Sean McVay expects Rob Havenstein’s return to be ‘sooner than later’

Sean McVay shared an update on Rob Havenstein’s status, expecting him to return sooner rather than later

Sunday night was full of bad news for the Los Angeles Rams. Puka Nacua injured his knee and missed half the game, Joe Noteboom had to exit with an ankle injury and Steve Avila missed the second half with a knee injury of his own.

Sean McVay did share a little bit of good news after the team’s 26-20 loss in overtime, though. He told reporters that Rob Havenstein, who missed the game with an ankle issue, could be back in the near future.

He was questionable to play in the first place so it’s not as if he was ruled out on Friday, but it’s good to hear his return is approaching.

“We’ll see what the magnitude of those guys’ injuries are,” McVay said of Noteboom and Avila. “Obviously, we’ll get Alaric back in a couple of weeks. I think Rob’s return is sooner than later.”

Warren McClendon Jr. held his own at right tackle but A.J. Arcuri was overmatched at left tackle. At least if Havenstein returns, the Rams can try McClendon at left tackle until Jackson returns from his suspension in Week 3.

Rams inactives: Rob Havenstein, Brennan Jackson out vs. Lions

The Rams will officially be without both of their starting tackles with Rob Havenstein inactive

The Los Angeles Rams will officially open the season without their two starting offensive tackles. Rob Havenstein is inactive and will not play on Sunday night against the Detroit Lions.

Havenstein has been dealing with an ankle injury since training camp and is not yet ready to return. Havenstein was the only player with an injury designation coming into this game, so the team’s other inactives are all healthy scratches.

Cody Schrader, Brennan Jackson, Elias Neal and Desjuan Johnson are all inactive, as well, and will not play in the opener against the Lions. Rookie linebacker Omar Speights is active, as Les Snead said he would be, so he will play tonight in Detroit.

There are no real surprises on the Lions’ side, with Ifeatu Melifonwu being the most notable player who is inactive. Defensive tackle D.J. Reader is also out for this game.

Report: Rams RT Rob Havenstein not expected to play vs. Lions

Rob Havenstein is not expected to play against the Lions in the Rams’ season opener tonight

The Los Angeles Rams are expected to be without both of their starting offensive tackles in tonight’s season opener against the Detroit Lions. With Alaric Jackson already suspended for two games, Rob Havenstein is also likely to sit out Week 1 with an ankle injury.

Havenstein is listed as questionable but Jay Glazer said on the FOX Sports pregame show Sunday that he’s expected to be out against the Lions. If Havenstein is indeed out, the Rams will start Warren McClendon Jr. at right tackle, with Joe Noteboom at left tackle.

It’s certainly not the way Los Angeles wanted to start the season, especially against a team as talented as the Lions are.

Rams injury report: Rob Havenstein questionable, Cobie Durant will play vs. Lions

Cobie Durant is good to go for Sunday but Rob Havenstein’s status is still TBD

Injuries have been a major story for the Los Angeles Rams this summer and it’s continued into the regular season. There have been question marks about a few players entering Week 1 against the Detroit Lions, with Cobie Durant and Rob Havenstein being the biggest.

On Friday, Sean McVay provided updates on both players, as well as Puka Nacua and Jonah Jackson. He said Nacua, Jackson and Durant will all be full participants in the final practice of the week, while Havenstein will be limited for the third day in a row.

Nacua, Jackson and Durant are all expected to play on Sunday against the Lions, which is great news for the Rams. There was never much concern with Nacua or Jackson but Durant’s status was a bit up in the air, which was particularly worrisome with Darious Williams landing on IR.

Havenstein still isn’t certain to play on Sunday but the Rams haven’t yet ruled him out. If he does miss the game, Warren McClendon Jr. will start at right tackle.

Havenstein is officially listed as questionable, but everyone else is good to go for Sunday.

For the Lions, they have three players on the injury report heading into Sunday. Backup safety Loren Strickland has been ruled out with a thumb injury, while fellow safety Ifeatu Melifonwu is doubtful to play with an ankle injury.

Defensive tackle D.J. Reader is questionable due to a quad injury.

Rams injury report: Havenstein, Durant still limited Thursday

Rob Havenstein and Cobie Durant remained limited on Thursday, putting their status for Week 1 in question

It’s only Week 1 but the Los Angeles Rams are already dealing with a handful of injury concerns. Though Puka Nacua is good to go for Week 1, he was still one of five players listed on the first injury report of the year – a list that included Darious Williams, who has since been placed on injured reserve.

Rob Havenstein and Cobie Durant remain the two biggest situations to monitor approaching Sunday night’s game against the Lions as both were limited Wednesday. On Thursday, both players remained limited, bringing into question their statuses for Sunday’s game against the Lions.

On the Lions’s side, their injury report remained unchanged.

Los Angeles Rams name former Wisconsin lineman a team captain for 2024 campaign

Los Angeles Rams name former Wisconsin icon team captain for 2024 campaign

The Los Angeles Rams named former Wisconsin Badgers offensive tackle Rob Havenstein as one of its team captains for the 2024 season on Aug. 28.

