The Vikings have parted ways with three longtime players this offseason, releasing Adam Thielen and Eric Kendricks in March and then jettisoning Dalvin Cook this month.

All three had a significant impact on the franchise and all three will be best remembered for wearing Purple, even though Thielen is now in Carolina, Kendricks is with the Chargers and Cook is considering his options.

So how many figure to end up in the Vikings’ Ring of Honor? Let’s examine their candidacy. (An announcement is usually made shortly after training camp opens in late July.)

Cowboys’ Jerry Jones: No Ring of Honor additions planned for 2023

From @ToddBrock24f7: Jimmy Johnson remains the most notable omission, but there are several other famed Cowboys still waiting for the team’s ultimate honor.

For the fifth season in a row, the Cowboys Ring of Honor will apparently remain a 22-man club.

Team owner Jerry Jones told reporters on Monday that he has no current plans to add any new members to the club’s most exclusive list, whose names adorn the walls of the very stadium that America’s Team calls home. The announcement was first reported by David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.

That means, most notably, another year of waiting for former head coach Jimmy Johnson. Johnson won two Super Bowls for the organization in his first five years at the pro level and was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.

On his own enshrinement weekend, Johnson had the spotlight stolen by Jones when he was told- on live TV, no less– that he’d finally be immortalized in the Ring of Honor, even after a highly-publicized decades-long feud between the two.

That was nearly two years ago.

At the time, Jones hinted that he wanted to let Johnson’s Hall of Fame accolade stand alone, without the distraction of another big ceremony that same year.

When asked about it again last summer, the owner made it sound like the Cowboys normally throw together a Ring of Honor ceremony “a week or two” ahead of time, even though that has not been the case for the majority of inductees over the past two decades.

Johnson isn’t the only former Cowboys luminary waiting his turn. Defensive standout DeMarcus Ware will go in the Hall of Fame this summer but is not yet a member of the Ring of Honor. This will be tight end Jason Witten’s third season out of the league, even though Emmitt Smith was put in the Ring of Honor just seven months after his retirement. Jones has previously promised that quarterback Tony Romo would be in the Ring of Honor one day; Romo last played in 2016.

Longtime VP of player personnel Gil Brandt was the last man to be placed in the Ring of Honor, in November of 2018.

Chiefs announce Dante Hall will be inducted into team Hall of Fame in 2023

Hall is set to be inducted into the #Chiefs Hall of Fame in 2023, the team announced on Friday

The Kansas City Chiefs announced that prolific wide receiver and kick returner Dante Hall will be inducted into their hall of fame in a tweet on Friday.

Hall, one of Kansas City’s most recognizable figures of their 2000s rosters, was an explosive playmaker during his seven-year tenure with the team between 2000 and 2006. Known for his elite footspeed and short stature, Hall’s elusiveness on the gridiron earned him the nicknames “X-Factor” and “The Human Joystick”.

Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt released a statement on Hall’s selection to the team’s Hall of Fame in the official announcement, highlighting the receiver’s work as an electric kick returner as a key role for his induction.

“My family and I are delighted to announce Dante as this year’s inductee into the Chiefs Hall of Fame,” Hunt said. “It’s not every day you get to witness a generational talent at the returner position, but Chiefs Kingdom was blessed to witness Dante’s talent for seven seasons.

“His quickness, agility and pure athleticism as a returner and wide receiver cemented him as one of the franchise’s greats. Following his playing career, Dante joined the Kansas City Ambassador program and has been an active participant in the brand’s international expansion efforts. We are looking forward to celebrating Dante’s Hall of Fame induction at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium this fall.”

Hall earned an All-Pro selection in Kansas City as a returner in 2003 and was part of many notable teams during the Trent Green era of the early 2000s. He appeared in 97 games for the Chiefs over his seven seasons with the team, amassing over 8,500 return yards and 11 return touchdowns as a member of the team.

The three things certain in life are death, taxes and Twitter going crazy whenever a basketball player beats the buzzer to win a game. [autotag]Olivia Miles[/autotag] did just that against Louisville to give Notre Dame a 78-76 triumph in overtime. In case you missed the shot itself, here it is:

What can you say about Miles that hasn’t been said already? She is very good in every aspect of basketball, and clutch moments like this only add to the legend she’s building for herself in South Bend. The best part is she only is a sophomore, so she has more than enough time to create even more memories. Barring an unforeseen turn of events, she is destined for the Purcell Pavilion Ring of Honor.

Hopefully, this are what you think of when you think of the Irish coach.

[autotag]Mike Brey[/autotag] established his legacy at Notre Dame a long time ago. From being named national coach of the year to making back-to-back Elite Eights to passing [autotag]Digger Phelps[/autotag] as the Irish’s winningest coach, the list of accolades is an impressive one. However, there have been too few positives for the program lately, and even he has started to doubt his effectiveness. We don’t know for sure if that factored into his decision to retire at the end of the season, but that decision has been made either way.

While many Irish fans are happy to see a new voice in charge on the horizon, they shouldn’t forget all the good Brey has brought to South Bend. You don’t achieve everything he did by chance. It takes real coaching ability to hold a job like this for as long as he has. Whatever you think of the job he’s done lately, Notre Dame won’t be the same without him.

Watch the Tampa Bay Buccaneers induct former head coach Bruce Arians into the team’s Ring of Honor

Bruce Arians was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for only three seasons, but that was all he needed to make an indelible mark in franchise history.

Arians holds the highest winning percentage of any Bucs head coach, and helped lead the team to its second Super Bowl victory, the first for any NFL team in their home stadium.

For all his efforts, Arians was inducted into the Bucs’ Ring of Honor during halftime of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, making him the 14th member to receive the team’s highest accolade.

