The Alabama Crimson Tide picked up a massive 7-6 victory against the Tennessee Volunteers on Sunday afternoon to earn a series victory over the No. 5 ranked team in the country. The Volunteers handed Alabama their first home loss of the season on Friday night, and the Tide took that personally as they handed the Vols two of their three total losses on the season the next two games.
Sunday was a back-and-forth contest all the way through, but ultimately Alabama used a three-run eighth inning to take a 7-5 lead into the top of the ninth. However, things got dicey as the Vols cut the lead to 7-6 and a bases-loaded situation, but pitcher [autotag]Aidan Moza[/autotag] saved the day as he struck out a swinging Robin Villeneuve in emphatic fashion to conclude the series. It becomes head coach [autotag]Rob Vaughn’s[/autotag]Â first series win against an SEC opponent since taking over the Tide, and it will definitely be one to remember.
Things looked a bit suspect for the Tide after losing on the road to Southern Miss on Tuesday 7-9 followed by the Friday night loss, so it’s great to see them responding to some adversity. The SEC is a weekly gauntlet so it’s good to be tested, especially with a trip to Athens, GA next weekend. The Tide will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Montgomery to face Alabama State.
