Alabama baseball beats No. 5 Tennessee 7-6 on Sunday to win weekend series

Rob Vaughn picks up first SEC series win as head coach of the Alabama baseball team against No. 5 Tennessee

The Alabama Crimson Tide picked up a massive 7-6 victory against the Tennessee Volunteers on Sunday afternoon to earn a series victory over the No. 5 ranked team in the country. The Volunteers handed Alabama their first home loss of the season on Friday night, and the Tide took that personally as they handed the Vols two of their three total losses on the season the next two games.

Sunday was a back-and-forth contest all the way through, but ultimately Alabama used a three-run eighth inning to take a 7-5 lead into the top of the ninth. However, things got dicey as the Vols cut the lead to 7-6 and a bases-loaded situation, but pitcher [autotag]Aidan Moza[/autotag] saved the day as he struck out a swinging Robin Villeneuve in emphatic fashion to conclude the series. It becomes head coach [autotag]Rob Vaughn’s[/autotag] first series win against an SEC opponent since taking over the Tide, and it will definitely be one to remember.

Things looked a bit suspect for the Tide after losing on the road to Southern Miss on Tuesday 7-9 followed by the Friday night loss, so it’s great to see them responding to some adversity. The SEC is a weekly gauntlet so it’s good to be tested, especially with a trip to Athens, GA next weekend. The Tide will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Montgomery to face Alabama State.

Alabama baseball falls in Game 1 of super regionals to Wake Forest

The No. 16 overall seed Alabama Crimson Tide fell in Game 1 of the Super Regionals to No. 1 overall seed Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons defeated the Crimson Tide 5-4.

The Alabama baseball team opened its super regional on Saturday with a loss against Wake Forest. The Tide fell to the Demon Deacons, 5-4.

The scoring started when leadoff hitter and center fielder Tommy Hawke delivered a solo shot to right-center field in the bottom of the first. In the home half of the second inning, the Demon Deacons produced two more runs.

After Wake Forest pitcher Rhett Lowder cruised through two innings, the Alabama bats woke up. The nine-hole hitter, Caden Rose hit a solo shot to left field in the top of the third inning to cut the Demon Deacons lead to 3-1.

In the fourth inning, designated hitter Dominic Tamez came through with a two-out walk. The next batter, Colby Shelton hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 3.

Alabama starting pitcher Luke Holman settled in after the second until two outs in the fifth. With two strikes in the count, Holman induced a check-swing on a pitch called a ball. On appeal, the third base umpire ruled the batter had not swung. One pitch later, designated hitter Danny Corona hit a solo shot to right field to give the Demon Deacons a one-run lead.

Shortly thereafter, Alabama hitting coach Matt Reida was ejection. Between innings, Alabama head coach Jason Jackson walked onto the field to argue his case for why the call on the field was incorrect.

Needless to say, that run came back to bite the Crimson Tide.

Wake Forest scored again in the sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead.

In the eighth inning, Rose delivered with his second home run of the game, but it was not enough. Holman fell to 7-4 while Lowder improved to 15-0.

A start time for Sunday’s Game 2 has not been determined. We will be sure to keep you updated!
