2023 Basketball Prospects: Robert Dillingham’s Recruiting Profile

This would be a major get for Auburn.

Auburn may be getting another elite recruit.

[autotag]Robert Dillingham[/autotag] is the No. 1 point guard in the 2023 recruiting class and on Monday he included Auburn in his final four schools. The Tiger will not have to wait long to find out if he will be coming to the Plains, he is set to announce his decision on June 24.

It would come as quite a shock if the Tigers are able to land the North Carolina native. He is expected to commit to the Kentucky Wildcats. However, he has already backed off a commitment once, he was previously committed to N.C. State before reopening his commitment.

Auburn has shown what guards can do in the [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] system and the Tigers may soon be able to advertise Jabari Smith as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft.

Here is a look at Dillingham’s recruiting profile.

Tigers land in top four for 2023 five-star point guard from North Carolina

Auburn was listed in 2023 five-star Robert Dillingham’s top four on Monday.

On Monday, 2023 five-star point guard Robert Dillingham announced his top four schools. Auburn was one of the schools listed. The other schools listed were Louisville, Kentucky, and USC. He is also set to announce his commitment on June 24th at 7 ET.

Dillingham is regarded as a five-star according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. He is listed at 6-foot-2 and 165 pounds. Here is what 247Sports’ director of  scouting Jerry Meyer had to say about Dillingham and his style of play:

Has a thin build but has length at 6-2 with long arms. Has a feel for controlling horizontal space. Possesses a special feel space and time on the court. Combines this awareness with an elite burst of quickness to gain separation. Highly confident sharp shooter from deep. Has a deft hop back jumper going to his right. Pulls up with effectiveness in the midrange going either direction. Loves to shoot a runner going left when can’t get to the rim. Slick ball handler and crafty finisher. Has it on a string and can find teammates while penetrating. Lack of size and strength can be a detriment on the boards and defensively. Is an active and disruptive defender, nonetheless. Has tremendous upside as a dynamic playmaker who just needs to gain strength and mass as he develops.

The North Carolina native was once committed to the in-state North Carolina State Wolfpack before re-opening his recruitment. He has been highly coveted since his decision to decommit. The Tigers have their work cut out for them, as the only school that he has taken an official visit to is Kentucky. At the present time, On3’s RPM is in favor of Kentucky at 80.8%.

Head coach Bruce Pearl would love to add Dillingham to the 2023 class. Although nothing is set in stone, there have been some ramblings that Dillingham will commit and reclassify into the 2022 class, which means he’ll enroll early at the school that he chooses. Auburn fans will have their fingers crossed on Friday night.

Former UNC target dishes on recruitment, upcoming decision

A former UNC basketball recruiting target dishes on the schools involved as decision day looms.

Five-star guard [autotag]Robert Dillingham[/autotag] was once a big target of the UNC basketball program. With Roy Williams still the head coach, the Tar Heels pursued the in-state prospect and were even the favorites to land him.

But after months passed and Hubert Davis took over, UNC backed off and things cooled down.

Dillingham then committed to NC State before backing off that commitment just months later. Now, he’s ready to decide in the coming weeks and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. Before that day, Dillingham caught up with Travis Graf of Rivals.com to dish on the decision as well as which schools are involved:

Dillingham: “Lately I’ve been talking to Memphis, Kentucky, Louisville, and USC recently, and Arkansas, but a little bit of Arkansas. That’s been the most recent like five I’ve been talking to.”

As you can see above, there’s a Blue Blood program as well as a ACC program on his list. Right now, Kentucky appears to be the trending team in his recruitment on the 247Sports crystal ball.

Robert Dillingham leads USA U16 National Team to seventh straight gold medal

Team USA defeated Argentina to win the FIBA Americas on Saturday.

The USA U16 Men’s Basketball team has been a force on the international circuit for years and that continued in the FIBA Americas on Sunday.

Five-star point guard Robert Dillingham scored 31 points to lead a 90-75 win over Argentina. Team USA is now 37-0 all-time in FIBA Americas play since its debut in 2009.

Dillingham’s 31 points were a team record. The Combine Academy (N.C.) star added six rebounds four assists and three steals to his stat line. Dillingham played a major role in Team USA’s come-from-behind win over Argentina, spearheading a 13-1 run before halftime to cut Argentina’s lead to 31-30.

Team USA as a whole turned it up a notch in the third quarter, opening its lead up to 59-50 by the beginning of the fourth quarter. Team USA then outscored Argentina 31-25 in the fourth, securing its gold medal in its tightest game of the FIBA Americas.

Five-star Duncanville (Texas) power forward Ronald Holland also played a major role alongside Dillingham in Team USA’s win, finishing with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Holland was one of Team USA’s best and most consistent players throughout the tournament, averaging 19 points and 10.2 rebounds in six games.

With the win, Team USA secured its spot in the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup. Argentina, Canada and the Dominican Republic will also participate in the U17 World Cup.

Florida basketball in the mix for 2023 five-star recruit

The Florida Gators basketball program appears to be in the mix for five-star point guard Robert Dillingham as his recruitment picks up.

While the focus for Mike White and his Florida Gators basketball program remains on the SEC and NCAA Tournaments, recruiting hasn’t taken a back seat.

The Gators are in the mix for several recruits in the 2021 and 2022 classes but lately, White has expanded the reach to the 2023 class. Florida has offered seven total prospects in the 2023 recruiting class, hoping to turn in a good one and build from there. But one player that Florida has yet to offer but has kept in contact with is five-star guard Robert Dillingham.

The North Carolina native is among the top recruits in the 2023 class and is starting to see his recruitment pick up a bit. Just a few days ago, Dillingham caught up with Jamie Shaw of Rivals to break down the latest in his recruitment. In the piece, Dillingham tells Shaw of the schools he’s hearing from:

This early notoriety and all of his success has also caught the attention of college programs across the country.

“I just got UNC. I also got Kansas, Clemson, Florida, Florida State and a bunch of other high majors.” Dillingham said. “I have been talking to a lot of schools recently. Carolina and Kansas are sticking out for really being on me. It’s a lot of schools, really.”

While Florida being listed is good news, the bad news is that he mentioned UNC and Kansas as the two teams standing out the most. If Florida wants to win this recruiting battle, it looks like they are going to have to take down some Blue Bloods to do so.

Dillingham is ranked as a five-star recruit and the No. 11 overall player by 247 Sports. He has a total of 8 offers but has yet to receive one from Florida.
