Houston Rockets at Memphis Grizzlies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Houston Rockets at Memphis Grizzlies odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Rockets (18-55) battle the Memphis Grizzlies (45-27) Friday. Tip from FedEx Forum is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rockets vs. Grizzlies odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Rockets lost 130-125 at the Grizzlies Wednesday but covered as 12-point underdogs. Houston has dropped 3 straight games, and 6 of its last 9, but is 5-2-1 against the spread (ATS) over its last 8 contests.

Grizzlies G Ja Morant returned from a 9-game absence in the victory, scoring 17 points. Memphis is just 2-4-1 ATS over its last 7 games, although it has won 6 of them outright, and trails the Western Conference-leading Denver Nuggets by 3.5 games.

This will be the last matchup of the season between the two sides. Memphis is 3-0 and 1-2 ATS through the first 3 meetings and the Over has cashed twice.

Rockets at Grizzlies picks and predictions

Prediction

Grizzlies 122, Rockets 108

Moneyline

AVOID.

A -950 NBA favorite never deserves a play, despite that the Grizzlies are the best team in the West at home (31-5) and should come out on top with ease.

Against the spread

BET GRIZZLIES -13.5 (-105).

The Grizzlies and Rockets just played, and the chances that G Jalen Green and F Jabari Smith Jr. combined to go 7-for-15 from deep again and keep the game within reach for Houston is unlikely.

Morant played just 24 minutes in his return and should move to the starting lineup Friday. He was +11 in those minutes so expect a healthy dose of him which should propel a Grizzlies cover.

Memphis is 2-2-1 ATS in its last 5 home games while Houston is 13-22 ATS on the road, one of the worst road covering rates in the NBA. Memphis is 21-14-1 ATS at home. Back the GRIZZLIES -13.5 (-105).

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 233.5 (-108).

Both teams shot over 50% from the field in the last matchup, and that is likely to be repeated. Memphis is 2-2 O/U in its last 4 home games while Houston is 1-5 O/U in its last 6 games overall.

The Rockets typically have problems scoring, going for 114 or fewer points in 6 of their last 7 games. Considering the inconsistency of the Rockets’ offense, back the UNDER 233.5 (-108).

Houston Rockets at Memphis Grizzlies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Houston Rockets at Memphis Grizzlies odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Rockets (18-54) battle the Memphis Grizzlies (44-27) Wednesday. Tip from FedEx Forum is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rockets vs. Grizzlies odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Rockets are 0-2 straight up against Memphis this season, but they are 1-1 against the spread (ATS). The most recent matchup was a 113-99 win for Memphis in Houston. The line closed at 10.5, and the Under 232.5 hit.

Houston lost to the Golden State Warriors 121-108 Monday, failing to cover as an 11.5-point underdog. The Rockets are 4-2-1 ATS and 2-5 O/U in their last 7 games. They are 30-40-2 ATS on the season.

Memphis is 33-36-2 ATS on the season, coming off a 112-108 win at home Monday over the Dallas Mavericks, pushing as a 4-point favorite. The Grizzlies have won 6 of their last 7 yet are just 3-3-1 ATS over that span.

Rockets at Grizzlies picks and predictions

Prediction

Grizzlies 120, Rockets 111

Moneyline

AVOID.

The Rockets are 1-6 straight up in their last 7 road games and are taking on the 2nd-best team in the West who might be getting their MVP-level guard (Morant) back.

It doesn’t make much sense to back them at (+650). The Grizzlies at (-950) has no value either as it is too much risk for the minuscule award.

Against the spread

LEAN ROCKETS -13.5 (-112).

The Rockets are 6-3-1 ATS over their last 10 games, and while Morant is available, he hasn’t been ruled active yet. How much he plays, having not played since March 3, isn’t known even if he does suit up.

Memphis is 17-24-2 ATS with one day off as well, which has by not playing Tuesday. Also, key players like Adams and Brooks will be sidelined. Houston should be a strong public fade as well which should bode well for the Rockets to cover.

For a partial unit, play ROCKETS -13.5 (-115) given their recent covering success.

Over/Under

BET OVER 229.5 (-110).

The Rockets have gone Under in 5 straight games, but they haven’t had a total this low. The Grizzlies also rank 9th in pace, so they may look to push the pace. Houston sits 15th in pace.

Memphis has gone Over in 3 of their last 4 and has either scored or allowed at least 120 in 3 of their last 4 games as well. It does rank 2nd in defensive rating, but the absence of Adams and Brooks may cripple the Griz defensively. Memphis is averaging 116 points per game as well.

Put it all together and take the OVER 229.5 (-110).

