michael Cole and Pat McAfee run down the WrestleMania XL card; we do the same thing here
  • Kelley asks Rollins why he’d take on this match tonight so close to double duty at WrestleMania, and along with saying he only knows one speed, he says he always has a plan B; on his way to the ring, though, he runs into McIntyre, and says “I ain’t dead yet” while heading for the curtain
  • Seth Rollins vs. Solo Sikoa ends in a no contest in a Bloodline Rules match, as The Rock and Reigns end up beating the heck out of Cody and Seth to end the show

The Rock is in Brooklyn and so is Roman Reigns, but neither of them are fighting Seth Rollins tonight

The Rock is a man of his word: He told Cody Rhodes he’d make him bleed, and that’s exactly what he did. And all the Cody Crybabies didn’t like that.

Though he mocks grown adults for crying about it, there were some reactions that stopped The Rock in his tracks. Namely, little kids crying on social media. Stuff like that breaks The Rock’s heart, however … there are moments in life when a man’s gotta to what a man’s gotta do.

The Rock repeats his assertion that professional wrestling is cool again and ratings have skyrocketed because of The Rock. Finally, The Final Boss has come back to Brooklyn, which gets most of the fans chanting “Rocky.”

But he didn’t come alone, as the rest of The Bloodline arrives. Roman Reigns gets Brooklyn to acknowledge him, then talks about the motto on his hoodie: “Family Above All.” He says it’s how he’s always operated, and he came to Raw to acknowledge his family.

“No yeet,” he says to the the chorus of “Yeet” chants, threatening to leave if the fans continue. Reigns says he wants to thank his cousin for making this the easiest WrestleMania of his life. He says they’re going to smash Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the tag team match and then have their way with Cody on Sunday.

But The Rock went above and beyond, making Cody bleed. Reigns insists that Rhodes only wanted to be part of WWE once he saw it was becoming cool again, but while they allowed him to be involved, this is far enough.

We’ll never know what Reigns intended to say next, as Seth Rollins’ music hits and the World Heavyweight Champion descends from the crowd like he did in The Shield era. Rollins says he’s not stupid enough to fall into their trap in the ring, and if they want a piece of him, they’ll have to come up in the crowd and fight the whole city of Brooklyn.

Rollins says the time for talk is over and he wants a fight — and tonight, not five days from now. Specifically, he asks for the biggest main event of all time and challenges The Rock to a match tonight. Or Reigns, he doesn’t care, nor does he mind if they set a stipulation. Who’s got the balls, he wonders.

The fans chant for Rocky again, and he’s incredulous, saying Seth doesn’t want any of that. Rollins isn’t going to fight The Rock or Reigns, as you expected, but since they always have a plan, they step aside and let Solo Sikoa step up.

Sikoa says he’s fighting Rollins, and Seth agrees, but The Rock says it’s Bloodline Rules.

Becky Lynch and Rhea Ripley ignore the GM, start a brief scrap

No more talking for The Man. She wants a fight with Rhea Ripley right now. But General Manager Adam Pearce isn’t about that life, saying he needs to save that for WrestleMania and respectfully asks her to leave the ring.

Ripley comes out right after that, and Pearce tries to calm her down too. Rhea tosses her title belt to Pearce, powers through some security guards and heads to the ring.

The two WrestleMania opponents scrap, breaking free from security guards until Lynch dives from the top rope onto Ripley and a bunch of the guards on the floor. They’re eventually pulled apart just by sheer numbers.

Seth Rollins can’t defeat Solo Sikoa, as Bloodline Rules turns out to be literal

Rollins hits a suicide dive as soon as the bell rings, clearly not sitting back and letting Sikoa settle in. The fans challenge the record for least time passed before chanting for tables as Sikoa is hurled into the steel steps.

Heading behind the timekeeper’s area, Rollins starts chucking chair after chair at Solo, then DDTs him on a chair as well. The rest of The Bloodline might want to check on their boy.

A big cheer erupts from the fans as Rollins goes under the ring for a table setting it up in the ring. That backfires, however, when Sikoa meets him on the top turnbuckle and treats him to an Avalanche Samoan Drop to smash through it.

After commercials, Rollins has rebounded nicely, getting out a second table. Seth looks like he might go through that one too, with Solo looking for the same move. This time, Rollins pulls off the sunset flip, powerbombing Sikoa through the table. He wants a Stomp but is attacked by Jimmy Uso, who soon has to leave to deal with the incoming Jey Uso.

