4 players the Eagles should let walk in 2020 free agency

Ronald Darby among players the Eagles should let walk in free agency

NFL free agency is less than three weeks away and with the NFL draft approaching as well, it’s a great time to start shaping the Eagles 2020 roster on paper.

With 18 players set for free agency, Howie Roseman can’t keep them all and nor should he want to.

The Eagles have needs at several key positions and with a youth movement scheduled, here are four free agents the Birds should let walk next month.

1. Ronald Darby CB 26 UFA –

Darby returned to the Eagles in 2019 after signing a one year deal and he again finished the season on injured reserve. Darby is likely to move on as the Eagles look to restructure the secondary.

4 free agent safeties the Eagles should consider pursuing

Broncos safety Justin Simmons is one of 4 free agent safeties the Eagles could target in 2020

During his end of the season press conference, Howie Roseman classified certain aspects of this season as “disappointing”, while making it clear that there would be changes and the Birds would get drastically younger.

The Eagles have two quality safeties, but Rodney McLeod is a free agent and Malcolm Jenkins is looking for a new deal. Both players are looking top-notch money and with the Eagles likely to lose one if not both, Howie Roseman and company will have to monitor the safety news this offseason.

With free agency set to begin on March 18, here are four free-agent safety targets for the Birds:

1. Anthony Harris

Harris has benefited greatly from playing alongside Harrison Smith and the undrafted free agent just finished the 2018 season as the third highest-graded safety in the NFL. In 2019, Harris earned the highest grade among safeties.

Harris tied for the league lead with his six interceptions, was Pro Football Focus’s top-graded coverage safety in 2019 and should be a player of interest for the Eagles.

Eagles’ Rodney McLeod would earn $250K contract incentive by winning the NFC East

Rodney McLeod would earn $250K contract incentives with NFC East title

Rodney McLeod will take the field on Sunday playing for more than a playoff appearance and with a win on Sunday, he can help the Eagles win the division and take money out of Jason Witten’s pocket.

According to Adam Schefter via contract details from Over the Cap, McLeod and Witten both have incentives in their contracts that pay out hefty bonuses for winning the NFC East.

For McLeod, he’ll earn $250,000 for being a member of the NFC East champions, while Witten can pocket $375,000 if the Cowboys can get into the postseason.

The Eagles (8-7) would win the NFC East with a victory over the New York Giants, while the Cowboys (7-8) need to beat the Washington Redskins and have Philadelphia lose to win the division.
