The Cleveland Browns have until Saturday at 4 p.m. ET to trim the active roster down to just 53 players, but they got a jump on the action on Thursday. The Browns announced they have waived four players.

Safety J.T. Hassell, cornerback Donnie Lewis Jr., wide receiver J’Mon Moore and defensive tackle Ricky Walker were all waived by the team. All are subject to waiver claims by other teams. If they go unclaimed, the Browns would be able to bring them back to the practice squad once that is established following the cutdowns.

Hassell is the only one of the cuts with any NFL experience. The safety played in four games for the Browns in 2019, recording seven tackles while appearing almost exclusively on special teams. Lewis was the team’s seventh-round pick in 2019 but has now failed to make the team in two seasons.

Cleveland’s roster now stands at 75 players.

Browns sign DT Ricky Walker

Walker is in his second season out of Virginia Tech

The Cleveland Browns added another player to the defensive line on Saturday. The team signed free agent Ricky Walker to a contract and added Walker to the active roster.

Walker is in his second NFL season out of Virginia Tech. He was undrafted in 2019 but signed shortly thereafter by the Dallas Cowboys. He played through the preseason but did not make Dallas’ final roster. The 6-2, 301-pounder also had a run with the Tampa Bay Vipers in the short-lived XFL.

The Browns had an open roster spot after waiving DE George Obinna during the week. Cleveland’s roster is back at the 80-man camp limit. Walker tried out for the Browns on Wednesday and cleared all COVID-19 protocols in order to be signed on Saturday.

Ricky Walker makes XFL history by being first to be ejected for throwing a punch

Ricky Walker learned you can’t throw a punch in the XFL.

The XFL has a lot of different rules than the NFL but even this new league is against players throwing punches at each other.

Tampa Bay Vipers defensive tackle Ricky Walker learned that on Sunday during his team’s game against the New York Guardians at MetLife Stadium. Walker made some XFL history when he was ejected for throwing a punch at Guardians center Ian Silberman in the final few minutes before halftime.

The Virginia Tech product immediately made his way off the field as the crowd at MetLife let him have it.

Here’s his historic moment that will live on forever in XFL lore:

Yup, can’t do that. Not even in the the XFL, unfortunately.