Unfortunately, Jey runs into The Rock, who quickly chucks Jey into the video board. The Final Boss heads for the ring and menaces Rollins. But Seth simply smiles, because Cody Rhodes’ music hits and the American Nightmare runs to the ring.

Rhodes unleashes on The Rock, then joins Rollins in clearing off the announce table. Cody looks for a Rock Bottom but is wiped out by Roman Reigns (who came out from beneath the ring), and now it’s a proper four-man melee.

The fans chant for CM Punk, but Reigns lays out Rollins with a Superman punch and spears Rhodes. Roman yells “this is it, this is everything” at Cody, then hugs The Rock. Reigns looks at his watch and The Rock takes off Cody’s belt, lashing both Rhodes and Rollins before tossing it to Reigns to do the same.

Sikoa is then ordered to hold Rhodes in place so The Rock can lash him again. The Rock holds up Cody’s belt and Roman raises his title belt as boos rain down on them. The Rock lays into Cody one more time as the show goes off the air.

WrestleMania night 2 card: All matches confirmed for April 7

A look at WWE’s match card for night 2 of WrestleMania 40.

Once again, WrestleMania takes place over two electrifying nights. Set to unfold from April 6 to 7 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, this year’s event promises to be a spectacle, spotlighting WWE’s top talents and culminating the year’s top storylines.

Night 1’s main event has implications for night 2’s headlining match, Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Should Rhodes and Seth Rollins emerge victorious, all members of The Bloodline will be banned from ringside on night 2. However, should Reigns and Rock win, the championship match will be Bloodline Rules.

Rollins will also compete on night 2, defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre. While the spotlight has focused on the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, don’t overlook this match, as it stands among the weekend’s top bouts. The Architect puts his near-year-long title reign on the line against a superstar riding a wave of momentum, both in the ring and on the microphone, and though this won’t main event, it should prove noteworthy.

With Damage CTRL ousting her from the group, Bayley will use her Royal Rumble win by challenging IYO SKY for the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. It’s an opportunity for Bayley to receive a moment years in the making, and Philadelphia could be where she shines.

Recall when AJ Styles flew around the world to cost LA Knight a WrestleMania title match? After weeks of escalating tensions, the stage is set for these two to clash and settle the score once and for all.

WrestleMania night 2 goes down on Sunday, April 7 from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Latest update: April 1, 2024, 9:53 p.m. ET.

WWE WrestleMania 40 Night 2 card:

  • Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes – Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match
  • Seth Rollins (c) vs. Drew McIntyre – World Heavyweight Championship match
  • IYO SKY (c) vs. Bayley – WWE Women’s Championship match
  • Logan Paul (c) vs. Kevin Owens vs. Randy Orton – WWE United States Championship match
  • LA Knight vs. AJ Styles
  • Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits vs. The Final Testament – Philadelphia Street Fight

WrestleMania night 1 card: All matches confirmed for April 6

A look at WWE’s match card for night 1 of WrestleMania 40.

As WrestleMania 40 approaches, the card nears completion, with a long list of matches set to unfold during the two-night extravaganza at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. WWE’s plans potentially shape this to be the biggest edition of the Grandest Stage of Them All, as some of the top talent of the past and present will compete and create moments to last a lifetime.

With so many planned matches, not all of them will be on one night, which is how it used to be. It gives each match more breathing room, rather than packing a bunch of short matches across just one night.

Night 1 of WrestleMania takes place on Saturday, April 6, headlined by Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns and The Rock, who will compete in his first full match in more than a decade.

[lawrence-related id=47271]

This monumental tag match has night 2 implications as if Rhodes and Rollins win, tall members of The Bloodline will be banned from ringside for Rhodes vs. Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. If Reigns and The Rock win, the title match is Bloodline Rules, allowing anyone from Solo Sikoa to Jimmy Uso to interfere.

WWE also confirmed that Gunther will defend his Intercontinental Championship on night 1 against Sami Zayn, as well. With the Imperium leader’s record-breaking title run on the line, it could mark a historic moment for the Canadian star’s career if he wins.

WrestleMania night 1 goes down on Saturday, April 6 from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Latest update: April 1, 2024, 9:08 p.m. ET.

