INDIANAPOLIS — The 2024 Rising Stars challenge will be held on Friday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. CT in Gainbridge Fieldhouse on TNT.

The semifinals will be played to a target score of 40 points. The final will be played to a target score of 25 points. The semifinal matchups are Rose vs. Catchings and Gasol vs. Schrempf.

Let’s look at all 28 participants and who they’ll play for.

The NBA announced its 2024 Rising Stars participants, and the Oklahoma City Thunder will have three representatives.

In 44 games, Williams is averaging 18.7 points on 53.9% shooting, 4.5 assists and four rebounds. He’s shooting 45% from 3 on 3.2 attempts.

The second-year wing has blossomed into OKC’s second-best scorer. The 22-year-old participated in the Rising Stars challenge last season during his rookie season.

In 47 games, Holmgren is averaging 16.7 points on 53.3% shooting, 7.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.6 blocks. He’s shooting 37.4% from 3 on 4.1 attempts.

Josh Giddey and Jalen Williams named to the 2023 Rising Stars roster

The Thunder will be busy for All-Star weekend.

It looks like the Oklahoma City Thunder will have at least three participants for the All-Star weekend.

With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander likely being named an All-Star reserve, the Thunder also will be represented by Josh Giddey and Jalen Williams in the Rising Stars game.

The Rising Stars roster was announced on Tuesday; both Giddey and Williams were listed. Neither should be a surprise. Both have been among the better players in their respective draft classes.

In 45 games, Giddey is averaging 16.1 points, eight rebounds and 5.7 assists. In 46 games, Williams is averaging 12.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

This is Giddey’s second consecutive Rising Stars bid and Williams’ first. They are the 12th and 13th players in Thunder history to gain a Rising Stars spot.

The Rising Stars competition will be played Friday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. CT.

Warriors rookie Jonathan Kuminga scores two points in NBA Rising Stars Game

In an appearance in the NBA’s Rising Stars Game, Warriors rookie Jonathan Kuminga tallied two points in Team Payton’s loss to Team Barry.

After initially not being included in the field of rookies, sophomores and G League players at the Rising Stars Game at NBA All-Star weekend in Cleveland, Warriors rookie Jonathan Kuminga got the call for the game when Indiana Pacers rookie Chris Duarte was ruled out due to injury.

Kuminga joined Charlotte’s LaMelo Ball, Toronto’s Scottie Barnes, Chicago’s Ayo Dosunmu, Minnesota’s Jaden McDaniels, Denver’s Bones Hyland and G League Ignite representative Scoot Henderso on NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton’s team on Friday in Cleveland.

In the new tournament format edition of the game, Team Payton drew a matchup with 2021 No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham and Team Rick Barry in the first round. The first team to get to 50 points advanced to the final round of the Rising Stars game.

In his appearance in the Rising Stars game, Kuminga was quiet, scoring only two points on 1-of-4 shooting from the field. The No. 7 overall pick from the 2021 NBA draft missed both of his attempts from beyond the arc. Along with his two points, Kuminga got into the boxscore with an assist.

Kuminga and Team Payton failed to advance to the next round of the mini-tournament with a loss to Team Barry, 50-48. Houston’s Jae’Sean Tate sealed Team Barry’s victory with a late bucket to hit the 50 point mark.

With Kuminga’s stint at the Rising Stars Game over, Juan Toscano-Anderson, Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins will represent the Golden State Warriors for the rest of All-Star weekend.

NBA Twitter reacts to Josh Giddey’s Rising Stars Challenge performance

Josh Giddey completes night one of two in terms of All-Star weekend participation.

Oklahoma City Thunder rookie guard Josh Giddey’s night ended prematurely for the Rising Stars Challenge as Team Worthy lost to Team Isiah, 50-49. Giddey finished the game with two points, nine rebounds and six assists.

A very Giddey-esque statline I must say as the guard is averaging 12.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 53 games this season. At the unofficial halfway mark of the season, Giddey has collected four triple-doubles that include a current three-game streak.

