The UFC is back in Miami for the first time in a long time, and a middleweight title rematch tops the card.

UFC 287 takes place Saturday at Kaseya Center in Miami. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

[lawrence-related id=2630446,2630463,2627375]

In the main event, middleweight champion [autotag]Alex Pereira[/autotag] (7-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) puts his title on the line for the first time against former champ [autotag]Israel Adesanya[/autotag] (23-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC), whom he beat to win the belt this past November. Pereira also holds two kickboxing wins over Adesanya.

Despite that, Pereira is the underdog at the betting window with Adesanya around a -150 favorite. The vast majority of our 11 editors, writers, radio hosts and videographers are picking Adesanaya to get the belt back at a rate of 9-2.

In the co-feature, [autotag]Gilbert Burns[/autotag] (21-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC) takes on [autotag]Jorge Masvidal[/autotag] (35-16 MMA, 12-9 UFC) at welterweight. Both fighters hope a win will make them a candidate to leapfrog Colby Covington as the next challenger for champ Leon Edwards. Burns is the biggest favorite on entire card, by far, at 5-1. Only two of our pickers have Masvidal in an upset.

Also on the main card, [autotag]Adrian Yanez[/autotag] (16-3 MMA, 5-0 UFC) is a near 2-1 favorite against [autotag]Rob Font[/autotag] (19-6 MMA, 9-5 UFC) at bantamweight, and he’s a near unanimous pick from our staff members at 10-1.

[autotag]Kevin Holland[/autotag] (23-9 MMA, 10-6 UFC) meets [autotag]Santiago Ponzinibbio[/autotag] (29-6 MMA, 11-5 UFC) in a potential middleweight slugfest. Holland is around a -250 betting favorite, and he has a big 8-3 picks lead.

And to open the main card, [autotag]Christian Rodriguez[/autotag] (8-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) takes on [autotag]Raul Rosas Jr.[/autotag] (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at a 137-pound catchweight (Rodriguez missed the bantamweight limit on the scale). Rosas is more than a 2-1 favorite, and he’s the lone unanimous pick on the main card.

In the MMA Junkie consensus picks, Pereira (61 percent), Burns (80 percent), Yanez (67 percent), Holland (70 percent) and Rosas (84 percent) are the choices.

Rob Font hopes Adrian Yanez doesn’t sleep on him at UFC 287: ‘This is a guaranteed Fight of the Night’

“I just hope he doesn’t sleep on me. It’s going to be a banger. This is a guaranteed Fight of the Night.”

[autotag]Rob Font[/autotag] warns [autotag]Adrian Yanez[/autotag] not to underestimate him at UFC 287.

In a battle between two of the most technical boxers at 135 pounds, Font and Yanez will throw down in Saturday’s main card featured bout at Miami-Dade Arena in Miami. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.

Font (19-6 MMA, 9-5 UFC) has lost back-to-back bouts, and Yanez (16-3 MMA, 5-0 UFC) is on the rise. But after taking a year off, the 35-year-old Massachusetts native is ready to put a halt to Yanez’s hype.

“This is a big fight for me,” Font said on Episode 1 of UFC Embedded. “I took a year off. I needed it. I needed that year off to kind of recoup. Adrian Yanez, this dude is a killer. He’s got a lot of momentum on his side. He’s on a nine-fight win streak. I just hope he doesn’t sleep on me. It’s going to be a banger. This is a guaranteed Fight of the Night, for sure.”

Font is higher than Yanez in the UFC’s bantamweight rankings, and Font’s head coach, Tyson Chartier, finds himself in familiar territory after he helped Calvin Kattar snap Giga Chikadze’s winning streak in January 2022.

“We’ve got a young, hungry prospect coming up. He’s 5-0 in the UFC, really good boxing,” Chartier said. “Obviously, he’s got good jiu-jitsu and wrestling, too. He hasn’t always had to use it. This is what happens. In the UFC, you’re the hungry lion coming up and you try to knock off the king, and then you get a number next to your name, and then those new hungry lions come up and they try to steal your crown.

“So right now, we’re in that position where we have to defend our number. I think I see a revitalization of his attitude. I think now he’s coming into this fight with that different, fresh perspective of like, ‘I don’t have to do this, I get to do this.’ I know there’s this extra motivation going into it and extra excitement for him and the whole team.”

UFC 287’s Adrian Yanez: Giving Rob Font his first KO loss ‘skyrockets me into another stratosphere’

Adrian Yanez thinks his career with launch to the next level if he can be the first to finish UFC 287 opponent Rob Font with strikes in Saturday’s featured bout.

MIAMI – [autotag]Adrian Yanez[/autotag] sees a finish of [autotag]Rob Font[/autotag] at UFC 287 taking his career to the next level.

Unbeaten in the octagon, Yanez (16-3 MMA, 5-0 UFC) faces a big step up in competition when he takes on Font (19-6 MMA, 9-5 UFC) on Saturday’s featured main card bout at Kaseya Arena. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.

Font has lost his past two bouts, but Yanez knows not to underestimate him. He loves the forward-pressure style his opponent brings to the octagon, and will look to become the first to take Font out by strikes as he goes in with the “mindset of Marvin Hagler.”

“This guy has the never-die attitude and he’s going to keep getting up,” Font told reporters, including MMA Junkie, during Wednesday’s UFC 287 media day. “He’s been hurt multiple times, but he’s never been finished by TKO or knockout. He keeps coming back and he wants to get the win. He’s fighting tooth and nail. So it excites me because I know as soon as he gets dropped, he comes back and looks better the next round. So, I have to be ready at every second because this guy is gonna be non-stop coming forward.

“He’s ranked No. 6 in the world (in the UFC rankings). For me, if I go out there and starch him, be the first guy to put him out, I get his number. So that just skyrockets me into another stratosphere.”

[lawrence-related id=2608839,2630463,2630552]

Yanez had long been angling for a fight with Sean O’Malley, but the pair have yet to be matched up. Now that O’Malley is the No. 1 contender, Yanez thinks an emphatic finish of Font would build up their fight that much more.

Although Yanez wants to fight O’Malley as soon as possible, he doesn’t blame him for opting to sit out and wait for the winner between champion Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo, who meet for 135-pound gold at UFC 288 on May 6.

“As a fighter, I look at it as no, stay busy,” Yanez said. “Don’t sit down on the couch too much. But honestly, he’s earned it. He’s deserved it. He worked his way up there, he beat Petr Yan. Whether you think he won or not, he beat him. So yeah, he rightly deserves to sit out if he wants to.”