WWE WrestleMania 40 Night 1 card:

  • Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns and The Rock – If Rhodes and Rollins win, then all members of The Bloodline will be barred from ringside during Rhodes’s Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match against Reigns on Night 2; however, if Reigns and Rock win, then the championship match will be Bloodline Rules
  • Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Becky Lynch – Women’s World Champion
  • Gunther (c) vs. Sami Zayn – WWE Intercontinental Championship match
  • The Judgment Day (Finn Bálor and Damian Priest) (c) vs. #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) vs. The Awesome Truth (The Miz and R-Truth) vs. The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) vs. A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory and Grayson Waller) vs. New Catch Republic (Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate) – Six-Pack Ladder match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship
  • Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso
  • Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill and Naomi vs. Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai, Asuka and Kairi Sane)
  • Rey Mysterio and Andrade vs. Dominik Mysterio and Santos Escobar

WWE Raw preview 04/01/24: Will Cody Rhodes look for payback against The Rock?

Expect some more WrestleMania-related surprises tonight on WWE Raw from Brooklyn.

Turnabout is fair play, or at least that’s what they say. It’s an adage to keep in mind as we head into the final WWE Raw before WrestleMania, live from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Rock and Roman Reigns will be in Brooklyn, but will Cody?

Cody Rhodes got the unpleasant surprise of the year so far last week on Raw, when The Rock showed up unannounced. He wasn’t alone either, and when the smoke cleared, Rhodes was bloody and battered out in the rain.

We know The Rock and Roman Reigns will be on hand for Raw tonight. This is Cody’s show, so surely he’s not going to let The Bloodline go without looking for revenge. It could be a wild scene in Brooklyn if last week was any indication.

Will anyone be able to stop Candice LeRae?

One of the more interesting midcard stories of the last few weeks has been the transformation in Candice LeRae. While she had been a “nice to her own detriment” face, she suddenly flipped a switch and became an “ends justify the means” heel.

That clearly hasn’t sat well with her tag team partner Indi Hartwell, who not only has a conscience but is losing friends over Candice’s actions. They’ll team again tonight to face Ivy Nile and Maxxine Dupri, but you have to wonder if Hartwell will finally be fed up enough to say or do something to her partner.

WWE Raw card for Brooklyn:

  • The Rock and Roman Reigns will both be in the house
  • Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell vs. Ivy Nile and Maxxine Dupri
  • The Judgment Day vs. #DIY and The New Day

Incredibly, we’re just five days away from WrestleMania 40, so you won’t want to miss any of the shows this week. We’ll make sure you’re covered with live WWE Raw results and updates tonight, so join us back here at Wrestling Junkie to keep up with the latest.

Paul Heyman: Roman Reigns felt he ‘wasn’t coming back’ to WWE during pandemic

WWE without the Tribal Chief? Paul Heyman says it was a possibility back in 2020.

It’s hard to imagine what WWE would have been like over the past few years without Roman Reigns ruling over The Bloodline — and really the entire company — as the Tribal Chief.

Reigns has been the centerpiece of everything WWE has done since before WrestleMania 38, so it’s a wild “what if” to even ponder how things would be different if he wasn’t around. Yet according to Paul Heyman, that possibility isn’t as remote as one might think.

In an interview with Uproxx ahead of the “Biography: WWE Legends” episode devoted to Reigns on March 31, Heyman said that because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Reigns “considered himself retired” and there was some legitimate thought that he might not come back.

I was executive director of Monday Night Raw, and Roman was assigned to SmackDown. But every week I heard all the SmackDown writers and producers and personnel saying, ‘God, I just wish Roman would come back.’ And I would ask, has anybody talked to him? Yeah, he says he’s retired. He’s not coming back. No way. Thanks a lot. Done. Finished. Goodbye. So the fact that he came back for this run, for what we have accomplished, is nothing short of a miracle because as far as he was concerned, he was out.

Reigns had more reason to be wary of performing the pandemic than most, as he revealed in 2018 that he had long been dealing with chronic myeloid leukemia. As a result of that disease’s effects on his immune system, he was in a high risk group when it came to COVID-19.

That fact caused Reigns, who had originally been heavily advertised for WrestleMania 36 in 2020, to ask to be removed from the card and his planned match against Goldberg. Reigns returned later that year at SummerSlam, attacking The Fiend and Braun Strowman and linking up with Heyman for the first time a few days later on SmackDown.

