Does 49ers WR signing impact Brandon Aiyuk contract talks?

The veteran pass catcher played eight games with the Miami Dolphins last season.

On Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers made an addition to their receiving core. The 49ers signed veteran pass catcher Robbie Chosen, formerly known as Robbie Anderson.

Chosen has played eight seasons in the NFL, most recently with Mike McDaniel and the Miami Dolphins. Chosen played nine games with the Dolphins last season, Chosen notched four receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown. Prior to Chosen joining the Dolphins, the Temple product played with the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals.

Although there is currently constant chatter and speculation surrounding Brandon Aiyuk’s contract talks with the 49ers or a potential trade, the addition of another speedy wide receiver shouldn’t play a role in Aiyuk’s situation in Santa Clara.

While Chosen adds a serious speed threat to whatever field he steps on, it would be a surprise if he’s leaned on as a potential contingency plan if Aiyuk exits the Bay Area in a trade.

With proven veterans like Deebo Samuel and Jauan Jennings filling San Francisco’s receiving core and young players like Ricky Pearsall dealing with an injury and Jacob Cowing coming off an injury, Chosen will likely have a chance to fill reps and make a case for a roster spot in practice and the preseason.

However once Pearsall and Cowing return to form, they will likely eat up reps in Aiyuk’s absence along with other young pass catchers Ronnie Bell and Danny Gray.

Despite having some proven experience with the Jets and Panthers and some familiarity with scheme after playing with McDaniel in Miami, Chosen’s arrival in the Bay Area shouldn’t have much impact on Aiyuk’s situation with the 49ers.

Robbie ‘Chosen’ Anderson will tryout for Seahawks at minicamp

The Seahawks are considering adding another name to their 11-deep wide receiver corps to make it an even 12.

The Seahawks are considering adding another name to their 11-deep wide receiver corps to make it an even 12.

According to a report by Tom Pelissero at NFL Network, former Jets, Panthers and Dolphins wide receiver Robbie “Chosen” Anderson will try out for Seattle this week at mandatory minicamp.

Anderson (6-foot-3, 185 pounds) played his college ball at Temple along with quarterback P.J. Walker, who the team is reportedly signing but has not made official as of yet. After going undrafted, Anderson got his first gig in the NFL with the Jets in 2016. He played there the next four years, totaling over 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns.

In 2020 he signed a lucrative deal with Carolina, where he stayed for three seasons, putting up another 1,821 yards and nine more touchdowns. Since then Chosen hasn’t seen much playing time, putting in about half a season each with the Cardinals and the Dolphins, totaling a little over 200 yards and one score.

It’s tough to say where Anderson might fit in on Seattle’s depth chart right now, but his experience probably gives him a leg up over undrafted rookies like Dee Williams and Hayden Hatten.

Former Cardinals WR Chosen Anderson lands with Dolphins

H only had seven catches in 10 games after he was acquired via trade.

The Arizona Cardinals moved on from wide receiver Chosen Anderson (formerly Robbie Anderson) this offseason, releasing him before his roster bonus was due.

Anderson has landed with a new team.

According to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, Anderson has agreed to a deal with the Miami Dolphins.

The Cardinals acquired Anderson from the Carolina Panthers before the trade deadline for a 2024 sixth-round pick and 2025 seventh-round pick.

He was a disappointment. He managed to be on the field for only 209 offensive snaps in 10 games. He had only seven receptions for 76 yards.

Dolphins to sign former Cardinals WR Chosen Anderson

Fans should be familiar with him due to his time with the Jets.

The Miami Dolphins are building their roster for the 2023 campaign, as they prepare for the NFL draft in just under two weeks.

However, just because the draft is close doesn’t mean they can’t still sign free agents. In fact, Miami went out and did exactly that on Saturday night, as they agreed to terms with wide receiver Chosen Anderson, according to the Miami Herald’s Daniel Oyefusi.

Anderson, who went by Robbie prior to this year, was originally signed by the New York Jets back in 2016 as an undrafted free agent. After the completion of his rookie deal, he signed with the Carolina Panthers, even getting an extension after his first season with the team. Before he reached the end of that contract, he was traded to the Arizona Cardinals midway through the 2022 season.

In his seven years in the NFL, Anderson has recorded 375 receptions for 4,956 yards and 29 touchdowns. His best season came in 2020 with the Panthers when he brought in 95 passes for 1,096 yards and three scores.

It’s unclear what Miami’s plans are at wide receiver at the moment, considering they have a lot of talent. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are guaranteed the top two spots, but beyond that, anything could happen with Cedrick Wilson Jr., Braxton Berrios, River Cracraft, Erik Ezukanma and Braylon Sanders.

Cardinals officially release WR Chosen Anderson, save $12M in cap space

The move was expected and previously reported. Anderson managed only seven catches in 10 games after being acquired via trade.

The Arizona Cardinals made official what was reported would happen and as more or everyone expected to happen. They announced the release of wide receiver Chosen (Robbie) Anderson.

