Kevin Holland after UFC 307 loss to Roman Dolidze

“Honest answer: No, (I wasn’t unsatisfied). A win is a win. I don’t want to create a beautiful image (of my win), but it is how it is. We all get something happen with us – I have torn biceps, torn chest, a lot of different crazy injuries. I know how it is.”

Dolidze on getting his black belt

UFC 307 results: Kevin Holland unable to continue after rib injury vs. Roman Dolidze

Kevin Holland was in severe pain as he walked back to coach Bob Perez in the corner at UFC 307.

[autotag]Kevin Holland[/autotag]’s brain wanted more at UFC 307 but his body didn’t allow for it.

In a middleweight bout on Saturday’s main card at Delta Center in Salt Lake City, [autotag]Roman Dolidze[/autotag] (14-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) defeated Holland (26-12 MMA, 13-9 UFC) by TKO due to injury between Round 1 and 2.

Holland found success on the feet early, but when taken down suffered a rib injury when grappling with Dolidze. Initially, a wounded Holland covered up as Dolidze rained down punches from mount. Holland covered up, bobbed, weaved and blocked the strikes. He even barked up at Dolidze from the bottom.

When the end-of-round horn sounded and it was time for Holland to get up off the canvas, he winced in significant pain and complained to his corner that his ribs were not right. Coach Bob Perez asked his fighter to be honest and seemed uneasy about Holland returning to test himself in Round 2. Eventually, Perez told referee Jason Herzog that Holland was done.

Holland seemed at peace with that decision as he immediately went and shook hands with Dolidze, who was awarded his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt by coach Eric Nicksick.

Perez made a similar call in December 2022 when Holland severely broke his hand during a fight vs. Stephen Thompson. After the fight, Perez shed light on his role in protecting his fighters in an interview with MMA Junkie.

With the win, Dolidze has won back-to-back fights.

In defeat, Holland has lost three of his most recent four bouts.

The early prelims begin at 6:30 p.m. ET, and can be viewed on ESPN+. The prelims begin at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNews/ESPN+, and the main card begins at 10 p.m. ET on Pay-Per-View.

Records: Dolidze (13-3-0) | Holland (26-11-0)

The Georgian fighter Dolidze stopped a 2-bout losing skid with a unanimous-decision win over Anthony Smith last time out at UFC 303 in late June. His previous setbacks were by majority decision to Nassourdine Imavov, and unanimous decision against Marvin Vettori. That means 3 straight fights have gone the distance, and 6 of his past 9 fights.

For Holland, he stopped Michal Oleksiejczuk via submission in 94 seconds at UFC 302 in early June. He also snapped a 2-bout losing streak which included a unanimous-decision loss to Michael Page and a split-decision loss to Jack Della Maddalena.

The 36-year-old Dolidze is 5 years older, and Holland holds a 5-inch reach advantage. Holland also has a 4.25-to-3.13 significant strikes landed per minute advantage, while landing 61.22% of those strikes, while Dolidze lands 50.31% of those strikes.

In the ground game, Dolidze is a little better, posting a 1.26-to-0.84 takedown average advantage, while he is slightly more accurate on those takedowns at 40.0%. He also has a 1.14-to-0.60 submission average advantage.

UFC 307: Dolidze vs. Holland picks and predictions

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

HOLLAND (-150) is a strong bet straight up as a moderate favorite against Dolidze (+125).

The young fighter will use his tremendous reach advantage to push and pull Dolidze away at his discretion, picking and choosing his spots to get close when he needs to.

With the recent history of these 2 fighters, it’s very unlikely we end up getting a finish. Holland has needed the judges to determine a winner in 3 straight fights, while Dolidze has gone the distance in 2 of the past 3 bouts.

As such, playing HOLLAND BY DECISION (+175) at plus-money for the method of victory is also a very good wager.

Over/Under (O/U)

As far as the round betting is concerned, Yes (-185): Will the fight go the distance? is a little too costly. It will cost you nearly 2 times your potential return, and that’s too much.

In addition, Over 2.5 Rounds (-225) will set you back more than 2 times your potential return, and that’s too pricey as well.

Stick to the 2-way line, and the method of victory.

PASS.

Roman Dolidze vs. Kevin Holland prediction, pick, start time for UFC 307

Roman Dolidze and Kevin Holland are not afraid to get wild in the octagon. Will this UFC 307 middleweight clash end early?

[autotag]Roman Dolidze[/autotag] and [autotag]Kevin Holland[/autotag] meet Saturday on the main card of UFC 307 at Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Last event: 2-4
UFC main cards, 2024: 81-72-3

Roman Dolidze vs. Kevin Holland UFC 307 preview

Dolidze (13-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) vs. Holland (26-11 MMA, 13-8 UFC) is a matchup of middleweights who got back on track in their most recent bouts. … After losing two in a row, Dolidze defeated Anthony Smith by unanimous decision this past June. … Holland also found himself in the same boat on a two-fight skid until he snapped it with a technical submission of Michał Oleksiejczuk in June.

Roman Dolidze vs. Kevin Holland UFC 307 expert pick, prediction

Filling out the main card is an interesting middleweight attraction between Dolidze and Holland.

With both fighters being wildmen in every sense of the word, this fight stands out the hardest to forecast on the main card.

Dolidze and Holland are deceptively dangerous from a ton of positions, but neither applies consistent processes to get the job done. That said, Dolidze has shown the wrestling and clinch fighting that has stymied Holland before – particularly at this weight class.