The rest, as they say, is WWE history, the kind that Reigns will continue to add to at WrestleMania 40. When Reigns finally does retire for real, it will be interesting to look back and see how much of his legacy almost didn’t get written.

Exclusive ‘Biography: WWE Legends’ sneak peek: John Cena calls Roman Reigns ‘the greatest of all time’

The Undertaker and Hulk Hogan also offer lofty praise for Roman Reigns as the face of WWE.

WWE has been marketing John Cena in his most recent appearances as “The Greatest of All Time,” and it’s hard to argue against that honor for the 16-time world champion. But who would Cena himself anoint as the GOAT?

It’s a champion with a few other nicknames of his own. The Tribal Chief. The Head of the Table. It’s Roman Reigns, who is preparing to head to WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia to put his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on the line on night 2 in a rematch against Cody Rhodes — but only after he teams with The Rock to battle Rhodes and Seth Rollins on night 1.

Reigns just happens to be the subject of the pre-WrestleMania episode of “Biography: WWE Legends” (probably no coincidence, that), and in the exclusive clip below, you can Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker and Reigns’ Special Counsel, Paul Heyman, talk about why they feel he’s ascended to the very top of WWE and is uniquely suited to remain there.

But it’s Cena who offers the most succinct and high praise.

“We only recognize something when we romanticize about it, when we look back on it,” Cena says. “I hope there’s a few more folks out there that can realize that Roman Reigns is a very unique individual. There’s never been a performer like him.

“Roman Reigns as the Tribal Chief is the greatest of all time.”

The Roman Reigns episode of “Biography: WWE Legends” is set to premiere this Sunday, March 31, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on A&E. It follows a new episode of “WWE Rivals” that focuses on The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

You can also find full episodes of A&E’s WWE shows as soon as the next day on aetv.com and for free on YouTube, and they make for some perfect viewing as we prepare for WrestleMania 40 in less than two weeks.

WWE SmackDown results 03/22/24: Cody Rhodes comes prepared for Bloodline hijinks

Turns out that neither Roman Reigns nor Cody Rhodes really kept their word on WWE SmackDown in Milwaukee.

Promises are a funny thing. Even villains, when they have a code of honor, can keep them, and there’s a big one that is at the heart of tonight’s WWE SmackDown from Milwaukee.

This week on Raw, Roman Reigns gave his word via Paul Heyman that he wanted to talk to Cody Rhodes on SmackDown and that he’d show up alone — no other Bloodline except for Heyman. In return, he asked that Rhodes also bring no backup, and Cody agreed.

It was somewhat reminiscent of the kind of agreement you’d see in movies, like a hostage exchange or drop of some sort. Meet me at this place, at this time, no cops.

Whether Reigns actually follows through will tell us a lot about how he’s feeling on the Road to WrestleMania. Does it make sense, at this point in his tale, that he’d be confident enough to stand across from Cody with no contingency plan? He did defeat Rhodes last year at WrestleMania, after all.

Or is Roman now paranoid and willing to go back on his word, a sign he’d do anything to keep the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship from even possibly slipping through his grasp?

It’ll also be nice to see Reigns take center stage on the Bloodline portion of things, as he’s been somewhat upstaged by The Rock the last few weeks. Pretty sure that’s never going to come up again somewhere down the road. Yep, probably never. Wink, wink.

There are important tag team matches in store as well, which will help shape the Tag Team Ladder match at WrestleMania. Buckle up and prepare, Milwaukee, because here we go.

WWE SmackDown results from Milwaukee:

(please scroll down for more details on any match or segment in bold)

  • Cody Rhodes and Damage CTRL are shown entering the arena
  • Santos Escobar def. Rey Mysterio by pinfall, in large part due to a distraction from Dominik Mysterio
  • Bayley thanks Naomi for helping her last week, but Bianca Belair hasn’t forgiven the Role Model for what she did as leader of Damage CTRL, and Naomi ends up having to step between them as they bicker
  • Backstage, Bianca and Naomi continue to have a conversation, to which Naomi says she can’t change what’s happened in the past and won’t back down when Damage CTRL is picking them off one by one
  • Austin Theory and Grayson Waller def. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows by pinfall in a Tag Team Championship Qualifying Match, with Theory using the ropes for leverage to aid in his pinfall
  • A hype video pushes Bron Breakker as a superior athlete
  • Highlights are shown from Roman Reigns’ appearance on “The  Pat McAfee Show”
  • IYO SKY def. Naomi by pinfall thanks to aid from Damage CTRL; after the match, Naomi gets a dose of the poison mist from Asuka before Bianca Belair hits the ring with a vengeance, and is able to do pretty well against the whole group until numbers wear her down
  • Jade Cargill will make her first official appearance as a SmackDown superstar next week
  • Tiffany Stratton mocks Naomi as she’s trying to get the mist rinsed out of her eyes
  • Nick Aldis is talking to Kevin Owens when they’re interrupted by Pretty Deadly, and KO ends up challenging them to a tag team match alongside Randy Orton; K.O. ends up punching both members of Pretty Deadly in the face at once, as he does
  • Footage is shown of LA Knight rolling up at the house of AJ Styles and starting a fight with him, then dashcam video shows Knight getting arrested

