Golfweek’s Best 2022: Top public and private courses in Rhode Island

The smallest state in the union packs an oversized golf punch, especially when it comes to its private courses.

Rhode Island, the smallest state, packs a pretty oversized punch when it comes to golf courses, especially its lineup of private layouts. Four of the five highest-ranked private courses in the state rank among the top 100 on either Golfweek’s Best Modern or Classic lists of courses in the U.S.

Golfweek’s Best offers many lists of course rankings, with that of top public-access courses in each state among the most popular. All the courses on this list allow public access in some fashion, be it standard daily green fees, through a resort or by staying at an affiliated hotel. If there’s a will, there’s a tee time.

Also popular are the Golfweek’s Best rankings of top private courses in each state, and that list for Rhode Island’s private offerings is likewise included below.

Pitt vs Rhode Island Game Preview

Why Rhode Island Will Win

The Rams have been solid so far in the 2-1 start with a dangerous pass rush, a good downfield passing game, and enough of a ground attack to make Pitt work.

They’ve got the ability to bother the Pitt backfield that’s still trying to get QB Kedon Slovis back and healthy – he missed the Western Michigan game last week – behind an offensive front that’s been disastrous in pass protection.

The Panthers have allowed ten sacks and 21 tackles for loss so far, and it’s just starting to get the running game going.

If Kasim Hill and the URI passing game can get into an early groove, it’ll make the Pitt offense press a whole lot more than it’s going to want to. There will be enough deep shots to matter, but …

Why Pitt Will Win

The Ram offense isn’t working quite as well as it’s going to need to.

The defense is getting the job done with its pass rush and big plays, but Hill – while he’ll connect on the deep ball – struggles with his consistency and accuracy. The Panther defensive front isn’t going to help make things any better.

This hasn’t been the normal high-powered Pitt pass rush, but it’s more than good enough. The offense is great at controlling the clock, it’ll have the ball for close to 35 minutes, and …

What’s Going To Happen

There’s still work to do.

Pitt will get pushed a little bit by a few big plays from the Rhode Island offense, but it won’t be nearly enough to pull this off.

The Panther running game that took over against Western Michigan will control the tempo and the clock, and the defense that finally got a little bit of a breather after dealing with West Virginia and Tennessee will keep it going after a strong Week 3.

Former Vols’ quarterback records three touchdowns in Week 1 win

Former Vols’ quarterback records three touchdowns in Week 1 win.

Former Tennessee quarterback Kasim Hill and Rhode Island defeated Stony Brook, 35-14, Thursday in Week 1.

Hill completed 17-of-32 passing attempts for 236 yards and two touchdowns. He recorded one rushing touchdown in the season-opening contest.

The 6-foot-2, 234-pound Hill transferred to Tennessee from Maryland. He redshirted with the Vols in 2019.

During his time at Tennessee, Hill was an integral member of the Vols’ scout team. He had to sit out the 2019 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Hill started the first 10 games of the 2018 season for Maryland before suffering an ACL injury in his left knee. He appeared in three games, starting two contests, in 2017 as a freshman. Hill’s freshman season ended due to a torn ACL in his right knee.

Below are Hill’s statistics during his career at Rhode Island since 2020 in 15 games.

Former Alabama MBB F Alex Tchikou announces transfer destination

After spending one season with the Crimson Tide, Tchikous has announced where he will continue his collegiate basketball career.

Former Alabama men’s basketball forward Alex Tchikou recently announced his entrance to the NCAA transfer portal. Today, via his Twitter, Tchikou made his decision public. He will be continuing his collegiate basketball career at the University of Rhode Island.

Tchikou, a native of Paris, France, committed to the Crimson Tide as a four-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. He did not see the court much, only appearing in three games, but was likely a part of head coach Nate Oats’ future plans for the program.

The 6’11 forward kept the announcement short. He did not mention Oats or anything relating to the University of Alabama.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama basketball as the offseason continues.