While Giddey’s Friday is done for All-Star festivities, he still has Saturday night to look forward to as he will participate in the Taco Bell Skills Challenge.

OKC Thunder news: Josh Giddey named to Skills Challenge

It looks like Josh Giddey is going to have a busy All-Star weekend.

The NBA announced its All-Star Weekend Skills Challenge participants and Oklahoma City Thunder rookie guard Josh Giddey was named as one of the nine participants.

The reigning Rookie of the Month winner is on the Rooks team, along with Cade Cunningham and Scottie Barnes. Giddey will also participate in the Rising Stars Challenge.

Giddey has had a great rookie season as he has averaged 12.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists in 48 games. Giddey leads all rookies in total assists while he is third in total rebounds. The second-youngest player in the league was taken sixth overall in first round of the 2021 NBA Draft.

Thunder uses late-game rally to top Suns 111-107

Oklahoman City went on a 13-0 run in the fourth to pull ahead 105-99 with 25 seconds to play. OKC has won 11 of their last 12 on the road.

Oklahoma City didn’t have to come back from a double-digit deficit this time, but they did need a fourth-quarter rally as the Thunder edged the Suns 111-107 on Friday night.

Down seven late in the fourth, OKC went on a 13-0 run, highlighted by a Dennis Schroder 3-pointer to tie the game at 99 with 2:17 to play.

The Thunder would move ahead on a Chris Paul jumper before capping the run with a pair of Danilo Gallinari free throws with 25 seconds remaining and Oklahoma City up 105-99.

Gallinari was one of three players to score a game-high 27, along with both Devin Booker and Kelly Oubre Jr.

Schroder came off the bench to score 24 while Paul added 20 points as part of a double-double to go along with 10 rebounds.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who was named to the Rising Stars game for the second-straight year on Friday, and Nerlens Noel were also in double-figures for the Thunder.

Including Friday night, Oklahoma City has won seven in a row on the road, improving to 30-20 overall and 15-10 away from Chesapeake Energy Arena.

According to Erik Horne of The Athletic, the Thunder are in the midst of their second-longest road winning streak in the organization’s history.

OKC has won 11 of their last 12 on the road, the lone loss coming to 76ers on Jan. 6.

The Thunder finish the month of January with a record of 12-5. Oklahoma City has a couple of days off to return home and rest before hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers on Feb. 5.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander selected to second-straight Rising Stars game

Gilgeous-Alexander is leading the Thunder in scoring this year at 19.5 points per game and is one of four players from Canada on Team World.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a rising star in the NBA.

And on Friday, the league made it official. Gilgeous-Alexander was named to his second-straight Rising Stars game as part of the NBA’s All-Star Weekend.

Gilgeous-Alexander is leading the Oklahoma City Thunder in scoring this year at 19.5 points per game. He’s also made NBA history several times this season, including an impressive 20-rebound triple-double on Jan. 13 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

It’s the second-straight selection to the Rising Stars game for Gilgeous-Alexander. He made Team World as a rookie last year, scoring 15 points while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out six assists in the U.S.’s 161-144 win.

Gilgeous-Alexander is one of four Canadians selected to the World roster the year.

Joining him are Luka Doncic (Slovenia), Nickeil Alexander-Walker (Canada); Deandre Ayton (Bahamas); RJ Barrett (Canada); Memphis Brandon Clarke (Canada); Rui Hachimura (Japan); Moritz Wagner (Germany); Svi Mykhailiuk (Ukraine); and Josh Okogie (Nigeria).

Miles Bridges (Charlotte); Wendell Carter Jr. (Chicago); Devonte’ Graham (Charlotte); Tyler Herro (Miami); Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis); Ja Morant (Memphis); Kendrick Nunn (Miami); Eric Paschall (Golden State); PJ Washington (Charlotte); Zion Williamson (New Orleans); and Trae Young (Atlanta) were named to the U.S. Team

The rosters are selected by the league’s assistant coaches.

The Rising Stars game will be played on Friday, Feb. 14 and will tip-off at 8 p.m. CT on TNT.