  • Street Profits def. Authors of Pain by pinfall in a Tag Team Championship Qualifying Match
  • Paul Heyman is on the phone telling Roman Reigns that Cody Rhodes is here alone, and that his public awaits
  • Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes go face to face, and when it turns out Reigns actually did bring The Bloodline with him, Cody has backup too in the form of Jey Uso and Seth Rollins

Naomi learns going it alone against IYO SKY isn’t really a great idea

Is IYO even going to make it out to the ring? Cameras find her backstage scrapping with Bayley, but she gets the better of it and refs finally tell the WWE Women’s Champion to get to the ring.

SKY has to weather an early storm, and the crowd gets behind Naomi as she rallies to hit a springboard bulldog of sorts for a near fall that leads to a commercial break.

Yes Corey Graves, Milwaukee is starting to feel the glow after the break. She splashes into a split but gets only another two count.

You feel like Damage CTRL is going to interfere at some point, and perhaps others may get involved too. Maybe soon after Naomi hits a superplex and rolls through to produce another near fall.

Ah here come the Kabuki Warriors and Dakota Kai, perfectly timed to set their leader up for an Over the Moonsault to win it.

Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes exchange insults, and neither came alone

So far so good for Reigns sticking to his word, as Roman comes to the ring accompanied only by Paul Heyman. The Tribal Chief asks for and is handed a mic, talking about how he kept his word and showed up without the Bloodline. He asks everyone to acknowledge him while Cody is shown walking toward the entrance.

After commercials, Rhodes makes his way out to join Reigns in the ring. Cody says he’s as much a man of his word and also came alone, to which Roman calls him a fool.

From Reigns’ perspective, Rhodes is unfit for the position of face of the company. He scoffs at Cody aligning himself with Seth Rollins, reminding Rhodes that Rollins eventually stabbed him in the back.

Cody of course remembers The Shield, but asks if Roman remembers the first team that defeated them. He also says he has his “bullet cufflinks” on so he knows all about factions and betrayals, and he’s banking on Rollins hating Reigns more than he hates Cody.

There’s also a good question: Can Roman trust The Rock? Who’s really in charge of The Bloodline anyway, the Tribal Chief or the Final Boss? A “Roman sucks” chant breaks out in response.

Reigns retorts that Rhodes said the same thing to The Rock in reverse, then ridicules him for promising things and failing to deliver like a politician. All Cody will ever be is No. 2, while he’s No. 1 … forever.

Talking about how Reigns grew up in the business like he did, Rhodes says he’s accepted the idea that the next generation of youngsters will grow up wanting to be the next Roman. Cody disagrees about being No. 2, though, saying he’s the one and offering a handshake and good luck at WrestleMania.

Reigns shakes Heyman’s hand instead and they leave the ring. But Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa are approaching the ring through the crowd, and the American Nightmare looks surrounded.

Cody cracks a smile, though, as Jey Uso and Seth Rollins are also out in the crowd. It’s a big standoff to end the show, like something out of a movie.

WWE SmackDown preview 03/22/24: Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes face off

WWE SmackDown from Milwaukee will also see two teams get closer to qualifying for the Ladder match at WrestleMania.