The move will save the Cardinals  $12 million in salary cap space for 2023. He was due $8.8 million in salary, $200,000 in workout bonuses and a roster bonus of $3 million.

The Cardinals acquired Anderson in a trade with the Carolina Panthers for a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 seventh-rounder.

In 10 games with Arizona, he did not do well. He had only seven catches for 76 yards. He logged only 209 offensive snaps.

Cardinals expected to release WR Robbie Anderson

In a move that surprises nobody, Ian Rapoport reports the Cardinals will release WR Robbie Anderson.

In what is a surprise to nobody, the Arizona Cardinals are expected to release wide receiver Robbie Anderson, reports NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

The Cardinals acquired Anderson in a midseason trade with the Carolina Panthers, agreeing to send a sixth-round selection in 2024 and a seventh-rounder in 2025 for Anderson.

He did not work out in the second half of the season, catching only seven passes for 76 yards in 10 games.

Anderson is due a $3 million roster bonus after the start of the new league year, $200,000 in workout bonuses and $8.8 million in salary.

Cutting him before the bonus is due will save the Cardinals $12 million against the salary cap. There will be no dead money incurred from his contract.

Cardinals WR Robbie Anderson apparently changed name to ‘Chosen’

Anderson has gone from Robby to Robbie to Chosen in the last year.

The Arizona Cardinals acquired wide receiver Robbie Anderson for a pair of future draft picks midseason. He didn’t do much and is not expected to remain with the team in 2023.

However, right when you wouldn’t expect his name to come up in any news other than as a potential salary cap casualty, he apparently has changed his name.

He apparently has legally changed his first name to Chosen.

This would actually give him three different first names in the last year. He changed his first name from Robby to Robbie last spring. Now, he goes from Robbie to Chosen.

He seems to be following in the footsteps of former NFL star receiver Chad Johnson, who changed his last name to Ochocinco (his number was 85).

Anderson and his name will likely only become a footnote in Cardinals history.

Due to make $12 million in 2023, he is expected to be released before a roster bonus is due.

The Cardinals acquired him for Day 3 draft picks in 2024 and 2025 and he did little after he was acquired.

He had a career-low 20 receptions in 2022 for 282 yards and a touchdown. In 10 games with the Cardinals, he only had seven catches for 76 yards.

Former Panthers WR Robbie Anderson changes first name to Chosen

Former Panthers WR Robbie Anderson has seemingly changed his name once again.

Some folks still may be unsure about how to refer to former Carolina Panthers wideout Robbie (or is it Robby?) Anderson. But he might’ve just made our jobs a lot easier.

If you take a look at Anderson’s instagram page, he lists his name as “Anderson R, Chosen.” Additionally, he has posted a screenshot of a text message that seemingly implies that a name change has been legally approved.

The veteran pass catcher caught some attention when he made a slight modification to his name last spring, going from Robby to Robbie. So, yes, he’s had three names in less than a year.

He’s also only had 17 more receptions than he did names in that time period. A tumultuous 2022 campaign for Anderson, one that included an in-season trade to the Arizona Cardinals, saw the 26-year-old reel in just 20 balls for 282 yards and one touchdown—all career-lows.

Funnily enough, “Chosen” is the given name of Cam Newton’s firstborn son. We know Robbie—er, Chosen—is a big Cam fan, but we doubt there’s any connection here.

WATCH: Panthers’ top 13 plays at the Week 13 bye

If you’re jonesing for some Carolina Panthers action during their bye week, we got you covered with their 13 best plays of the 2022 season (thus far).

We won’t be getting any action from the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. So, let’s look back at the very best that’s already gone down this year.

Here, at the Week 13 bye, are the top 13 plays of the Panthers’ 2022 season thus far.

Kyler Murray excited to see WR Robbie Anderson in offense

Anderson won’t have a large role on Sunday against the Vikings but hopefully he can make an impact.

The Arizona Cardinals acquired receiver Robbie Anderson in the hopes that it could bolster some of the production in the passing game. Marquise Brown is out for a few weeks and A.J. Green’s production has been almost nothing.

Anderson brings length at 6-3 and high-end speed.

He is still being integrated into the offense, but quarterback Kyler Murray can’t wait to see what Anderson adds.

“I’m excited for him,” he told reporters Wednesday after practice. “This is his second week. I can tell him he’s more comfortable talking, more and more vocal. Obviously, he’s got the ability, but we’ve got to build a rapport together, and we’ll do that with time. But yes, I’m excited to see him on the field more.”

He played 12 offensive snaps in the Cardinals’ win over the New Orleans Saints last Thursday and was targeted once without a reception.

Kliff Kingsbury doesn’t anticipate much more in terms of role this week because he is only in his second week. But he wants Anderson to be able to perform well in that limited role.

“I wouldn’t say much bigger,” Kingsbury said when asked about an increased role for Anderson. “We’re going to try and make sure whatever we have him doing, he feels confident and can execute at a high level, so we’ll see how the week goes.”

Right now, he would be the fourth receiver on the depth chart behind DeAndre Hopkins, Rondale Moore and Greg Dortch.