Houston Rockets at Memphis Grizzlies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Houston Rockets at Memphis Grizzlies odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Rockets (8-17) travel to FedExForum to take on the Memphis Grizzlies (15-11). Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Rockets vs. Grizzlies odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Rockets have been electric as of late. They were up big in the first half against the Milwaukee Bucks Friday, looking at their eighth straight win in the face after a 1-16 start to the season. Milwaukee made a strong second-half comeback to cover as 8.5-point favorites (the Bucks won by nine points).

That said, Houston is 13-11-1 ATS this season. The Grizzlies, who have played well without superstar G Ja Morant, are 16-10 ATS, the fourth-best cover rate in the league.

Memphis is coming off a strong win over the Los Angeles Lakers. This is the third win of a four-game home stint for the Grizzlies. They’re 1-1 overall so far with a loss to the Mavs prior to that 13-point win over LA.

Rockets at Grizzlies odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Grizzlies 110, Rockets 107

Money line

PASS on the money line with a slight sprinkle on the Rockets (+290).

Houston has been hot (winning seven of the last eight games) and was leading for quite a while on the Bucks last night. The Rockets have oddly turned a corner, and it could be worth a fraction of a unit.

Against the spread

BET on the ROCKETS +7.5 (-105) as they continue to be disrespected. Over their last eight games, the Rockets rank third in true shooting percentage and third in offensive rating.

Led by C Christian Wood, this team is starting to figure it out, and without the inefficient guard play of Porter and Green, they’re able to get more quality looks.

As for the Grizzlies, they’re 7-3 in their last 10 games, and they’ve done it by strong rebounding.

Their offensive rebounding rate is over 33.5% of their last eight. The Rockets rank 13th in total rebounding over that span, so they should be able to limit Memphis big Steven Adams on the glass.

If they can do just that, the Rockets have a good chance to cover and even win.

Over/Under

BET on the UNDER 220.5 (-107) as the Rockets shooting is due to regress sooner or later.

While I still expect them to cover, their recent shooting compared to their season’s shooting is worrisome. Also, the Grizzlies have been so dominant as of late because, of their last eight games, they have the second-best defensive rating.

Only the Warriors and Grizzlies have a rating under 100 over that stretch. They’ve put the clamps on teams defensively, and I expect them to limit the Rockets.

Without Morant, where the Grizzlies scoring will come from isn’t clear and obvious either. Combine it all, and the Under feels good here.

Memphis Grizzlies at Houston Rockets odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Memphis Grizzlies at Houston Rockets NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Memphis Grizzlies (21-22) drop by Toyota Center Monday for an 8 p.m. ET tip-off against the Houston Rockets (13-32). Below, we analyze the Grizzlies-Rockets odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Memphis dropped back-to-back games at the Utah Jazz following a three-game win streak. The Grizzlies are 4-4 straight up (SU) and 5-3 against the spread (ATS) in the last two weeks.

Houston split its last four games SU and ATS with the latest game being a 129-107 beatdown of the Minnesota Timberwolves Saturday. The Rockets lost 20 straight games before their March 22 victory over the Toronto Raptors.

Houston’s last win prior to that 20-game losing skid was against Memphis Feb. 4, but the Rockets were routed 133-84 by the Grizzlies Feb. 28.

Grizzlies at Rockets: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Grizzlies 119, Rockets 115

Money line (ML)

Slight LEAN toward ROCKETS (+275) because Houston’s play should improve as it gets healthier and builds togetherness under rookie head coach Stephen Silas.

The Grizzlies are winning 66.7% of their games as a road favorite this season and their implied win probability is 77.8% based on the money line odds. Also, Memphis is a young team that’ll put up an occasional clunker.

Houston plus the points is a far better bet so I’m only on ROCKETS (+275) for a one-tenth-unit, pending the final injury report.

(The predicted score is an honest projection.)

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

If Wood is given the green light by Houston to play in this game then I like the ROCKETS +8 (-110) because he and newly acquired big Kelly Olynyk can open up driving lanes against the Grizzlies.

According to CleaningTheGlass.com, Wood is in the 98th percentile of bigs in on-off court team effective field-goal percentage (eFG%) and Olynyk is in the 90th percentile of bigs in team on-off court points per 100 possessions while playing for the Miami Heat.

Furthermore, this is a Pros vs. Joes game within the betting market; according to Pregame.com, nearly 70% of the money wagered is on the Rockets to cover but 83% of the bets have been placed on the Grizzlies.

Since the sharp side of the market is typically the money column whereas the tickets column is the average joe, let’s follow the money and BET ROCKETS +8 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Houston’s path to victory on this one is by outscoring Memphis, not shutting them down. The Grizzlies are much bigger and more physical but just 21st in defensive eFG%.

Since we are getting to the party a little late (the total has been steamed up from the 221.5-point opener), I can only LEAN OVER 226.5 (-110) for a quarter-unit.