[anyclip-media thumbnail=”https://cdn5.anyclip.com/jKXbUY4BqNyVd1U-evbi/1710770412199_248x140_thumbnail.jpg” playlistId=”undefined” content=”PHNjcmlwdCBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWVyLnBvcHRvay5jb20vYW55Y2xpcC13aWRnZXQvbHJlLXdpZGdldC9wcm9kL3YxL3NyYy9scmUuanMiIGRhdGEtYXI9IjE2OjkiIGRhdGEtcGxpZD0ibmpmdnF5c3ZsZTJlZTRrb3BmbGdpbWt2ZnZzeG15dGoiIHB1Ym5hbWU9IjE5OTgiIHdpZGdldG5hbWU9IjAwMTZNMDAwMDJVMEIxa1FBRl9NODMzMCI+Cjwvc2NyaXB0Pg==”][/anyclip-media]

Paul Heyman says Roman Reigns is a Tribal Chief of his word. Whether Cody Rhodes can truly trust that or not is an issue at the very heart of tonight’s WWE SmackDown from Milwaukee.

What will Cody, Roman want to talk about — and will they do it alone?

Even though Reigns and Rhodes are no strangers to each other, it’s only right that they have another face-to-face meeting before they fight not once but twice at WrestleMania 40. It’s good that they are, too, because as one of the Wrestling Junkie staffers said last week, it was starting to feel like Cody vs. The Rock was the main event since they’ve been interacting the most.

That shouldn’t happen tonight, as The Rock isn’t scheduled to be here and Reigns promised (via Heyman) that no other members of The Bloodline would be on hand. If we were Reigns, though, we’d have Seth Rollins or Jey Uso on speed dial. You know, just in case.

Can Rey Mysterio get some revenge against Santos Escobar?

One of the pieces of the WrestleMania 40 puzzle that hasn’t quite fallen into place yet is the one concerning Legado Del Fantasma and the LWO. Will there be a multi-person match of some sort? We might get an idea tonight.

On the surface, it’s going to be Rey Mysterio vs. Santos Escobar one on one. But while that sounds great on paper, it seems unlikely that no one from their respective groups will try to get involved. And if that happens, a match could very well be made for Philly by the end of the night.

Who will get closer to joining the teams in the Six-Pack Ladder match at WrestleMania?

There are two spots left in the Ladder match at the Show of Shows, and there still will be by the time SmackDown fades to black. But two teams will advance one more step in two separate matches, one of which is very interesting.

Let’s deal with the one that should be by the books first. Austin Theory and Grayson Waller will take on the Good Brothers and … let’s be real, Anderson and Gallows haven’t done anything as of late to make one think they’ll be competing for gold at WrestleMania.

The other match pits the Street Profits against Authors of Pain. Not only could you see either team in the Ladder match, it’s going to be a continuation of the beef between Bobby Lashley and the Profits (please give them a stable name already) and The Final Testament. Should be intriguing.

We’re going to tear ourselves away from college hoops for a few hours tonight to recap all the action live, so join us back here at Wrestling Junkie at 8 p.m. ET for all the latest.

WWE WrestleMania 40 predictions: Roman Reigns will turn face (but lose his title)

What would get WWE fans to legitimately side with the Head of the Table once WrestleMania 40 is over? Here are a few ideas

Of all the many things Roman Reigns has been during his historic Universal Championship reign, a sympathetic figure is not one of them.

That’s what happens when you:

  • Hold both of the men’s world titles, forcing WWE to create another one for wrestlers to chase.
  • Manipulate your own family members to (mostly) do your bidding without question, then use them to ensure you don’t lose your grip on those consolidated titles.
  • Beat just about everyone (sometimes with help, granted), to back up your claims of being the top guy in the industry.
  • Brag about smashing everyone, knowing there’s nothing anyone can really say to dispute it.

Throughout the saga of The Bloodline, the one constant has been Reigns’ masterful portrayal of the Tribal Chief. It’s been the perfect marriage of well-defined role and a man who was born to play it.

Reigns has been the champ you love to hate (or in some cases, hate to love). The guy the top faces long to dethrone then agonize when they can’t.

Why would anyone ever feel sorry for him?

The answer is that they wouldn’t, at least not yet. And they won’t after Night 1 in Philadelphia, where it’s expected that Reigns and The Rock will win the tag team match against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, making his Night 2 rematch with Rhodes a Bloodline Rules affair.

That will mean the hours between late Saturday night and Sunday evening will be the peak of Roman’s power. Everything will be pointing toward a second consecutive defeat of Rhodes thanks to the deck being stacked in his favor, and then it’s on to see if he can pass Hulk Hogan on the list of longest WWE world title reigns.

But of course, there’s only one way to go from there: down.

