Penn State basketball wins final exhibition before start of regular season

Four Penn State basketball players scored in double figures in Friday night’s exhibition at Robert Morris.

Penn State basketball remained undefeated in exhibition games leading up to the start of the 2023-24 college basketball season after taking an exhibition matchup at Robert Morris on Friday night. Penn State topped Robert Morris by a score of 68-58 and led for nearly the entire game from start to finish.

Penn State jumped out to an 11-2 lead toward the start of the game. Robert Morris cut Penn State’s lead to 31-30 late in the first half and made a run at Penn State early in the second half before Penn State responded with a couple of runs of their own.

Check out some of the best photos of Ohio State basketball’s successful first night out vs. Robert Morris. #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team got its 2022-2023 season started on the right foot with a blowout win over Horizon League opponent Robert Morris on Monday night. It was a bit of a slow start, but from about midway through the first half through the rest of the game, the Buckeyes gained separation and pulled away with hot shooting and a lot of sharing of the basketball.

When the buzzer sounded, Ohio State went home with a 91-53 win, and it gave us plenty of things to observe and learn from.

Something else we took from the game was some pretty amazing photos. With OSU donned in its all scarlet uniforms and a lot of fresh faces to get acclimated to, we took some of the best photos from the action on Monday night to share with you. Plus, with the game not on any television channel, and only available to stream, we’re giving the people what they want with some images to look at.

Happy scrolling in what might be your first look at the 2022-2023 Ohio State basketball team.

Three things we think we learned from Ohio State basketball’s first game

After watching the Ohio State basketball team for the first time this season, here are three things we observed. #GoBucks

In case you missed it, we want to remind you that the colors scarlet and gray go on a basketball court as well. While the Ohio State football team is continuing on its journey to try and win a Big Ten title and perhaps make it into the College Football Playoff, Chris Holtmann’s crew took the court for the first time on Monday.

You never know what you’re going to get in game one, especially with a team with so many new faces and unknown parts. However, in this one at least, it was a resounding success with a 91-53 runaway win over Robert Morris.

With it being the first real time we’ve seen this team in action when it counts, there’s plenty to peel back and examine. And since we get paid to do that sort of thing, well — we’re all over it.

Here are three main things we think we learned in watching the Ohio State basketball team in its first game of the 2022-2023 season.

Ohio State basketball wins first game of season over Robert Morris

The Buckeyes got off to a great start on the hardwood with a blowout of Robert Morris. #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team opened up its 2022-2023 campaign on Monday night without too much drama to speak of. In fact, the Buckeyes ran away with the game in the second half to easily take care of Robert Morris 91-53.

There was a sort of feeling out in the beginning as the Colonials were able to match OSU with hot shooting from the outside, but that changed midway through the first 20 minutes when the Buckeyes closed the half on a 29-13 run to head into the locker room up 42-28.

The Buckeyes continued the run in the second half and left little doubt about the outcome. Justice Sueing in his first action since early last season paced Ohio State with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting that included 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Sueing also led OSU with three steals.

But it wasn’t just Sueing who poured in double figures. Zed Key started the game off with one of his two 3-point field goals for the game and went on to put together a very efficient day on 4-of-5 shooting. He finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points and ten rebounds.

Freshman Brice Sensabaugh — as well as Tanner Holden — also reached double figures with 17 and 12 points respectively. All told, nine Buckeyes scored and a lot of it was from beyond the arc. The team knocked down 10-of-21 (47.6%) 3-pointers for the contest.

Also encouraging was the amount of sharing that took place Monday. The team totaled a whopping 18 assists, getting everyone involved. There will be greater challenges ahead, but game one is definitely something all the new faces can build upon.

Ohio State will next be in action against Charleston Southern at home on Thursday.