The Mount Airy, Maryland native is one of the Rams five captains this year, alongside defensive back Quentin Lake, wide receiver Cooper Kupp, quarterback Matthew Stafford and nose tackle Kobie Turner.

This is the third straight season that Havenstein will wear the capital “C” on his jersey. He also joins outside linebacker T.J. Watt (Steelers), quarterback Russell Wilson (Steelers), running back Jonathan Taylor (Colts), linebacker T.J. Edwards (Bears) and fullback Alec Ingold (Dolphins) as current Wisconsin alumnus in the NFL to earn the recognition ahead of the 2024 season.

Havenstein was a First-Team All-America selection with the Badgers in 2014. He played for the program from 2010-14, matching a school record with 54 career games. He also helped the Badgers set a school record for total offense at 480.8 yards per game during his fourth season in Madison in 2013.

This will mark Havenstein’s tenth NFL campaign with the Rams after being selected No. 57 overall in the 2015 NFL draft. Following the franchise’s transition to the California, he reeled in a championship ring under Sean McVay’s tutelage during the team’s 2021 Super Bowl winning season.

Outside of playing only nine games in 2019, Havenstein has been a dependable member of the Rams offensive line. He has not appeared in fewer than 14 games since his rookie year in 2015.

Sean McVay provides update on Rob Havenstein’s health

Sean McVay shared news relating to the status of Rob Havenstein, who has missed time due to an ankle injury.

Right tackle Rob Havenstein has been dealing with an ankle injury that has plagued him throughout training camp.

However, Havenstein participated in individual drills on Monday, igniting hope that he could be available for the Rams’ matchup against Detroit on Sunday night football.

When asked about the longtime Ram, Sean McVay had good news to share.

“We’re having contingency plans for either or,” McVay said of Havenstein’s chances of playing. “I think Wednesday I’ll have a much better idea. We’re going to use every day and that’s the truth, especially as it relates to him.”

With less than a week before Sunday night, Havenstein has a short window to get ready to play. However, things are as optimistic as they can be for Havenstein and the team.

Rams announce 5 team captains for 2024 season

The Rams will have five team captains this season, including Kobie Turner and Quentin Lake

The Los Angeles Rams’ roster has changed dramatically in the last two years but most of the same leaders remain. Heading into the 2024 campaign, Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Rob Havenstein will all be captains once again, representing the offense.

On defense, there are two new faces who have been voted captains: Kobie Turner and Quentin Lake. That’s some high praise for the two young defenders, who are each entering just their second seasons as starters – and for Turner, his second season as a pro.

Jordan Fuller held a similar honor when he was just a second-year player for the Rams and was voted a captain, so this isn’t a team that’s afraid to appoint young guys as leaders if they’ve earned that title.

Stafford, Kupp, Havenstein, Turner and Lake are the only five captains this year, going without a special teams captain in 2024; Ben Skowronek held that honor last season.

Rob Havenstein (ankle) could miss Week 1 vs. Lions but won’t go on IR

There’s a chance the Rams will be without both of their starting tackles in Week 1 against the Lions

Sean McVay shared a handful of injury updates after practice on Monday, including some news on starting right tackle Rob Havenstein.

Havenstein, who’s been sidelined since injuring his ankle on Aug. 1, is still working his way back but is not yet ready to return. In fact, McVay said it’s possible Havenstein won’t be available in Week 1 when the Rams face the Lions on the road.

If Havenstein misses that game, it would leave the Rams without their two starting tackles; Alaric Jackson is suspended for two games due to a personal conduct policy violation.

The good news is that Havenstein won’t need to go on injured reserve, which requires a player to miss at least four games. So at the very least, he should be back by Week 4.

Havenstein is the longest-tenured player on the Rams’ roster and a key piece of the offensive line. He hasn’t been ruled out yet but with less than two weeks until the season opener, he’s running out of time.

Elsewhere on the offensive line, Jonah Jackson is expected to be available for Week 1 after returning to practice recently. The same goes for Darious Williams at cornerback and Puka Nacua at wide receiver.

So other than Havenstein, it sounds like everyone is on track to play in Detroit.

Rob Havenstein exits with foot injury, is Rams’s 4th lineman to get hurt in camp

Rob Havenstein injured his foot in Thursday’s practice, making him the 4th offensive lineman to get hurt in training camp

The way things are trending, the Los Angeles Rams should put Steve Avila in bubble wrap until Week 1. On Thursday afternoon, right tackle Rob Havenstein injured his foot and was forced to leave practice early.

Sean McVay didn’t know the severity of the injury during his post-practice press conference, so it’s to be determined how long it might keep the Rams’ right tackle on the sideline.

Havenstein is now the Rams’ fourth offensive lineman to get hurt at some point in training camp. Kevin Dotson has returned from his toe injury, but Alaric Jackson is out with an ankle issue and Jonah Jackson is week-to-week with a bruised scapula.

McVay did share some good news on Alaric Jackson, saying he should be back soon and may even return in time for Sunday’s joint practice with the Chargers.