I’m not exactly sure what’s going to happen on WrestleMania Sunday, and I’m glad that’s the case. Wrestling is always better when there’s at least some degree of uncertainty in how things will play out, even when you feel a certain outcome is likely.

In other words, I don’t know how Reigns will lose in Philadelphia, but I think he will. Furthermore, I believe fans will sympathize with him when it happens, even if they don’t realize it in the moment because they’re going to be so damn excited at seeing Rhodes with the championship.

The wild card in this whole equation is The Rock. It’s safe to say that with rumors continually circulating that WWE hasn’t given up on a Rock vs. Roman match, even if it’s much later in 2024 or at WrestleMania 41, most people believe that Reigns will continue on as he has been and The Rock will flip back to being a fan favorite.

The more I think about it, the less sense that makes. Part of it is because The Rock has taken to life as a heel again with such gusto — regardless of whether it was planned that way from the start — that it would be silly to just have him reverse course.

This is a man having the time of his middle aged life:

So let’s imagine another path for him. Maybe The Rock chafes at having to acknowledge Reigns as his Tribal Chief, as he did earlier this month. Perhaps he just find Reigns losing after he did his part to put the Night 2 main event on a silver platter for him distasteful and launches a coup inside The Bloodline.

Somehow, some way, things are going to fall apart for Reigns, and it’s not hard to imagine The Rock playing opportunist when it does. There are lots of little details WWE can play with to rub salt in Roman’s wounds; for instance, after Solo Sikoa has been his most stalwart soldier, how agonizing would it be for Reigns to see him side with The Rock?

Playing into all of this is the idea that it wouldn’t be surprising to see Reigns take an extended break from WWE after WrestleMania. He works a limited schedule as it is, and we have a running joke on the Wrestling Junkie Slack that maybe he just stays away and chills until SummerSlam. In the meantime, even if he’s only around every once in a while, The Rock looms as the new evil mastermind of The Bloodline, pulling strings and reveling in Roman’s downfall.

(It’s worth adding that I fully expect Drew McIntyre to defeat Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship, so it’s not like we’re going to have two faces with the world titles heading into the summer.)

When Reigns returns, the natural inclination for fans to miss top wrestlers when they’re gone will kick in, making it the perfect time for him to embrace life as a fan favorite again. To be clear, he’s not going to be the kind of traditional, straight up babyface that Rhodes is, but he shouldn’t be since Cody already has that spot filled to a tee.

This is going to be an angry Roman looking for some payback. He won’t need anyone’s pity, but the fans will feel for him. And let’s face it, a lot of people at WWE shows are just looking for a reason to feel it’s OK to cheer him at this point. A face Roman vs. a heel Rock is a monster matchup whenever it comes together.

I’m not saying this is guaranteed to be the direction Reigns takes after losing his championship, but I won’t be stunned if it is. And having it start in Philadelphia, the place he was once supposed to be cheered but instead got mercilessly booed, will be the best kind of full circle moment possible.

How to watch WWE WrestleMania 40: Live stream US, international

A look at how to watch WWE WrestleMania 40.

WrestleMania is always the most anticipated part of the WWE calendar. It marks the pinnacle of WWE’s major storylines, unfolding on a grand stage while often sparking memorable moments that linger in the minds of fans for years, whether they are celebrated or infamous.

WrestleMania 39 shocked fans when Cody Rhodes lost the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match to Roman Reigns in the main event. It appeared WWE was gearing up for a rematch between the two at WrestleMania 40, and indeed, that’s what happened.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson once looked like Reigns’ challenger in the main event at Lincoln Financial Field. However, after some furious fan backlash, at the WrestleMania press conference in February, Rhodes, winner of the Royal Rumble match, chose Reigns as his opponent for the Show of Shows.

Before this, on Night 1 of WrestleMania, Rhodes and Seth Rollins will face The Rock and Reigns in a tag match. If the latter team wins, The Bloodline can interfere in Reigns vs. Rhodes on Night 2.

The American Nightmare will have the chance to finish his story. Failing to do so casts doubt on when he’ll return to the main event scene, along with WWE’s timeline to pull the title off Reigns and have it prominently featured on weekly programming again. It’s a potentially transformative moment for WWE if they choose to shift from the Tribal Chief and usher in a new era, but are they ready to make this move?

The action will transpire across two nights, on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7. Here’s what you need to know to watch WrestleMania:
