Dolphins legend Richmond Webb will announce team’s 2nd round pick

Former Dolphins offensive lineman Richmond Webb says he’s set to announce the team’s No. 55 overall pick on Friday.

Former Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Richmond Webb says he’ll be announcing the team’s second round pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

Webb, 57, was a top 10 pick in the 1990 NFL draft and spent a decade protecting Dan Marino’s blindside in Miami. After playing his final two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, Webb retired with seven Pro Bowls and was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s All-Decade Team of the 1990s.

Despite his accomplishments, Webb has somehow never even been a semifinalist for Hall of Fame enshrinement.

It won’t be Webb’s first time announcing a Miami draft pick. In 2019, Webb and then-Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake took the stage in Nashville, Tenn. to announce the team’s third-round selection of offensive lineman Michael Deiter.

For now, the Dolphins own the No. 55 overall pick in the second round. It’s currently scheduled to be the team’s last selection until No. 158 overall in the fifth round.

Who have the Dolphins used the franchise tag on before?

Here are all nine players the Dolphins have tagged in the past.

The 2024 NFL season is still months away, but the first step in getting there begins on Tuesday, as the window for franchising a player officially opens.

The NFL introduced the franchise and transition tags back in 1993 in their collective bargaining agreement. They allowed teams to retain players on one-year deals who were expected to hit the free-agent market when the league year opened.

This year, the Dolphins have a few candidates, including defensive lineman Christian Wilkins.

What does history tell us about what Miami could do? Let’s take a look at the nine players that the Dolphins have used one of the tags on since 1993.

14 former Dolphins left off list of 2024 Hall of Fame class semifinalists

The Pro Football Hall of Fame trimmed down their list of 173 nominees to 25 semifinalists.

Back in September, the Pro Football Hall of Fame released their list of 173 Modern-Era nominees for the 2024 class, which included 14 players who spent time with the Miami Dolphins.

On that list were Ricky Williams, Antonio Freeman, Irving Fryar, Chad Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Wes Welker, Josh Sitton, Richmond Webb, Brendon Ayanbadejo, Karlos Dansby, Larry Izzo, Joey Porter, Troy Vincent and Matt Turk.

On Tuesday, the Hall of Fame trimmed the nominees down to 25 semifinalists, and unfortunately, none were former Dolphins.

The list of nominees includes Eric Allen, Jared Allen, Willie Anderson, Tiki Barber, Anquan Boldin, Jahri Evans, London Fletcher, Dwight Freeney, Antonio Gates, Eddie Geroge, James Harrison, Rodney Harrison, Devin Hester, Torry Holt, Andre Johnson, Robert Mathis, Julius Peppers, Smith Sr., Fred Taylor, Hines Ward, Ricky Watters, Reggie Wayne, Vince Wilfork, Patrick Willis and Darren Woodson.

15 finalists will be announced at a later date.

Decorated Dolphins offensive linemen onboard the Miami Fan Cruise

Continuing our series of previewing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the Miami Dolphins and First Class Cruises have teamed up for an ultimate fan experience onboard the brand-new MSC Seascape. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the team’s 1972 17-0 perfect season, 35 team legends including many from that championship year will be on board.

We took a look at the skill position players like those in the backfield as well as pass-catchers. When talking about skill-position players like running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends, of course, you need a quarterback to distribute the ball. Yes, Dan Marino will be on the Seascape and mingling with Dolphins fans all week while hitting up the Caribbean and four destinations.

Likely close to Marino, and providing watchful sets of eyes as per their playing day habits, some of the Dolphins’ best offensive linemen in team history will be securing the path for Marino to get to his food and beverages. Among that unit of on and off-shore security will be Hall-of-Famers Larry Little, representing the Perfect 1972 team, as well as tackle Doug Crusan and guard/tackle Al Jenkins.

Marino’s first center, another Hall-of-Famer in Dwight Stephenson will be on the ship as well, and it can be argued that he is the NFL’s best to ever play that position. Stephenson played eight seasons in the league, all with Miami, and was a Pro Bowler for five straight seasons to finish his career. The 1984 season was his first All-Pro year and repeated that feat in his remaining three seasons as well.

Moving into the 1990s, Marino’s jersey was usually extremely clean, and much of that has to do with the protection from perennial Pro Bowl left tackle, Richmond Webb. Webb made seven straight Pro Bowls starting in his rookie year and was named an All-Pro in 1992 and 1994. Webb, very deserving of Hall-of-Fame consideration, has always been a fan favorite and active on Dolphins’ social media channels.

Last but not least, is someone you probably won’t want to mess with, as not only was Ed Newman a four-time Pro Bowler from 1981-1984 as well as 1973 Super Bowl champion, he was elected County Court Judge in Miami, Florida in 1994. And his bailiff is former Dolphins teammate, Tony Nathan, on board as well.

Miami Dolphins fan cruise set to sail in April

A chance to enjoy the Caribbean with a number of former Dolphins.

In the same year that the franchise celebrates the 50th anniversary of their 1972 perfect season, the party extends to sea in a memorable experience waiting for Miami Dolphins fans of all ages.

Not only will the cruise allow you to embark from Miami, but you will also be welcomed on the industry’s newest ship the MSC Seascape! In addition to some amazing amenities, ship features and activities, onboard will be a slew of 1972 Dolphins from the 17-0 “Perfectville” team.

Of course, when you see that word, you know the mayor of that town, Mercury Morris, will be on the cruise. The running back will be joined by his backfield-mate, the great Hall-of-Fame fullback Larry Csonka. Fellow champion Larry Little, another Dolphins Hall of Famer, will be on the Seascape as well.

In addition to the 1972 team, the most prolific Dolphin of them all, Dan Marino, will be there, as well as his top four all-time targets. The Marks Brothers, Clayton and Duper, as well as O.J. McDuffie and Nat Moore will all represent the aqua and orange on board. And, just in case anyone tries to get too, too close to No. 13, Richmond Webb and Dwight Stephenson will be there, so you know he’ll be protected from more than the sun.

If you’re of a certain age, and your Dolphins clock started in the 1990s, you’ll be thrilled to know that players like Louis Oliver, Terry Kirby, Shawn Wooden and Troy Drayton will be joining in the experience.

With the number of exclusive activities scheduled for the Dolphins Fan Cruise guests, on-ship and at certain destinations, you’ll have the opportunity to talk and vacation with heroes from players across the history of the Miami franchise that has seen five Super Bowls and two Lombardi Trophies.

Certainly, a likely pair to document parts of this trip will be Dolphin players turned broadcasters, Jimmy Cefalo and Joe Rose. Both were former receivers for Miami and are now popular media figures in South Florida. Rose is the host of “The Joe Rose Show” on WQAM 560 as well as the color man next to Cefalo, who’s the Dolphins’ play-by-play man on the radio. Bokamper is also part of the Dolphins broadcast team.

The cruise sails April 2-9, and, throughout the week, there will be countless activities, events and competitions with fellow fans and the Dolphins as you sail the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. 7 Dolphins nominated for 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame class

129 nominees were announced on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Pro Football Hall of Fame released their list of 129 Modern-Era nominees.

From there, the list will be cut down to 25 semifinalists in November and then to 15 finalists come January.

The Miami Dolphins had seven former players nominated for the class of 2023. Some donned the aqua and orange for longer than others, but all seven of them had some great careers.