Add in the fact that Dolidze has yet to be finished as a pro, and I can’t help but side with the larger fighter to dictate the action in this spot.

The pick is Dolidze by unanimous decision.

Roman Dolidze vs. Kevin Holland UFC 307 preview odds

The oddsmakers and the public are slightly favoring the American fighter, listing Holland -154 and Dolidze +120 via FanDuel.

Roman Dolidze vs. Kevin Holland UFC 307 start time, how to watch

Dolidze and Holland are expected to walk out to the cage at approximately 10:45 p.m. ET (8:45 p.m. locally in Salt Lake City). The fight will stream on ESPN+.

Roman Dolidze: Maybe I’ll score my first octagon submission vs. Kevin Holland at UFC 307

Roman Dolidze sees a path to his first UFC submission vs. Kevin Holland.

SALT LAKE CITY – [autotag]Roman Dolidze[/autotag] sees a path to his first UFC submission vs. [autotag]Kevin Holland[/autotag].

Dolidze (13-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) takes on Holland (26-11 MMA, 13-8 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC 307 (pay-per-view, ESPNews, ESPN+) main card opener at Delta Center in Salt Lake City.

Dolidze’s first three professional wins came by submission, but all his UFC finishes have been by knockout. He thinks that could potentially change against Holland, but it’s not something he’ll go after.

“He’s an (unpredictable) guy, I’m (unpredictable),” Dolidze told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s UFC 307 media day. “But who knows – maybe this time will be my first submission in the UFC. It’s a little bit strange: I’m a grappler and I’ve never used this (in the UFC), but who knows? But you know me – maybe I will just go and fight.”

Dolidze was asked his thoughts on the light heavyweight title fight between champion Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree, which led him to express his frustration with the UFC’s rankings. Dolidze’s most recent fight was a win over ranked light heavyweight Anthony Smith in June, but he now finds himself out of the UFC’s 205-pound rankings.

“I’m happy with the UFC. That’s why I’m not saying anything,” Dolidze said. “But even my last fight, I beat Smith. He was No. 10 ranked, and after I woke up Tuesday, some guy moved to (No.) 10, and after one month they put me to No. 15. I don’t understand what’s going on there. For me, it’s to provide for my family, to provide for my kids, for their future.”

Roman Dolidze vs. Kevin Holland, Joaquin Buckley vs. Stephen Thompson added to UFC 307

The UFC is making a habit of bringing big matchups to the mountains when it touches down in Utah.

The UFC is making a habit of bringing big matchups to the mountains when it touches down in Utah.

That will be the case again in October at UFC 307. The promotion Friday announced a pair of title fights for the top of the bill in Salt Lake City, some top-shelf previously reported matchups, and a pair of fan-friendly new bookings.

[autotag]Roman Dolidze[/autotag] (13-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) will take on [autotag]Kevin Holland[/autotag] (26-11 MMA, 13-8 UFC) at middleweight. And at welterweight, [autotag]Joaquin Buckley[/autotag] (19-6 MMA, 9-4 UFC) meets two-time title challenger [autotag]Stephen Thompson[/autotag] (17-7-1 MMA, 12-7-1 UFC). Just like the UFC 300 and UFC 303 cards light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira headlined earlier this year, UFC 307 is shaping up to be another all-star game of sorts for the promotion.

UFC 307, headlined by Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree and women’s bantamweight champion Raquel Pennington vs. Julianna Peña, takes place Oct. 5 at Delta Center in Salt Lake City (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+).

Dolidze got back in the win column in late June when he outworked Anthony Smith at UFC 303. The Las Vegas-based fighter had been working off back-to-back losses, but now he’ll chase his first winning streak since 2022.

Holland, one of the UFC’s busiest fighters, was supposed to take on Chris Curtis until the matchup was lost to an injury. He’ll get Dolidze, instead, and will be chasing another winning streak of his own. After decision losses to Jack Della Maddalena and Michael Page, Holland rebounded at UFC 302 with a bonus-winning armbar submission of Michal Oleksiejczuk.

Buckley has been on a tear with four straight wins on the heels of back-to-back losses to Nassourdine Imavov and Chris Curtis in 2022. In 2023, he took out Andre Fialho with a head kick and outworked Alex Morono. And already this year, he pounded out Vicente Luque in March and took a decision from Nursulton Ruziboev in May, giving him a shot at a 3-0 year if he runs his streak to five.

“Wonderboy” Thompson, considered one of the best strikers in the UFC, has dropped three of his past four. At UFC 296 in December 2023, he was submitted by Shavkat Rakhmonov. It was the first time he was submitted, and just the second time he was finished.

With the additions, the UFC 307 lineup includes:

  • Champ Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree – for light heavyweight title
  • Champ Raquel Pennington vs. Julianna Peña – for women’s bantamweight title
  • Movsar Evloev vs. Aljamain Sterling
  • Jose Aldo vs. Mario Bautista
  • Kayla Harrison vs. Ketlen Vieira
  • Roman Dolidze vs. Kevin Holland
  • Kevin Buckley vs. Stephen Thompson
  • Carla Esparza vs. Tecia Pennington
  • Iasmin Lucindo vs. Marina Rodriguez
  • Cesar Almeida vs. Ihor Potieria

Roman Dolidze looking for quick turnaround at 185 or 205 after UFC 303 win over Anthony Smith