Notre Dame’s experience can’t compete with Marquette’s youth

“Staying old” didn’t work in this matchup.

From the beginning of the season, [autotag]Mike Brey[/autotag] has lauded the experience on Notre Dame’s roster. However, one basic rule of sports is that if a team is young and talented enough, it can be a serious threat to experience. That threat played out Sunday at Purcell Pavilion. In the end, [autotag]John Shumate[/autotag]’s Ring of Honor induction at halftime was the only experience worth celebrating in a 79-64 loss to Marquette.

The story of this game was that the Irish (7-3) were outplayed and outhustled by a younger and hungrier opponent. The Golden Eagles (8-3) turned up the defensive pressure and forced the Irish into ugly shots and poor decision-making, ultimately resulting in 10 Irish turnovers to the Eagles’ three.

Even when they found openings in that defense, the Irish weren’t able to make enough shots regardless of distance. They somehow only trailed by five at halftime, but the Eagles finally made them pay with more offensive power afterwards, and it was their fans rocking Purcell Pavilion before the game even ended.

Kam Jones led all scorers with 25 points. Oso Ighodaro had a double-double of 16 points and 18 rebounds, seven of them coming on the offensive end. which undoubtedly contributed to the Eagles’ 22-7 advantage in second-chance points. Olivie Prosper scored 14, and Tyler Kolek had 11 points to go with a game-high six assists.

Although [autotag]Nate Laszewski[/autotag] and [autotag]JJ Starling[/autotag] scored 20 and 12 points, respectively, they combined to shoot 11 of 27 (40.7%) from the field. No one else on the Irish scored more than eight points. That’s not exactly a recipe for success, and the chances for that success won’t get any easier with Georgia awaiting in Atlanta next week.

Tarik Glenn inducted into Colts’ Ring of Honor

Tarik Glenn officially gets his Blue Jacket.

Former Indianapolis Colts great offensive tackle Tarik Glenn was inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor during halftime of the Week 8 game against the Washington Commanders.

In attendance for the ceremony included plenty of former Colts greats Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Dwight Freeney, Jeff Saturday, Edgerrin James, Robert Mathis, Bill Polian and Bill Brooks.

The No. 19 overall pick in the 1997 NFL draft, Glenn was the model of consistency during his 10-year career with the Colts. In all but one season, he started all 16 games on Indy’s offensive line. His rookie season started with him as the right guard before switching to be the team’s long-time left tackle for the remainder of his career.

The only time Glenn missed games during his career was during the 2003 season when he was forced to miss six games due to a knee injury.

Glenn will be the 18th inductee into the Ring of Honor but only the third offensive lineman. He will join Chris Hinton (2001) and Jeff Saturday (2015) as the only offensive linemen in the team’s Ring of Honor.

The other 17 inductees include owner Robert Irsay (1996), wide receiver Bill Brooks (1998), head coach Ted Marchibroda (2000), offensive lineman Chris Hinton (2001), quarterback Jim Harbaugh (2005), “Colts Nation” (2007), head coach Tony Dungy (2010), wide receiver Marvin Harrison (2011), running back Edgerrin James (2012), running back Eric Dickerson, running back Marshall Faulk (2013), center Jeff Saturday (2015), general manager Bill Polian (2016), quarterback Peyton Manning (2017), wide receiver Reggie Wayne (2018), defensive end Dwight Freeney (2019) and defensive end Robert Mathis (2021).

ROH World Champion Chris Jericho is rocking his Randy Moss jersey

The Ring of Honor World Champion is rocking his Randy Moss jersey live in Miami

The Minnesota Vikings have their fair share of celebrity fans but it doesn’t get much bigger than one of the best professional wrestlers of all time in Chris Jericho.

Now calling himself “The Ocho,” Jericho currently wrestles for All Elite Wrestling owned by Tony Khan, whose dad Shad owns the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also won his eighth world championship recently at AEW’s Grand Slam show in September in defeating Claudio Castagnoli for the championship.

Jericho, who is from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada where Vikings legendary coach Bud Grant got his coaching start, has been a Vikings fan for some time.

He put out a short video before the game from Hard Rock Stadium on the Vikings Facebook account hyping up the Vikings .

Hopefully, Jericho doesn’t put the Vikings on the list for their performance thus far.

Shaun Alexander to be inducted in Seahawks Ring of Honor

Alexander will officially be honored during Seattle’s home game against the Arizona Cardinals on October 16.

The Seattle Seahawks will be taking time to honor another one of their legendary players during the 2022 season. On Thursday it was announced that running back Shaun Alexander would become the newest member inducted to the Seahawks Ring of Honor.

Alexander will officially be honored during Seattle’s home game against the Arizona Cardinals on October 16.

Last season the Seahawks inducted Matt Hasselbeck and Mike Holmgren into the Ring of Honor. It is only fitting for Alexander to join his former quarterback and head coach a year later.

While the Pete Carroll/Legion of Boom era of the Seahawks brought the franchise to the championship mountaintop, it should not be forgotten how formidable the early-2000’s Seahawks were. Behind the legs of Shaun Alexander, the Seahawks won the NFC West four times and made five total trips to the playoffs.

Of course, the crowning achievement during Alexander’s tenure was capturing the League MVP award in 2005 for his sublime season. Alexander rushed for 1,880 yards and set a then-NFL record with 27 rushing touchdowns.

Alexander was only the second running back the Seahawks ever spent a first round draft selection on, and he rewarded the organization handsomely. During his tenure, ranging from 2000-2007, Alexander scored 100 career touchdowns. He joins Steve Largent as the only members of the organization to accomplish such a feat.
